How to Reduce The Budget?? Surely a no-brainer?

(a) Agree a figure, say $400M.

(b) Take it 100% off the defense budget. It would not be noticed. (Don't fire missiles for a hour, or whatever.)

Is "everyone" on Capitol Hill braindead for not discussing this invisible elephant? Are we braindead for not screaming for it?

Let's cut Capitol Hill heath, pension, etc perks whilst we are at it. If "closing down government" means keeping the National Parks etc open and closing down Capitol Hill (without pay) until it is sorted, then I am all for it.

Come on, Thom, beat the drum on this one! PLEASE!!

Do I blame GE for exploiting the tax code to pay no taxes - in fact to give itself a negative 60% tax rate?

Yes.

Because GE has spent millions to lobby congress and pay into (bribe) their campaigns precisely to get favorable tax loopholes to let them mine the public treasury.

From Cracking the Code:
"In Cracking the Code, Thom Hartmann, America’s most popular, informed, and articulate progressive talk show host and political analyst, tells us what makes humans vulnerable to unscrupulous propagandists and what we can do about it. It is essential reading for all Americans who are fed up with right-wing extremists manipulating our minds and politics to promote agendas contrary to our core values and interests."
David C. Korten, author of The Great Turning: From Empire to Earth Community and When Corporations Rule the World and board chair of YES! magazine
From Cracking the Code:
"No one communicates more thoughtfully or effectively on the radio airwaves than Thom Hartmann. He gets inside the arguments and helps people to think them through—to understand how to respond when they’re talking about public issues with coworkers, neighbors, and friends. This book explores some of the key perspectives behind his approach, teaching us not just how to find the facts, but to talk about what they mean in a way that people will hear."
Paul Loeb, author of Soul of a Citizen
From The Thom Hartmann Reader:
"Through compelling personal stories, Hartmann presents a dramatic and deeply disturbing picture of humans as a profoundly troubled species. Hope lies in his inspiring vision of our enormous unrealized potential and his description of the path to its realization."
David Korten, author of Agenda for a New Economy, The Great Turning, and When Corporations Rule the World
