Jane Carter, AFSCME joins Thom Hartmann. More major corporations have announced that they're severing ties with ALEC - the conservative corporate lobbying juggernaut. So - with more and more corporate backers leaving the group - just how much longer can ALEC continue to corrupt our democracy?
John Deans, Greenpeace USA & Mary Sweeters, Greenpeace USA join Thom Hartmann. For tonight's Green Report ..... We go to the Arctic - where some of the world's most pristine ecosystems are under threat from the fossil fuel industry.
Before the IMF and World Bank started aggressively pushing austerity economics - Middle Eastern economies and global economies were in pretty good shape. The governments in that part of the world were pretty socialist - the government was the employer of last resort - and provided a reasonable social safety net. There were high income taxes on the wealthy elite - and protective trade and domestic ownership policies in place that protected jobs and grew economies. But the embrace by these formerly socialist governments over the past decade or so of Reaganomics and Thatchernomics - called "neoliberalism" - have changed all of that. Today - across the Middle East we find ravished economies with soaring inequality and high unemployment - all fuel for terrorist groups. Not only has Reaganomics destroyed America’s economy - it’s destroyed global economies too - AND it’s helping to fuel terrorism. So - isn't time to declare it dead - and encourage economies around the world to adopt Keynesian economic policies that will create more economic opportunities for all?
Tonight’s “Lone Liberal Rumble” discusses Obama’s ISIS speech at the UN, how Boehner’s lawyer is backing out of the Obama lawsuit and the right wing media’s attack of Sunday’s massive climate change march. Thom talks the UN Climate Summit with Mary Sweeters and John Deans of Greenpeace USA and how companies are ditching ALEC over climate change with Labor Economist Jane Carter. In tonight’s “Daily Take” Thom discusses how we need to take the profit motive out of our health care system.
President Obama and our lawmakers in Washington often talk about how important it is to protect our “homeland." But - if they understood the history behind that word - would they still be referring to America as the "homeland?"
Sami Yusuf, The Centre, joins Thom Hartmann. The so-called People's Climate March was the single largest climate-change rally IN HUMAN HISTORY - but the Sunday shows could have cared less. Meet the Press - Face the Nation - State of the Union - Fox News Sunday - all aired a grand total of ZERO segments on the protest. If you're going to be in the DC area this Friday and want to see Sami perform live in concert - head over to www.strathmore.org for tickets!
When Eric Holder eventually steps down as Attorney General, he will leave behind a complicated legacy, some of it tragic, like his decision not to prosecute Wall Street after the financial crisis, and his all-out war on whistleblowers like Edward Snowden.
