Thom Hartmann: Lone Liberal Rumble - The New Republican Healthcare Plan

Daniel Halper, Weekly Standard & Heather Cirmo, Conservative Strategist join Thom Hartmann for the Lone Liberal Rumble. A man desperate to receive medical treatment robs a bank for just a measly buck, so he can see a doctor in jail! Have we finally discovered the Republican healthcare plan? Why do Republicans think new yachts for millionaires is worth 5 million senior citizens going hungry? Some are saying that Huntsman is already a "has been" before his campaign even gets off the ground - but his main problem seems to be that most Americans have no idea who he is. So here we have a guy who can't win - joining a field of candidates that nobody WANTS to win....So who would be a game-changer if they joined the Republican field?

Thom Hartmann: MI Citizens vs. Gov. Snyder Dictatorship!

John Philo, Sugar Law Center for Economic and Social Justice, joins Thom Hartmann. Michigan Governor Rick Snyder's "Financial Managers" will face their first legal test - as the Sugar Law Center for Economic and Social Justice filed suit today arguing his "Financial Managers" law violates the state constitution. Earlier this year - Republican Governor Snyder passed a bill that allows him to take over any city in Michigan that's struggling financially - fire all the local elected officials - and put in place a crony of his own personal choosing - what's called a Financial Manager - to handle the city's finances. That Financial Manager has the power to do pretty much anything - from voidin union contracts - to cutting local government services - to even selling off huge chunks of the city like public parks and power plants to his buddies in private corporations at a fire-sale price. But as the Sugar Law Center says in a press release about the law: "It is a power grab by Lansing politicians ideologically committed to rewarding the private sector at the expense of the common god an attack on the very core of democracy." And now Sugar Law Center is fighting back

Full Show - 6/21/11 The Wal-Mart Case, $1 healthcare and George Orwell-ification of America

Thom Hartmann and Gov. Howard Dean talk about $1 healthcare, the Libyan War just passed 90 days on Sunday...is this officially an illegal war, and why the right wing is saying his netroots talk was anti-white. Later in the show, Thom sits down with Ginger McCall, Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC). In order to stop people from posting videos of live events online that some companies may have exclusive rights to - Apple is working with commercial broadcasters to disable the I-phone's video recorder at such events. This technology could have devastating effects on citizen journalism as more and more people are using their cell phones to record breaking news.

Thom Hartmann: The 10 DAY manhunt for a known terrorist ignored by MSM

Did you hear about the statewide 10 DAY manhunt here for a known terrorist? I'll tell you all about it - and the terrorist who's still on the loose...in tonight's Daily Take!

Thom Hartmann: IPhone video kill switch...the George Orwell-ification of America?

Ginger McCall, Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) joins Thom Hartmann. So much for using your I-phone to record concerts and sporting events. In order to stop people from posting videos of live events online that some companies may have exclusive rights to - Apple is working with commercial broadcasters to disable the I-phone's video recorder at such events. Infrared sensors mounted at these live events will scan the audience for I-phones and then disable the video-recording feature. It's unclear if Apple is doing this so that they can sell more stuff - like licenses to record certain live events - or if Apple just wants to lend a helping hand to record companies in exchange for better deals at the I-Tunes store. One thing is clear though - this technology could have devastating effects on citizen journalism as more and more people are using their cell phones to record breaking news. Keep an eye on this one - it could be the next step toward the George Orwell-ification of America

Thom Hartmann: Second Japan Nuke...more dangerous than Fukushima?

Kevin Kamps, Nuclear Waste Watchdog at Beyond Nuclear joins Thom Hartmann. If Japan didn't have its hands full with one melted down nuclear plant at Fukushima - it certainly does now with another nuclear power plant on the verge of melting down. About 300 miles southwest of Fukushima sits the Monju nuclear reactor - a prototype fast-breeder reactor filled to the brim with plutonium - the deadliest element on the face of the planet. And last year - a 3 ton device of some sort fell into the Monju reactor blocking access to the nuclear fuel rods in the reactor core - and despite several attempts - has yet to be recovered. Another attempt will be made next week to clear the 3 ton object from the reactor - but critics caution that the procedure is extremely dangerous and could trigger an explosion in the nuclear fuel rods. One ominous sign of just how dangerous the situation is - a top manager at the plant just recently committed suicide. Think of the damaged Monju plant as a nuclear bomb just waiting to go off that could take out the city of Kyoto which is just 60 miles from the plant - and has a population of 1.5 million people. And Japan's largest city Tokyo is downwind from the crippled Monju plant. So what does this all mean? And what's the latest with the two nuclear plants that are in danger right here in the United States - in Nebraska?

Thom Hartmann: The Wal-Mart Case - A hit on trial lawyers as it was on women

Jonathan Tasini, commentator & writer on work, labor and the economy joins Thom Hartmann. The Supreme Court ignored the needs of one and a half million women yesterday - ruling in favor of Wal-Mart in a huge class-action discrimination lawsuit. In a 5-4 decision along ideological lines - the Conservative Justices did not rule on whether or not Wal-Mart discriminated against women as the plaintiffs argued - but instead ruled that the women could not bring this type of class action lawsuit against the giant retailer - since every single woman faced different circumstances of discrimination. In other words - the Supreme Court ruled that each of the 1.5 million women that were discriminated against would have to bring their own separate suits in front of the court - each, individually, taking on one of the largest companies in the world all by themselves. But wait...there's more.

Thom Hartmann & Gov. Howard Dean - Dean's so-called anti-white rant & $1 healthcare

Thom Hartmann and Gov. Howard Dean talk about $1 healthcare, the Libyan War just passed 90 days on Sunday...is this officially an illegal war, and why the right wing is saying his netroots talk was anti-white.

Thom Hartmann: Nuclear Power - We almost Lost Nebraska

After the Fukushima nuclear catastrophe in Japan - a lot of people wondered out loud just what the hell the Japanese were doing building nuclear power plants along the coast of an area prone to earthquakes and tsunamis. It's as though they were just asking for this to happen - who could have been so stupid?? Surely - here in the United States we're a lot more careful with where we build OUR nuclear plants right?? Well...no. The Fort Calhoun Nuclear Plant just outside Omaha, Nebraska is completely surrounded by water. But I suppose that's what happens when you build a nuclear plant right in the middle of the flood plain of the Missouri River. Flood waters from the rising Missouri River have settled at a foot and a half ABOVE where the plant sits - and the only thing stopping Fort Calhoun from flooding just like Fukushima flooded is a six-foot high rubber wall surrounding the plant. But that's not the only nuclear power plant in danger. Just down the river in southeast Nebraska - the Cooper Nuclear Plant - is also on the verge of flooding out

Thom Hartmann: Republicans can dish it out at a conference but they can't take it

Tommy Christopher, media correspondent and White House reporter for Mediaite.com joins Thom Hartmann. During their routine "Obama bashing" this weekend... Republicans got their feathers ruffled when the tables were turned on them by their own hired comedian.

Thom Hartmann: Have you ever wondered how to do a citizen's arrest?

Kendall Coffey, Former federal prosecutor will tell us how - just in case of happen to run into Donald Rumsfeld or Dick Cheney at the local bar. Guest will explain the 10 steps to making a citizen's arrest: 1. Evaluate the situation clearly to avoid mistaken identities or facts 2. Determine whether felony or breach of peace is ongoing in citizen's presence 3. Notify suspect of arrest and crime for which arrest is made 4. Detain person being arrested using only the minimal force necessary 5. Avoid deadly force unless in self-defense or if needed to prevent dangerous crime 6. Call local authorities immediately 7. Identify yourself to the police when they arrive 8. Follow through ... show up for court appearances if requested 9. State laws vary and there is liability for wrongful arrest...check your local laws 10. BE CAREFUL: Citizens have more exposure to lawsuit liability than police.

Thom Hartmann: Free Trade - selling off America

Neal Asbury, Conservative Florida Radio Talk Show Host joins Thom Hartmann. The White House Council of Economic Advisers released a report today bragging that foreign investment in the United States incrased 49% last year. As in - more and more foreign business tycoons are buying up American industries and infrastructure.

Thom Hartmann: Should billionaires sitting on their butts collecting dividend checks pay 0 taxes?

David Selig, Conservative Commentator, joins Thom Hartmann. Now that she's running for President - it was only a matter of time before Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann introduced her new tax plan. And like Tim Pawlenty's tax scheme - Bachmann's puts the Bush tax cuts on steroids. In order to pay for even more tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires - Bachmann is raising taxes on working families arguing that EVERYONE in America should be paying their fair share of taxes - even those in total poverty or who are disabled. That is - everyone except billionaires who make their money sitting on their butts by the pool collecting dividend checks. Bachmann thinks these people shouldn't have to pay ANY taxes - so she's proposing eliminating capital gains taxes altogether - which are already only 15% - far lower than what a janitor might pay. Bachmann's plan would free 23000 millionaires and billionaires from having to pay ANY taxes in America - and at the same time she would raise taxes on 250000 low-income people.

Thom Hartmann: Why Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas must be impeached

TJ McCormack, Conservative Commentator/Fox News Contributor joins Thom Hartmann. The New York Times reported last week that Justice Thomas is happily accepting generous favors from right-wing millionaire Harlan Crowe of Trammel Crowe construction fame and fortune. Along with giving millions of dollars to the Republican Party and right-wing hit groups like Swift Boat Veterans for Truth - Harlan Crowe has also lavished Justice Thomas with tens of thousands of dollars in gifts including a $15000 bible that once belonged to Frederick Douglass. Crowe also cut Justice Thomas' wife a half million-dollar check so that she could start her own Tea Party lobbying firm dedicated to repealing Obamacare - a case that her husband will likely decide when the Supreme Court determines the constitutionality of the health reform law in the coming months. So we can now add this misdeed to the laundry list of bad behavior by Justice Thomas - from unethical fundraising - to not disclosing his wife's right-wing income - to obvious conflicts of interest on the bench - all of which are clear violations of the federal code of conduct for judges. The remarkable thing about this story is that what Clarence Thomas is doing on the bench is far worse than what other Justices have been forced to resign for doing. Case in point - Judge Abe Fortas - an Associate Justice on the Supreme Court who was nominated by Lyndon Johnson to be the Chief Justice in 1968. But after it was uncovered that Fortas received ...
