I don't think that Rick Santorum merely misspoke in the moment. This "Africa is a country" error comes up every few years. And no other continent is subject to the same error. I think there's some subconscious ignorance there, even if consciously the person is aware of basic geography.

Concerning today's Ugly, there's a political humor song called "Wouldn't It Be Great If Everybody Had a Gun" by the Arrogant Worms. The best line is "Nobody'd ever get shot, 'cause everybody'd have a gun."
