Thom Hartmann with Russ Baker: Bush Superman vs. Osama Lex Luthor

Any good superhero - in order to be seen and known as a superhero - needs an equally powerful super-villain - and George W. Bush REALLY wanted to be Superman - and in the post-9/11 Bin Laden - he saw his perfect Lex Luthor. Bush had big idea - he'd been campaigning on privatizing Social Security since the 70s, when he lost a Congressional election, for example - and to succeed he needed to the full support of the American people - he needed to reinvent himself as a larger than life character - he needed to become a "war-time" President like FDR or Lincoln. Thom Hartmann is joined by Russ Baker - editor of WhoWhatWhy.com - and author of the book FAMILY OF SECRETS: The Bush Dynasty.

Thom Hartmann: Are Republicans in TN on the verge of legalizing Bribery

Legislation is moving along in the state government that will allow corporations to directly contribute to politicians - something that is currently illegal. Corporations CAN funnel money through political action committees - and - thanks to Citizens United last year - they can throw unlimited amounts of cash into electioneering like television and radio ads - but it's always been illegal for corporations to give money DIRECTLY to politicians. Reagan stopped enforcing the Sherman Act in 1982, and George Bush put John Roberts on the Supreme Court. Because of these two guys, we've entered another Gilded Age in America - and with the latest move by Tennessee to legalize the wholesale purchase of our politicians by corporations - look for other states to follow suit just to prove that they can be more favorable to big business. The iron heel of corporate power has descended once again on to the throats of the working class. Unless we wake up an do something about it soon.

Thom Hartmann: FL Public schools - the Wall of Separation is about to Crumble

Take a look at Florida where the Republican-controlled state government is letting corporations suck money out of funding for public schools and divert it to private for-profit religious schools that are making CEOs filthy rich - and can teach our students a radical new curriculum. Basically corporations are giving school vouchers to parents to send their kids to private schools - and the state is then turning around and giving those same corporations dollar-for-dollar tax breaks for every voucher they hand out. It's against the Constitution for public money to go to private religious institutions - but if that money is laundered first through corporations by way of tax breaks - then private religious schools and the politicians they own can skirt the law. And as states lose out on critical tax revenue thanks to these vouchers - they then have to cut back on funding and shut down public schools. So private schools with wealthy CEOs win - religious schools win - corporations with massive tax breaks win - but public schools lose out big time.

Thom Hartmann: Decision 2012: Urgent and UnSaid

Thom Hartmann: If facts don't slap you with reality of climate change - then maybe tornadoes will

There were reports of over 130 tornadoes touching down in just one night - last night - in America. It was the biggest and most deadly monster storm to hit America in nearly 40 years - when more than 300 people were killed back in 1974. And with the death toll still rising - last night's storm could surpass that deadly high-water mark. Also - three nuclear reactors at Browns Ferry nuclear power plant were knocked off power in the storms - luckily the NRC confirmed that backup generators came on properly to just barely avert a Fukushima-like disaster in America. So how much more evidence do climate deniers need to understand that our planet is entering dangerous times as a result of our pollution? The facts can't be denied and here they are.
