There is a big flaw in the premise of Thom's argument that we won the American Revolution ourselves and therefore we should not involve ourselves in foreign revolutions unless they can win it by themselves. This is based on a false premise and wrong historical information - the French Army and the French Navy fought the British on our behalf, and played the key role in the defeat of the British at Yorktown. The French navy under de Grasse defeated the British navy in the Battle of the Chesapeake, cutting off the British Army in Virginia leading to the defeat at the seige of Yorktown, where Rochambeau and French soldiers were a major part of. In addition to the French, numerous other countries sent troops as irregular volunteers to help fight the Brtitish. Finally Russia and Catherine the Great were a major factor in the defeat of the British by forming the League of Armed Neutrality which defended nuetral shipping during the war.
If this premise is flawed that we didn't win our revolution on our own, then it would be impossible for any revolt to be successful.
