"Renaissance Thinking About the Issues of Our Day"
If Bain Capital and Blackstone are the hideous beast Hartmann portrays them as, please help me understand a couple of things.
Why has it stayed in business for nearly 30 years? Truly terrible companies fold after a few investment mistakes?
Why are many of the individual investors in Bain and Blackstone union pension funds? For that matter why are there any investors in these horrible companies?
Vegans beware, I am making a point. Mitt wants to get with TED, His HEAD is the same size as PRESIDENT OBAMA. This shot was with a 20 caliber airgun at 130 yards. I aimed 6 feet to the left and 6 feet HIGH. Right between the eyes. Dead Mourning Dove (tastes like LIVER)
So I went to a gun store to renew my FOID card and HAH? For $14,000 I can get a 50 caliber sniper rifle. Tell me $10,000 CASH wouldnt work?
It would be alot easier than the MOURNING DOVE SHOT!
Please, I VOTED FOR OBAMA- I am pointing out- WHO NEEDS A GUN LIKE THAT?
Tom - Somehow my message on VC and PE got deleted so here we go again. You are right about PE firms and how they operate - though PE firms do ask partners to participate in investment funds they manage so its not as clean as you present. More importantly ONLY Angel investors match your description of a good investor risking just their own money. VC firms raise investment funds just like PE firms and also invest their own money in them.
In 2006 (The start of Romney's running for President) Bain Capital (Sounds Familar) went out and financed Clear Channel. Maybe that's why Obama gets bad press and Mitt doesn't get bad press. Now isn't this the first level of Facism?
Re: the ongoing talking point... "...Culture of entitlement."
Or "Entitlement culture."
I've seen it phrased several ways, to be honest.
Is there an "entitlement culture" infecting society? Sure, and I very much doubt it's all that historically unusual. More on that in a moment. Our current "infection" may, or may not, be more widespread than it has been in the past. Kind of hard to assess when you're not living in the shoes of your ancestors. I sure it doesn't just "infect" the poor, the disadvantaged, those seeking to be treated fairly, or anyone who might seek help... and also feel an over bloated sense of "entitlement" at the same time.
I have been hanging out here on the TH blogs for a while. Lately, I have noticed a marked increase of "troll posts" and irrelevant advertisements. Together, they seem to overwhelm the conversation, or at the very least clog up the current topics and thus, in a sense, disable any sane use of the medium.
I am not a conspiracy theorist, but I wonder WTF is going on. I wonder if there is not a "movement" to disrupt what has gone on here, for years, in terms of sane conversation.
It's taken Mother Nature, a.k.a. Planet Earth, tens of millions of years to very, very slowly convert decaying carbon into what we today call fossil fuels. First it buried it deep, subjected it to enormous heat and pressure, creating long-chain hydrocarbon molecules called petroleum, or into simpler chains of methane (natural gas) or just plain coal. Most of this sequestered carbon was locked up deep in the planet's geological vault; a sort of energy Fort Knox of the planet.
