hey thom,

undocumented residents get a TIN not EIN, TIN is Taxpayer Identification Number and EIN is Employer Identification Number. so the lady was incorrect in stating that undocumented folks get employer numbers.

When one of your guests said, "government does not create jobs", can't the same thing in the exact same sense be said of Wall Street? Of course, in one case the resulting good, if any, is privately directed and in the other case the goal is to advance the common good. Both processes have their flaws as my wife said after she lost half her savings in the stock market.

From Screwed:
"If we are going to live in a Democracy, we need to have a healthy middle class. Thom Hartmann shows us how the ‘cons’ have wronged this country, and tells us what needs to be done to reclaim what it is to be American."
Eric Utne, Founder, Utne magazine
From The Thom Hartmann Reader:
"Through compelling personal stories, Hartmann presents a dramatic and deeply disturbing picture of humans as a profoundly troubled species. Hope lies in his inspiring vision of our enormous unrealized potential and his description of the path to its realization."
David Korten, author of Agenda for a New Economy, The Great Turning, and When Corporations Rule the World
From The Thom Hartmann Reader:
"Thom Hartmann channels the best of the American Founders with voice and pen. His deep attachment to a democratic civil society is just the medicine America needs."
Tom Hayden, author of The Long Sixties and director, Peace and Justice Resource Center.
