Thom there is no need to worry about Obama being re-elected; the billionaires and big corporations who own him are more than pleased with his performance so far and since Democrats cannot bring themselves to admit the Emperor is wearing no clothes, this right-wing neo-con and fake Democrat will continue to harm workers, the environment and our Democracy for years to come.

So with this attack in Mazar-e-Sharif, we get to have this awkward conversation:

"Hey, don't treat all of us Americans as bad guys just because we have a few crazies. Especially since they're not even serving in the government."

"What do you mean? You've toppled two governments and killed millions of Muslims just because we had a few crazies, who weren't serving in those governments."

"..."

I'd just like to clarify something about USAID. Let them cut the budget. They don't really help that many children - they are the arm of govn't that uses their resources for regime change. Read the book "The Economic Hit Man" by John Perkins. He worked under the auspices of this department and it is a facade for the bad things our government does.

FYI - Thom and the Caller from Georgia are incorrect. Johnny Isakson did not run the sleazy campaign against former Senator Max Clelland. That was one Saxby Chambliss. A sleaze by any other name.

Maude Are you somewhat aware that Reaganomics 1981 deregulation of the Robber barons- Bush 1-2 -Cheney with lots of push from the Goldman Fed team led by Greenspan put us on the path to the 2008 Bush Paulson 2008 global crash 700 billion TARP - 2 long wars waged based on lies -fear tactics & profits- or that W gave huge cuts to Co that sent jobs overseas- that W kept his war debt off budget - then dumped all that toxic crap on a new Pres 2 1/ 4 yrs ago ? Amazing how ill informed - gullible & easily manipulated by GOP & Fox you guys still are, after all we have gone through SAD

Thom,

You do not like using broadcaster's names so I'll just say 2 prominent NBC broadcasters are used in this example. Late last night I clicked on a story about Jeff Immelt explaining why GE got a tax rebate. The clip was introduced by the anchor and then played,

Immelt stated that the reason they did not pay taxes was that one of their divisions lost $34 billion in 2009.

Then a second person summarized and the two broadcasters exchanged pleasantries. I was stunned they did not challenge Immelt's assertion. When I heard his statement, it sounded reasonable but I thought something was wrong. So I checked Google, the division that lost $34B got a $140B bailout from us.

My issue is this, why does most, not all, of the media simply parrot statements without fact checking. They can tell two stories that contradict each other in same segment and not challenge either. I believe that with a few exceptions the media is failing to do their job and/or misleading us.

I am an avid fan of you, Stephanie Miller and Rachel Maddow because you guys at least try to get the facts and usually if you get it wrong you admit it.

People say we are a low information society, I believe the media has a lot to do with that, these anchors make millions but cannot Google their stories. OBW, this is just one example of something that happens every day.

From The Thom Hartmann Reader:
"Thom is a national treasure. Read him, embrace him, learn from him, and follow him as we all work for social change."
Robert Greenwald, political activist and founder and president of Brave New Films
From The Thom Hartmann Reader:
"Right through the worst of the Bush years and into the present, Thom Hartmann has been one of the very few voices constantly willing to tell the truth. Rank him up there with Jon Stewart, Bill Moyers, and Paul Krugman for having the sheer persistent courage of his convictions."
Bill McKibben, author of Eaarth
From The Thom Hartmann Reader:
"With the ever-growing influence of corporate CEOs and their right-wing allies in all aspects of American life, Hartmann’s work is more relevant than ever. Throughout his career, Hartmann has spoken compellingly about the value of people-centered democracy and the challenges that millions of ordinary Americans face today as a result of a dogma dedicated to putting profit above all else. This collection is a rousing call for Americans to work together and put people first again."
Richard Trumka, President, AFL-CIO
