In the 2010 election, Barrett and Walker were close, about 1 million votes each.
There were 1 million recall signatures collected (840,000 "valid"), a great start.
Plus people are more informed about ALEC, the John Doe probe is closing in on Walker, the new DNR czar is talking about privitizing public hunting grounds etc. There are even Republican groups formed to tell people NOT to vote for Walker.
And there has been a tremendous mobilization of get out the vote, esp in Milwaukee's poorer districts.
