The Good, The Bad and The Very Very Ramiferously Ugly!

The Good: Flipper and Friends! When Karyn Gitsham and her dog found themselves stuck in an ocean current off the coast of South Australia - they thought all was lost. But not to fear - their cetacean friends were near. A pack of dolphins formed a protective ring around Gitsham and her dog. The dolphins pushed the pair to shore - saving them from drowning or - worse - becoming shark bait. The seas around Australia are home to some of the world's most endangered dolphin species. Fishing nets and pollution have taken their toll on the Snubfin Dolphin population in particular - there are only around 1000 left in the wild. It's certainly encouraging to see our ocean dwelling friends show some mammal solidarity even as we destroy their home. If only we could be so good

David Cobb, Move to Amend, joins Thom Hartmann. All across America - local communities and state governments are full steam ahead when it comes to calling for a constitutional amendment to block the disastrous effects of the Supreme Court's unprecedented Citizen's United decision. Millions of Americans are fed up with the corrupting influence of money in politics - and the corporate takeover of our democracy. But while public sentiment towards Citizens United is reaching new levels - the Supreme Court is poised to deal yet another blow to campaign finance law. Time to tie the Minimum Wage to the cost of living?

Neal Asbury, The Neal Asbury Show, joins Thom Hartmann. Federal minimum wage is only $7.25 an hour, or only $15080 a year for a full-time worker. That's more than $8000 below the federal poverty line for a family of four. The minimum wage for tipped workers currently stands at only $2.13 an hour -- the same as it was over 20 years ago. Two-thirds of American workers in low-wage jobs are employed by large companies with over 100 employees, not small businesses. Of the 50 largest employers of workers in low-wage jobs, more than 90 percent were profitable in 2011. They also paid their top executives an average of $9.4 million in 2011. Three fourths of Americans -- including three fourths of Independents -- support increasing the federal minimum wage to $10 and making it automatically rise with inflation.

The Good, The Bad, and the very, very Mazophilously Ugly...

The Good: Rolling Jubilee. The offshoot of the Occupy Wall St. movement - has raised enough money to pay off over $11 million in crushing personal debt for countless Americans. Although household debt declined in 2012 - it's still totaled at $12.9 Trillion and has exploded since 1980 and the dawn of Reaganomics. Private debt is a dead weight on economic recovery and needs to be fought if we want to restore the prosperity of the middle class. Any amount of help by the folks at Rolling Jubilee is a good start. Working Americans - not banksters - need a bailout and it's encouraging to see Rolling Jubilee tackling this head on. Keep up the good work - Occupy.

Why Obama Pardoning James Bordinaro is Important

Bordinaro's story shows that the Sherman Act is at least still on the radar screen of the Justice Department. And it shows how it's only applied to little guys like Bordinaro, and never to the big boys like ExxonMobil or United or AT&T.

The Good, The Bad, and The Very, Very, Muckibusly Ugly...

The Good! The University of Mississippi Medical Center. A team of doctors at the school made history - when it was announced on Sunday - that for the first time ever they've "effectively cured" a child born with AIDS. The doctors immediately began treatment on the newborn - putting her on a cocktail of drugs at just 30 hours old. And the swift medical action appears to have worked - suggesting that if treated early enough - newborns can be cured of AIDS. Researchers believe this case offers enormous life-saving potential to many AIDS-plagued African nation where many babies are born with the disease. Way to go science.
