Okay, I couldn't really vote on this the way it's stated. As a former call center agent here's my take: Some jobs will leave, some will stay, and some are already coming back. 1. People don't like talking to a foreign voice....we still have a lot of racism and prejudice to get past. 2. There are just as many call agents overseas that are willing to steal your credit card info as there are here. So it's really no safer. 3. Some of the jobs shipping out ....they can have them, like certain banking practices, excuses from insurance companies regarding health care issues, and all the nonsense and dirty dealings I would not want to be part of. 4. If corporations and conservatives have their way, we'll be making such small wages it will be worth it to bring those jobs back. Let us hope that does not come to pass.
And - yes after years of working there, my call ctr job was outsourced, and eventually there was a massive layoff and the call ctr company actually went out of business, but it was a unique learning experience in more ways than I can count.
I work in customer service. The only reason my employeer does not outsource, is they do not want to loose state contracts. The gov.t can make a difference!
Thom & Louise at a "private audience" with His Holiness Pope John Paul II at his summer palace, Castle Gandolfo, Italy
From The Thom Hartmann Reader:
"Right through the worst of the Bush years and into the present, Thom Hartmann has been one of the very few voices constantly willing to tell the truth. Rank him up there with Jon Stewart, Bill Moyers, and Paul Krugman for having the sheer persistent courage of his convictions."
—Bill McKibben, author of Eaarth
From Cracking the Code:
"In Cracking the Code, Thom Hartmann, America’s most popular, informed, and articulate progressive talk show host and political analyst, tells us what makes humans vulnerable to unscrupulous propagandists and what we can do about it. It is essential reading for all Americans who are fed up with right-wing extremists manipulating our minds and politics to promote agendas contrary to our core values and interests."
—David C. Korten, author of The Great Turning: From Empire to Earth Community and When Corporations Rule the World and board chair of YES! magazine
From Screwed:
"I think many of us recognize that for all but the wealthiest, life in America is getting increasingly hard. Screwed explores why, showing how this is no accidental process, but rather the product of conscious political choices, choices we can change with enough courage and commitment. Like all of Thom’s great work, it helps show us the way forward."
—Paul Loeb, author of Soul of a Citizen and The Impossible Will Take a Little While
Republicans and a handful of Blue Dog Democrats ONLY represent those who have power and money. Affluence is the only thing that tickles their ears.
