From The Thom Hartmann Reader:
"In an age rife with media-inspired confusion and political cowardice, we yearn for a decent, caring, deeply human soul whose grasp of the problems confronting us provides a light by which we can make our way through the quagmire of lies, distortions, pandering, and hollow self-puffery that strips the American Dream of its promise. How lucky we are, then, to have access to the wit, wisdom, and willingness of Thom Hartmann, who shares with us here that very light, grown out of his own life experience."
—Mike Farrell, actor, political activist, and author of Just Call Me Mike and Of Mule and Man
From Screwed:
"The powers that be are running roughshod over the powers that OUGHT to be. Hartmann tells us what went wrong — and what you and I can do to help set American right again."
—Jim Hightower, National Radio Commentator, Writer, Public Speaker, and author of the bestselling Thieves in High Places
From Screwed:
"Once again, Thom Hartmann hits the bull’s eye with a much needed exposé of the so-called ‘free market.’ Anyone concerned about the future of our nation needs to read Screwed now."
—Michael Toms, Founding President, New Dimensions World Broadcasting Network and author of A Time For Choices: Deep Dialogues for Deep Democracy

Social Security benefits should be more than double, and the retirement age should be 55,Medicare prescriptions should be free, and should include dental, and vision benefits.
Social Security was once one leg of the "three legged stool", the other legs being Pensions and Savings. Since the Repugs have already destroyed those two legs, Social Security must be strengthened. Thank goodness the 2008 recession devoured 401Ks, aborting the Repug plan to privatize Social Security. The Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 absolutely dedicated pension funds to be used exclusively to pay benefits; but Ray-Gun decided to let companies use those funds as they pleased, so now only federal employees can expect pensions. What this country needs is a Repug hanging from every lamppost.

Again, not a serious poll. But had it been, my answer would have been "no". We should not expand benefits. Instead, we should ensure that current benefits remain intact and fully funded. Since Social Security was originally set up to kick in 10 years after the average life expectancy (then 55 years of age), the start date should be changed to reflect our current average life expectancy (yes, by gender).
