Just a reminder from March 1933 till 1969 there was only one republican president during all those years and that president Dwight D Eisenhower , by todays right wing standards would be considered a raving socialist. These were Americas golden years that made the US the envy of the civilized world.

It was liberals that steered America and acted quickly to stabilize the economy during the great depression , a time when unemployment in some cities was as high as 80%, a depression economy which liberals inherited from 11 years of preceding republican governments.

It was Roosevelt liberals who ended the right wing draconian prohibition on alcohol. It was liberals who signed into law the Tennessee Act to build dams and produce hydro electricity creating thousands of new jobs. It was liberals that paid farmers to stay on their land, insuring Americas breadbasket. It was liberals created the National Industrial Recovery Act guaranteed that workers would have the right to unionize and bargain collectively for higher wages and better working conditions.

It was under liberals 1935, Congress passed the Social Security Act, which for the first time provided Americans with unemployment, disability and pensions for old age.

It was Roosevelt liberals who created the Works Progress Administration (WPA) to provide jobs for unemployed people, building things like post offices, bridges, schools, highways and parks. The WPA also gave work to artists, writers, theater directors and musicians.

It was liberals who stood by Americas side with good governance during the war years, taking the lead in defeating Nazi Germany , fascist Italy and the Japanese under Tojo. It was liberals who insured American troops would behave with honor.

It was under liberals that America began their great ascent to become the most powerful economy in the world ,that seen the greatest middle class growth in the of man.

It was liberals who created the Peace Corps, whose " The stated mission of the Peace Corps includes providing technical assistance, helping people outside the United States to understand American culture, and helping Americans to understand the cultures of other countries."

It was under liberals that created the " Economic Opportunity Act, which created the Job Corps and the Community Action Program, designed to attack poverty locally." It was under liberals that created the Great Society , which "encompassed movements of urban renewal, modern transportation, clean environment, anti-poverty, healthcare reform, crime control, and educational reform."

It was under liberals that the Voting Rights Act was created. It was under liberals that the Civil Rights bill was enacted. It was under liberals that medicare was created.

It was under liberals that created the American Sace Program to put a man on the moon and bring him home safely.

The history of liberals has been to even the playing field between the rich and the poor, to guarantee a minimum of freedoms and safety nets to protect Americans, all i must add were opposed by every right government of their day.

What we have now are corporatist democrats ,not true liberals, that's why I prefer to use the name liberal. Democrats today are center right politicians, that's why there was such a glaring difference between the likes of Hillary and Bernie Sanders championing what used to be liberal values.

" Neoliberalism is a policy model of social studies and economics that transfers control of economic factors to the private sector from the public sector."
In America these people are called libertarians, examples of these people are Koch Brothers hard right politicals. Many elected republicans refer to themselves as libertarians.

I was a Liberal from my early years in Politics. At 18 I worked on the Robert Kennedy campaign for POTUS in California in '68. Was at the victory speech in Los Angeles when he was assassinated . I did not go to Vietnam. I got a high lottery number in the first draft lottery in 69. I was draft bait prior to that. I did serve my country, after college, with 2 years in the Peace Corps 73 and 74.

I was a young guy during the 60's , I remember the triple assassinations of JFK, his brother Robert and Dr King. I was so proud of my country for giving unconditional refuge to US Vietnam draft dodgers, we had a liberal government all through those war years, run by the father of our current Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

I remember Peace Corps started under Kennedy in 61, i remember thinking what visionary Americas young president was, his army of peace, and how that would hopefully change the world. I have no doubt had he lived America would have left Vietnam by his second term. But dark forces colluded to blow his brains out, perhaps there was to much money at stake. I was 17 years old , i can still remeber that day vividly.
