A rare word is coming out of the Senate today: “compromise.”

With President Obama set to tackle immigration reform on Tuesday, a group of bipartisan Senators came out today with their own compromised deal. The team of four Democrats and four Republicans introduced a plan that will put the more than 11 million undocumented immigrants, currently in the United States, on a path to citizenship. But first, they will have to register with the government, pass background checks, pay back taxes and penalties, and then move to the back of the line for full citizenship status.

The proposal also puts in place new border security measures – and young people – or “DREAMers” who were brought to the country illegally when they were a child, but have gone to school here and kept their nose clean, will be put on a faster track toward citizenship.

This is a good sign that a deal on comprehensive immigration reform can be struck this year. Stay tuned.

Wow!!!You are really out there...It seems that the Only solution to your troubles and fears regarding a "Global Infestation of Humans" is population controll...Nothing short of killing off a half billion people a year. However since there aren't enough natural catastrophies turning out high number casualties to that volume, you will have to take matters into your own hands. How about deeming ALL non-white Americans as terrorist and enact drone strikes against ALL illegal immigrants. As well lets make it not only a anti non-white American issue, but why don't we snuff out all those lazy good-for-nothing welfare babies???No you don't have to get messy...Just deny them anymore government assistance, shut down medicare and medicade all together; no more medical attention, and keep wages low...That should solve your personal population nightmare. It will be a rich white elitist world...Galaxia.
Obviously the Jews get a pass since it would be in poor taste to wipe them out after what they have already suffered.

But in all honesty do you really believe that YOU are so much better...What makes you so privledge, superiour, entitled??? That you were "born" in the USA???Big Woop! Unless you are a Native American Indian, your family tree started somewhere else...Illegal white immigrants stole this land from the North American Indians, and Mexicans.
Oh the irony that in many parts of the U.S. Mexicans out number Whites. Ain't Karma a bitch!?!?

Personally, I am thrilled by the changing demographics in this country. It could mean the Republicans' days are numbered. Through the past several years I've heard rumors that white folks are soon to be a minority here, which suits me just fine, since non-whites are more inclined to vote like I do. Just for my amusement, I'd love to see the stats on black & latino voters who picked Romney & Ryan!

Ken, I apologize if the truth bothers you.

I also would like to apologize to my fifth grade teacher Mr. Blonk, for misbehaving in his class on January 3rd of 1959. I apologize to my mom for giving the dog my sauer kraut. And a great big "I'm sorry!" to America which is blessed with amber waves of grain, because I jaywalked one time about thirty years ago and I know that wasn't a very patriotic thing to do, what with the war going on and all.

I am so sorry that I didn't get to bed on time the other night. I feel such deep regret that I left a roofing stapler on the roof overnight in Grand Prarie, Texas in 1976. To say that I want to express my regret for not being taller, would sure be a misunderstatement if there ever was one. I am consumed with regret that I allowed dust to accumulate on my piano. I lost a few minutes of sleep the other night because I suddenly remembered that I forgot to turn off the compressor in my shop five years ago, and I am sorry if the noise of the compressor cycling on and off disturbed the neighbors; I should probably go over there right now and wake them up and apologize to them. I deeply regret that I never got to meet my two American Idols: Groucho Marx and Yogi Berra.

I am sorry I am just a white man trying to get by in a black man's world. No, wait, that apology doesn't really work very well, does it? I'm sorry that that was not an appropriate apology; I'll try to do better, but I apologize in advance if I do not do better.

I am sorry if all this apologizing bothers you, Ken. Oh man, I am so sorry.

I am sorry to the Vietnamese man I met in the 1970's, who told me that when he was a little boy the American soldiers broke into his house and murdered his entire family in front of him. The grief and rage in his eyes were greater than in anyone I have ever seen in my life. I really am sorry about that, no joke. I think about that man from time to time, and I hope he's ok.

I am sorry that our military has murdered so many hundreds of thousands of innocent people and displaced millions in Iraq. I am truly sorry for that, too, and frankly embarrased to be an American, and I am not sorry that I am determined that it will never happen again.

I am sorry that there are so many people in our military who like killing people and who feel comfortable making up reasons for their murderous disease. I am sorry for the harm they have caused to other countries, to America, and to humanity in general.

I am sorry that war-mongering republicans steal so many elections in America.

But Ken, I am not sorry that you are hanging around on this blog, because if you hang around long enough, some common sense and good-heartedness might just soak into you. Oh, I'm not saying it's going to happen the instant that you read this fine, upstanding, outstanding, highly patriotic email, but I think that in time, it will happen. But that's just me, and as we all know, I could be right.

Dear David Abbott,

This is the dog that always had your back...I hated Sour Kraut, but I loved you.

Sincerly

P.S. Please copy and paste your "Appology Letter" on every future T.H. blog. Though your motivation is humorous your meaning could not be anymore profound and sincere...Reminds me of George Carlin...I miss that guys social commentary...I actually met and had a conversation with him 3 times; A real person and a true humanitarian.

We all need to write a letter of appology. I wonder what Ken Ware would appologize for???What Palindromedary would appologize for???What Aliceinwonderland would appologize for???What Global, Kend, Mark Saules, Myself, etc.

Thanks,
Nacho

The Karma police always get their man, or in this case "race".

You can't have a "sustainable" enviroment - be it social, political, economic, etc - through an obtuse minded agenda that is motivated by whicked superiority ...NO MATTER HOW GOOD THE END RESULTS ARE. The basic laws of physics will not allow it..."For every action their is an equal and opposite reaction".

It would be amusing to see how many "Chicanos", and "House niggers" voted for Romney and Ryan. They are out there...Damn Fools!

MMmNachos, it never occured to me that my dog might not have liked sauer kraut. I owe that dog an apology.

I liked Carlin, too. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to meet him, but glad that you did- sounds like he was as cool in person as he was on stage. I liked his skit about baseball.

I would like to post a copy of my apology letter on every future T.H. blog, but I am afraid that it would start to smell like lutefisk after three days, and I am not quite Lutheran enough to pull that one off. I am so sorry.

In closing, I would just like to apologize to God and everyone.

Quote MMmmNachos:Obviously the Jews get a pass since it would be in poor taste to wipe them out after what they have already suffered.
Granted, the Jewish race has a history of suffering....and now they are making others suffer. Did you know that just as the United States had their shameful era of attempted genetic manipulation, forced birth control of some select populations, medical experimentation on unwitting subjects just like Hitler came to do (the US was actually a model for Hitler's programs), that Israel has just admitted that they were covertly trying to reduce the births of their Ethiopian Jewish population by using Depo Prevara, a long-term injection to prevent pregnancies. These shots were administered to these people who had no idea what the shots were for. And when it was discovered the reason why the births in the Ethiopian Jewish communities were so low...down by 50%..they discovered the Israeli program of covert birth control. And, of course, if you also look at all their other atrocities that they commit against the Palestinians, and others, in their continued expansion...you'd think the Israeli hard-liners were all Nazis. There are many Israelis who very much are appalled at what their leaders and the right wing factions are doing in Israel.

I'm not so sure that we don't have one in the White House. I don't know if you ever saw the move Django Unchained but the character Stephen, played excellently by Samuel L. Jackson, was remarkably similar to the sycophantic actions of the one in the White House sans the cane and fake stooped over posture.

DAnneMarc: I still remember the great film "El Norte" when Enrique and Rosa, brother and sister, struggle to get to the US for a better life than what they had in Guatamala. Once they get here, they realize that they probably made a mistake and just want to go back home...such a sad ending!

In fact, if things keep going the way they have been here in the US, there may be a massive wave of Americans sneaking across the border to the south (like the Berlin Wall that was mostly trying to keep East Germans from escaping into West Germany... the border between the US and Mexico may reverse it's position in future years and keep Americans from defecting to Mexico or Central America). The US is becoming more and more like the old Communist system in Russia. Spying on it's citizens, media owned and controlled by a small power elite constantly spewing propaganda, special renditions, torture, the NDAA, the Pres can murder anyone he wants...at any moment they can confiscate our assets. I suppose they can do that in Mexico too. Maybe American escaping to Mexico would be like Enrique and Rosa escaping to the US.

I remember driving down one street in Guadalajara, past a police station where there was a group of policia on the sidewalk in front of the station. As I was driving past...I noticed one policeman drew his weapon and was pointing down the street in the direction I was going. He wasn't pointing it at me but just down the sidewalk. I realized that what he was doing was just clowning around. Good thing his gun didn't go off!

Very well Jlane, I wanted to address all your questions to be begin with. Some were good. As far as speaking in generalities is concerned, these are commonly known generalities. I don't feel compelled to prove them. If you disagree you are more than welcome to disprove them citing any valid source. Dismissing them as false generalities however, is what is more on par with "Glenn Beck" then what I stated.

Back to your questions. Here they are:

Are any of the 11 million now on ANY government assistance.
Why: If one immigrates to ANY country, poor. rich, you always have to prove you will not be a burden to that host country. You need to be self-supporting. You cannot have any lifelong diseases. You are vetted. Canada will not let a plumber come to their country if there are thousands of unemployed plumbers already looking for work.
Question 2: How can ICE process 11+ million people through the system? It cannot properly process the 1+ million a year that come to this country legally.
Question 3: How to stop fraud. When the 1986 amnesty program happen the estimates were very high that the as much as 60% of the applicants were not qualified to apply. Some had never been to the USA before. The original estimate in the 1980's was 500,000, and the end number was 2.7 million.
Question: 4 Are we going to end up having 11 million grow to 20 or 30 million to process for an amnesty?
Question 5 Why are we letting in over a million immigrants a year when the economy is doing so badly and there are 20 million unemployed and under employed?
Question 6 During the debate on the 1986 amnesty the main question all the experts had was: If we give an amnesty what is to say we won’t be dealing with another massive Illegal immigration problem 20 years down the road, only bigger numbers?
Instead of 500,000 it could be in the millions. So what is going to keep this from happening again in 20 years and we are talking about 40 to 60 million.
Question 7 With every immigrant that move to America they are given the opportunity to apply for permanent visas for immediate family which is around 20 people. So for every one million immigrants there is a possibility of 20 million following in the next 10 to 20 years.

#1 GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE? Yes, there are many immigrants and far more legal citizens on Government assistance who are merely playing the system and using their own children as pawns to get Government handouts. It is a tragedy for everyone evolved including the tax payer. The people gaming the system are also victims because they are crippled by their involvement and unable to pursue any path of recovery. This discussion is for another topic. However, suffice it to say, that this system puts food on the table for the real victims in this scenario--THE INNOCENT CHILDREN. As far as I am concerned, that makes all the other drawbacks tolerable. I can only assume the Federal Government sees the situation the same way.

#2 PROCESSING ALIENS? If incentive is provided the Aliens themselves will help with patients and confirmation that they are processed correctly. We also have something called computers and databases to make that possible.

#3 HOW DO YOU STOP FRAUD? Simple, take away incentives to lie. Make it a simple inexpensive process to become a legal citizen and not a expensive criminal burden.

#4 POPULATION GROWTH FROM IMMIGRANTS TO 30 MILLION? Sure, why not. I would be happy to see it go to 40 BILLION. The more the merrier. I doubt that is possible; but we can only hope. Stack the voting populous Democratic and we'll be a much more Progressive and happy nation.

#5 ALIENS AND UNEMPLOYMENT? Why are we worried about discussing Immigration and unemployment when the major factor for unemployment is UNfair Trade Agreements. Let's not shift the blame for OUR problems to innocent victims so that the true enemy's can run free and profit.

#6 PROBLEMS WITH 1986 AMNESTY? The same answer as the war on drugs. Remove the illegal element permanently. Make Amnesty a permanent fixture in immigration. That is what our country was founded upon to begin with. Give me you poor huddle masses... REMEMBER. Open the borders to everyone.

#7 PROBLEMS WITH INFLUX OF IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBERS? Here you are very paranoid and mistaken. First 20 family members is an exaggerated number. The average number of immediate family members might be more like 10-14. I once heard of a family with 26 kids; but even indiginous natives in the area shook their heads in disbelief at that number. In addition, not EVERY MEXICAN wants to live in the US. You seriously over estimate the appeal of our country. In my first hand experience with one family that came here legally, out of 11 adults, only 7 actually came. Of course they offered to bring the rest, but the rest said no thank you. We will stay in our home. Even though they can legally visit anytime they want, its like pulling teeth to get them up here. They quickly start to feel uncomfortable and want to return to Mexico in less time than 2 weeks. After spending a lot of time myself in Mexico I can see their point of view. I myself am considering retiring down there as a multitude of other Caucasian Americans already have in American communities all across Mexico such as Guadalajara, Alcapulco, Puerta Viarta, Manzanillo, and Can Cun to name but a few. The climate down there rivals Hawaii, and the beaches blow Hawaii away. I love Hawaii. I love Mexico too. So I wouldn't be too concerned with a mass "wave of immigrants" flooding the US. Especially when there is a mass wave of immigrants leaving the US for the sandy beaches south of the border.

DAnneMarc, I appreciate your apology, but it is I who should be apologizing to you! I only hope that Ken Ware doesn't find out that I have apologized to you, because you know him, he'll just get jealous and want me to apologize to him, too. And you know me, I'll probably do it.

Besides, I got the idea for apologizing to Ken after you apologized to him. I'm sorry for that.

Palindromedary, DAnneMarc, AliceInWonderland, and everyone else on Thom's blog, I have to tell you: I would rather hang out with you guys than the most apologetic people in the whole world. You make me proud to be a patriotic American.

So, has anyone heard back from Ken Ware, as to whether he accepts our apologies?

Now, it has come to my attention that the conservatives want to limit the apologies a person can make. Mitch McConnel has introduced legislation to that effect. But what am I supposed to do when someone accuses me of doing more than ten things wrong? Just give him ten apologies? Yeah, right. I'll tell you something: I am an American patriot, and I will apologize as many times as I want to, whenever I feel like it. And if Ken Ware doesn't like it, well, I'm sorry.

In my efforts to fight that legislation, I went to the Library of Congress, and when I apologized to them, they gave me full access to the old archives on one of the sub-basement levels. And early this morning I found what I was hoping to find: a secret amendment to the constitution, that gives Americans the right to apologize. And let's just be real clear about one thing: that amendment doesn't say anything about one little apology, or a back-handed slap of an apology, or 8 apologies evenly-spaced over 74 years. It just says, "Congress shall not infringe on the right of American citizens to apologize."

So I will tell you something: I don't care how terrified the republicans are of apologies, no chicken-hearted republican is going to stop me from exercising my God-given right to apologize. In fact, I think I'll apologize to you right now, just because I can.

I'm sorry.

I just happen to talk the

I just happen to talk the girl that was cutting my hair today, she applied for food stamps, no Social Sucurity number required, no legal residence required, legal or illegal status OK. So the question I have is. #11 Because almost all of the illegal entries are people with little or no skills and little or no education……are we importing a whole low skilled work force of millions of welfare recipients? Which is basically subsidized labor force for employers.

The incentive is the possibility of getting a green card, what do they need. But the point is if we give say 10 million illegals amnesty, judging by the past amnesty – 1986 there will be 60 to 70% fraudulent applications. In that my ex-wife was from Europe and I went through the whole green card process with her, I can tell you first hand EVERY applicant is interviewed by an Immigration Service employee before they can get an approval. It takes a lot of time to go through the process, so when the 11 to 30 million applicants go to get amnesty THEY (ICE) WILL NEVER be able to deal with it.

As far no borders, open borders…….IT ANIN’T EVER GOING TO HAPPEN……NEVER!!!!!! So why talk about it? Why make it part of the debate?

So there will be, according to what happen during the 1986 amnesty, a huge amount of fraud. This is a valid question we, our representatives, should be discussing.

#4 I don’t see crowding, over population, urban sprawl, high real-estate prices, and ultra-low wages, pollution as a happy and progressive nation. I really never met anyone that does.

#5 No, unemployment, wage scales, as Thom has said a 1000 times on his show and every economist on the planet will tell you, SUPPLY and DEMAND influence labor and wages more than anything else. Bring 20 million jobs back to the USA and let in 30 million immigrants into the country that will work those jobs = net loss of 10 million jobs. It is just simple math.

#6 Open borders, it just is NOT going to happen, why waste our time talking about it.

#7 I have been to several 3rd world countries and you are wrong. I have heard of extended families going as high as 600 members. Immediate families can be quite large too. Immediate family is “"an immediate family member is defined as a parent; sibling; child by blood, adoption, or marriage; spouse; grandparent or grandchild" (wiki). When someone immigrates to the USA they can then apply for permanent visas for immediate family members. That could be 12 to 20 right there. Wife, husband (+2), their parents (+4) (=6) their sibling, average family size in catholic countries? In India? You can get to 20. But even if it was only 4 and we let in 20 million through amnesty and legal immigration we are talking about 100 million people. NOT YOU!!!! But DO WE, as a thinking public, want to have that many people coming to this country. DO WE?????

Pew did a poll and found that 33% of Mexicans in Mexico would move to the USA if they had the opportunity . That is about 30 million. Now if 30% of just the countries south of our border, about 210 million (out of 800 mil), altogether 240 million would move to the USA, now even Ray Charles could see how that could not be sustainable. These are conservative numbers.

"jlane" says "Do you guys ever listen to TH? Have you ever heard him talk for 3 hours with his emotional opinions on a subject? Ignoring the facts? Insulting and personal attacks of the opposing side?"

I just love how conservatives dismiss our opinions as "emotional" and "ignoring the facts", while projecting their own negative traits and behaviors onto us. I have listened to Thom for four years now; never have I heard him resort to personal attacks against his opponents. I have heard him run out of patience debating these nitwits... but only very rarely. (After all- Thom might be a friggin' genius with a memory like a steel trap, but he's only human... and like all humans, he has his limits!) Thom's got more facts tucked between his ears than virtually anyone I have ever listened to. His mastery of subjects like history, science, sociology & anthropology, politics, etc. is pretty amazing. That guy has taken the art of research to levels that conservatives can't stake any claim to, much less comprehend. For anyone to dismiss Thom's input as "emotional" or "ignoring the facts" is pretty laughable.

Far as personal attacks are concerned, one need only watch those dittohead pundits flapping their gums on FOX "news" or listen to Limbaugh the big fat blowhard, or read blog entries from people like Mr. Ware, to see where most of the personal attacks are coming from.

No matter how many facts are presented to Global, or to Kend the neo-con kinook (sp?), it has no impact whatsoever, because they keep coming back with the same old sound bytes and lame-ass talking points, defending the "right" of oligarchs to use and abuse us. Telling those guys the facts is like a pouring water through a sieve. I don't even bother debating them anymore because it is a waste of time.

When we present facts to conservatives, they are simply ignored... like for example, the FACTS provided by David Abbot, explaining precisely how & why Mexicans can no longer support themselves in their own country and why they wind up resorting to such desperate measures as immigration. These FACTS were offered in response to Ken Ware's foot-long diatribe against those Evil Mexicans Who Are Stealing Our Jobs And Destroying Our Economy! I guess the FACT that WE destroyed THEIR economy is just too inconvenient for immigrant-hating bigots to wrap their warped little minds around. Mr. Ware's response to the FACTS was to gather his toys and go home. (Silence is golden, isn't it? Tsk-tsk-TSK)

Before closing, I'd just like to say that if "jlane" thinks opinions don't matter, he doesn't have to stick around here either. Like Mr. Ware, he can go bye-bye. Plenty of more worthwhile pursuits to choose from, like watching football or playing video games... whatever mindless activity his little heart desires! - Aliceinwonderland

Jlane, please don't misinterpret my discontinuation of this dialogue as an "emotional" outburst. I am quite calm. You are the one "bursting" with your CAPPS LOCKED attitude.

I'm done speaking to you because I stated my opinion. I have no more to say. My opinion is based on my point of view, sense of justice, common sense, and logical conjecture as to a course of action that would work and be satisfactory to all involved. Please excuse my foresight and unique ability to see beyond my nose. You are perfectly free to disagree with me, of course. However, I'm not going to idly stand by while you brow beat my opinion with a stick. It is what it is! I am finished with this discussion: "IT'S OVER JOHNNY!!" Time to move on like gentlemen. I accept that you disagree. It's no skin off my tooth.

Perhaps we will have an opportunity to lock horns again in the near future. You are a most worthy opponent. I look forward to an opportunity to debate you on a subject that you are truly more familiar with than I. That would be quite a challenge, indeed. Perhaps sometime soon Thom will host the topic of how to properly burn a cross. Or, perhaps a topic about silk versus cotton, which make a better white robe. Or even a do-it-yourself show concerning the fine points about the construction of a still. Maybe how to turn your Garage into a Meth lab? How to divorce your sister? What about a nostalgic retrospective called, 'what ever happened to the Master Race?' I'm sure we can all learn a lot from your sage and extensive experience in these areas. Till we meet again, it was fun! Ta! Ta!

Don't worry about Ken Ware. He's really a great guy. Trust me! Right now he's side tracked with one of life's rare pleasures, becoming a Grand Papa! Let's give him his moment. He'll be back in short order I'm sure. Meantime, Congratulations you old Dog. Bless you and your new bundle of joy. I for one could not be happier. Now maybe you will think twice about comments that could impact that little bundle of joy in it's future. That might help put us all on an even keel in the future. Looking forward to your return, Sir! (I'm saluting!)

Aliceinwonderland

You should read my posts. If you don't read my post you cannot understand what I am saying. If you cannot comprehend what I said in the posts then ask for clarification. It is just that simple. Your whole premise is wrong. No I am not a conservative. You missed every single point I made. Read them and then respond with some facts. Simple.

DAnneMarc Here again you just meander on with insults and distorted views "common sense, and logical conjecture ". WTF.....no borders? Who needs a country? You just keep coming back with baseless nonsense and then try to make believe you are taking the "high road". BullSh*t.
The way it works is one person makes a point and another person with a different opinion comes refute that point with a some factual data. Then the first person responds with facts to counter that. That is how grown up debates work. Now I just need some grownups to come on the blog.

I read your posts. What I do "comprehend" is your attitude. Everybody's premise is wrong, we don't get the "facts"; even Thom doesn't know the "facts"; only YOU know the "facts". You sound like a frustrated demagogue wannabe who thinks he's got a special connection to the "facts" that everyone else lacks. When I want the "facts", I listen to Thom, I read The Nation and read Noam Chomsky. Have a nice day. - Aliceinwonderland

Here again personal attacks and no rebuttals on any of the factual statements I made in previous posts. Which point do you exactly want to challenge? Here again what you say does not sync with any of my post to this blog. It is like you were talking to someone else. Go back and read them and then challenge any point I made. Again try this one:

How big a population do we want, or can manage? 300 million, 500 million, 800 million, 1 BILLION, 2 BILLION? When most of our population growth is from immigration and births to immigrants, we need to look at immigration as a plus or minus to our countries future.
What says you...... or anybody?

Jlane, I've reread you posts several times and find that I owe you an appology. You make several good points and your stats turn out to be more accurate than I thought. Sorry I flew off the handle, but I didn't appreciate you saying my opinion was worthless and open borders was not worth discussing. I wish I had time to elaborate further, but thats all I have time for now. Next time I'll read your posts more carefully.

Jlane, I've had my fill of immigrant bashing. We need to take a closer look at the REASONS behind so much immigration here from south of the border. Any argument ignoring this critical factor is suspect, from my perspective, and of limited value. Predatory crony capitalism is the disease; illegal immigration is only a symptom of that disease. If we don't take serious inventory of the reason and cause of the problem, we'll never find a solution. You are right to blame the oligarchs and Chamber of Commerce for their role in this scenario. That's where we should be directing our outrage. Had our oligarchs not ruined the economies of countries like Mexico, we would not have so many people coming here illegally.

We need to stop blaming the victims. I have nothing more to say on the subject. - Aliceinwonderland

DAnneMarc, Thank you for your honesty. I must be falling short on explaining my positions too because I never meant to say your opinions were worthless. I meant to say that when everyone in this discussion on immigration, I thought we were just posting our opinions and starting to go round and around in circle and not get any further to reaching the truth. So I thought if we bring the discussion back to just the facts we could start moving the conversation/debate forward again. For the record your opinions, in my opinion, are not worthless.

Agreed AliceInWonderland. We are blaming the victims. Jlane however makes a good point with the idea of Supply and Demand. The more workers we have in this country the lower the wages will go. Is that really smart Leadership? Lowering our wages to match Mexico's is not a good idea. Raising Mexican wages to match our own is a good idea.

Not to take sides but I feel that to even address Immigration before repealing free trade is a ridiculous proposal. Sorry AliceInWonderland, I hate to admit when I'm wrong; but I hate being wrong even more. Without ensuring the solvency of our own Labor force, any effort to ease the process of Immigration would be counter intuitive to the cause of Labor on both sides of the border.

My apologizes to everyone. My deepest desperate desire to see the Obama Administration do anything I can get behind has clouded my judgement.

Thank you Jlane, for making peace with DAnneMarc. Having re-examined your entries, I can see that you are not a conservative. What pushed my buttons was all your emphasis on the numbers of people immigrating here without addressing the underlying cause. This is something conservatives do all the time, and it makes me crazy. Diito the dismissal of opinions like Thom's as "emotional". Perhaps I misunderstood where you were coming from. If so, then I owe you an apology as well.

DAnneMarc, you needn't apologize to me. I totally agree that so-called "free" trade is the root of the problem. I feel the same way as you about hating to be wrong; when I'm wrong, I'm eager to come clean just like you. Feels so much better.

Peace, comrades... - Alice I.W.

Thom's Blog Is On the Move

Hello All

Thom's blog in this space and moving to a new home.

Please follow us across to hartmannreport.com - this will be the only place going forward to read Thom's blog posts and articles.

From Unequal Protection, 2nd Edition:
"If you wonder why and when giant corporations got the power to reign supreme over us, here’s the story."
Jim Hightower, national radio commentator and author of Swim Against the Current
From Screwed:
"Hartmann speaks with the straight talking clarity and brilliance of a modern day Tom Paine as he exposes the intentional and systematic destruction of America’s middle class by an alliance of political con artists and outlines a program to restore it. This is Hartmann at his best. Essential reading for those interested in restoring the institution that made America the envy of the world."
David C. Korten, author of The Great Turning and When Corporations Rule the World
From Unequal Protection, 2nd Edition:
"Beneath the success and rise of American enterprise is an untold history that is antithetical to every value Americans hold dear. This is a seminal work, a godsend really, a clear message to every citizen about the need to reform our country, laws, and companies."
Paul Hawken, coauthor of Natural Capitalism and author of The Ecology of Commerce
