David Sirota went with the conventional wisdom that tomatoes aren't vegetables at all, and are actually fruits.
Well, in a botanical sense, tomatoes are fruit, but so are nuts, cucumbers, mustard and pine cones, because they are all seeds or seed-bearing parts that eventually fall off the plant.
But in a culinary sense, tomatoes are vegetables. No one would make tomato cobbler or tomato sorbet.

Many years ago either Congress or the Supreme Court ruled the tomato is a vegetable.

Re pizza is a vegetable. I second the lady from the FDA who says there isn't enough tomato sauce/paste on a pizza to classify it as one serving of tomato. Also, the tomato paste/sauce used in a pizzeria is canned which is generally 50% sugar. I would classify a pizza as an artery clogger.

On Pizza as a nutritious food? .....the person that claims that all of Italy "lives on tomato paste and pasta" isn't very aware that the Italians wouldn't be caught dead eating the "crap" that Americans call Italian food. Most of N. Italy doesnot eat pasta with tomato paste. Tomato paste is highly acidic and made from the dredges or the "debris" left over from processing whole tomatoes. It is over cooked to the point that is actually caused severe stomach and digestive irritation. American Italians have bastardized tomatoes by making it into paste and pizza and spaghetti. In Italy they only use the actual tomato to make their tomato dishes and do not use ketchup either. So a whole culture does not live on tomato paste.... The Italians I have lived with in the US only eat the "macaroni's" , and put butter on it not the nasty tomato paste, cause that irritates their stomach less, and they can drink more wine.
Chelsea Clinton is an educated person. While she may not have been educated as a journalist, she undoubtedly can write since she has advanced degrees. I was educated as a studio artist but I believe I can be a writer and journalist. Life experience 's are very important to journalism and an open viewpoint, She had to grow up in the white house and was schooled in D.C. during her elementary/secondary years. Similarily for my self, I could not find a job as a oil painter, instead I was hired as a librarian and a proofreader and since I had these experiences I was only able to get jobs in those areas, not in art studio. Our lives revolve around our life experiences and not just around the field we were educated to perform...we have to create our "employment positions" and I don't think they hired her for her "connections" anymore than they hired the bimbo on Fox News for their journalistic abilities. Rush Limbaugh doesn't even have an education or journalistic credentials and why is he doing what he does with credibility anymore than CHelsea can accommodate an employment position in an area that she is qualified to submit a viewpoint. For that matter does Joe Scarborough have a journalism degree or training? Does that mean they cannot do the work?

roseread, how did you get to be a proofreader? I'd love to have that job, but my lack of official credentials keeps me from getting anywhere near.
As for Chelsea Clinton, one's life can revolve around life experiences, sure, but to do a job right you need training and experience in that job. I can't say she's totally unqualified, but if people with much greater totals of training and experience were passed over for her, then it's wrong. It's like a legacy admission to a university. <cough> George Bush </cough>

Can Sirota possibly be more whiny about this Clinton thing? His premise is all wrong. He assumes that primary news organizations employ *any* journalists! She can't be any worse than what's already out there.

I don't care about Rush Limpballs and his twisted interpretation about Chelsea Clinton getting a job at MSNBC and its relation to OWS. What made me turn the station off was you repeating on about how "Rush was right", seemed to me like you were wetting your shorts over Rushbo on this subject.
Dude, I don't listen to progressive radio to hear the host yammer on about Rush Limbaugh. Rush has inflicted too much damage to too many good people.

Totally agree AlRod! Who cares what limpballs thinks, as soon as Sirota used him as his reference he lost credibilty. What is next, I agree with george bush about ... who cares??!! The OWS movement is NOT about Clinton gettig a job possibly because of who her daddy is, its about crooks stealing tax dollars and not being held accountable. If a news network wants to pay Clinton as a reporter, that's on them. If she doesn't do a good job she'll be down the road.

Go Rose, totally agree about Chelsea Clinton, and again, rush is wrong!! Sirota lost my interest with the "I agree with Limpball." statement, since when does he have credibility on Hartmann's show.

I found Sirota to be obnoxious and rude to callers at times. Just because a caller has a difference of opinion from Sirota doesn't mean he should laugh or talk over the listener. I think he was wrong about Chelsea Clinton. I don't think I'll waist my time next time he subs for Thom.

First, pizza is much more grain and dairy than vegetable. Second, the category of vegetable should probably be divided. It would be like putting "vertebrate" on a menu, rather than fish, fowl, pork or beef; it's not very informative.
