Potassium nitrate, also called "saltpeter" . . . It is the oxidizer in the fire triangle or the explosion tetrahedron for gunpowder.
Due to its availability in military situations, various militaries over the years have used it as a food additive to lower/weaken the sexual libidos in males (traditional soldiers) . . . Something that does not actually happen . . . Potassium nitrate affects vasodilatation and interrupts the ability to form an erection. SO you get a bunch of horny, frustrated dudes with guns instead of an in-focus fighting force.

The biggest reason we know where caves are in North America and Europe is that bat guano is a superior source of saltpeter . . . It is also the reason that the Rock of Gibraltar is a British national treasure as sea gull pooage is high in saltpeter.
Before humans figured out how to manufacture potassium nitrate, they need natural sources to make the death-dealing power of gunpower.
Now ask why Cathedrals all across Europe are built on top of the vaginas of Mother Earth (caves) . . .

Republicans always act as if regulations of business are enacted for no reason. Of course, regulations have always been put in place reactively--in response to something horrible that an under-regulated corporation did.
Meanwhile, Republicans come up with simplistic ideas to "fix" things, such as a flat tax, as if no one had ever thought of that. I'm pretty sure a flat tax was the problem in the story of Robin Hood--poor people couldn't afford to pay the tax because they had to spend all their money on survival.
For every complex problem, there is a simple, easy-to-understand, incorrect answer.
