The Peoples Plea

By Chuck Dunlap

October 2011

It doesn’t feel good to be singing this song

But I have to tell you that something is wrong

We’re not represented in D.C. no more

When they lie to your face just so they can make more

Our leaders have failed us

The time is at hand

To think for ourselves every woman and man

The truth is that we have the voice and the power

To pull them all down from their ivory tower

Stand and let your voice be heard

Stand and let your voice be heard

Stand up speak out this is still our country

Stand and let your voice ring free

Corporations are not people

And greed’s not success

One percent making more

And ninety-nine percent less

We used to make our own products

For good jobs and good pay

Now we’re lucky just to make it

Through just one more day

They stole your retirement

Outsourced your jobs

They got a patent says they own

The corn on your cob

When it’s illegal for a farmer

To save his own seed

We got to stand up right now

To this damn corporate greed

Stand and let your voice be heard

Stand and let your voice be heard

Stand up speak out this is still our country

Stand and let your voice ring free

Now let’s talk religion

How would Jesus feel

When he saw people sick

Or just needing a meal

He made the lame walk

He made the blind see

He fed five thousand people

And he did it for free

He didn’t charge when he helped you

Didn’t ask you to pay

Didn’t donate to people’

Who would give him his way

He didn’t look down his nose

At the people in need

The only time he showed anger

Was over bankers and greed

Stand and let your voice be heard

Stand and let your voice be heard

Stand up speak out this is still our country

Stand and let your voice ring free

I have to say this new info about troops leaving Iraq by the end of the year is good news for sure. But, your changing position of absolving his administration of their inability for 3 years to stand up for the 99% is wrong headed. Maybe I misheard or interpreted what I heard when you spoke of the troop withdrawal.

This is purely get him re-elected crap. Progressives have been calling for this since the bush administration. I voted for Mr. Obama in '08. I thought, despite some questions on his voting record in the senate, that he would be a Roosevelt Democrat and truly shake up the governing landscape. What we got was the third term of George W. Bush. That is still the case. While he didn't want to look back and prosecute anyone in the Bush administration for wrong doings, now you seem to be suggesting that we don't look back at Mr Obama's lack of doing in these last 3 years? I agree,He did get some watered down legislation passed , but not what he could have in critical areas. I'm not even going down the list. You know the list. President Obama does not get a pass for killing Bin Laden and helping to kill Kadafy when we still have millions out of work, unlawful foreclosures, millions homeless, 50 million w/o health care, rendition of prisoners, and Loyd Blankfein conducting business as usual on wall street.

He'll probably get my vote again, without a viable 3rd party alternative, but I'm not sticking my head in a hole.

From Cracking the Code:
"No one communicates more thoughtfully or effectively on the radio airwaves than Thom Hartmann. He gets inside the arguments and helps people to think them through—to understand how to respond when they’re talking about public issues with coworkers, neighbors, and friends. This book explores some of the key perspectives behind his approach, teaching us not just how to find the facts, but to talk about what they mean in a way that people will hear."

From Unequal Protection, 2nd Edition:
"Beneath the success and rise of American enterprise is an untold history that is antithetical to every value Americans hold dear. This is a seminal work, a godsend really, a clear message to every citizen about the need to reform our country, laws, and companies."
Paul Hawken, coauthor of Natural Capitalism and author of The Ecology of Commerce
From The Thom Hartmann Reader:
"In an age rife with media-inspired confusion and political cowardice, we yearn for a decent, caring, deeply human soul whose grasp of the problems confronting us provides a light by which we can make our way through the quagmire of lies, distortions, pandering, and hollow self-puffery that strips the American Dream of its promise. How lucky we are, then, to have access to the wit, wisdom, and willingness of Thom Hartmann, who shares with us here that very light, grown out of his own life experience."
