The Ryan proposal involves a top bracket of 25% -- a nonstarter now due to the fact that the regular folks have begun to wake up in large numbers -- as evidenced by the GOPs defeat in WI election this week.
Yes, they picked the government pocket last year (December non-compromise) and now that she's drowning in red ink the Republicans won't even consider life support.
I voted: "With or without a government shutdown, haven't the Republicans already won the debate on our nation's budget?" Yes! Because the corporate media is on their side & no one will talk about the wealthy paying their fair share.
I voted yes not for the reason asserted in the yes answer. Yes, because the truth about what is being taxed and how it's being taxed and whether the taxes are collected or relieved is the real reason to agreeing that yes, the Republicans already won the debate. The truth about taxes is not being discussed by Democrats. Taxes in this country are not for the common good. Taxes are political favors and a means whereby a small group gets wealthier. Taxes are not about fulfilling a Christian ethic (even though everyone proclaims that he/she is Christian), rather taxes are about cheating the common good and getting away with it.
For this reason, Republicans are insane. Only insane people claim to be Christian and then refuse to give up their stingy hearts.
I voted no for myself. The Amerofascists have never won that debate w/me. Everything I own is paid for: homes, cars, motorcycle, loans. I use 1 credit card and pay it off every month. So does my husband. I don't watch much TV so the corporate media doesn't interest me. I recycle and used to do compost heaps. I'm retired now and on disability, but I'm about Thom's age so I grew up paying attention to the counterculture. They had great ideas on eating, recycling and the 'returning to the earth' meme. They emphasized peace and that we are the caretakers/stewards of our planet. I walk that talk and will do so until I die. BTW, I detest Ronald Reagan, voted against him and have never voted for a Repuke-ican--and never will.
Read again "The New Golden Age" by Ravi Batra. These times are the beginning of the change. Expect some social oscillation. They are winning the battle but will lose the war.
Both Republicans and Democrats are playing us. We all see the polls telling them that we the people want the taxes raised on the rich,to leave social security alone and to improve our social programs. Still they continue down this road. Both parties are owned by the big guys. We need to vote in representatives that are not bought. And that may take starting all over again.
I voted NO. It does seem like they are winning, however they are making themselves look so bad that even the staunch Republican I work with is thoroughly disgusted. I think they will only succeed in alienating their own party members.
"The powers that be are running roughshod over the powers that OUGHT to be. Hartmann tells us what went wrong — and what you and I can do to help set American right again."
—Jim Hightower, National Radio Commentator, Writer, Public Speaker, and author of the bestselling Thieves in High Places
From The Thom Hartmann Reader:
"Thom is a national treasure. Read him, embrace him, learn from him, and follow him as we all work for social change."
—Robert Greenwald, political activist and founder and president of Brave New Films
From Screwed:
"Hartmann speaks with the straight talking clarity and brilliance of a modern day Tom Paine as he exposes the intentional and systematic destruction of America’s middle class by an alliance of political con artists and outlines a program to restore it. This is Hartmann at his best. Essential reading for those interested in restoring the institution that made America the envy of the world."
—David C. Korten, author of The Great Turning and When Corporations Rule the World
If the Democrats give 1 dollar more we lose, we cant call it a loss any sooner. We have to strengthen and drive we cant be this ready to give up.

The Tea Partiers and their Corporate Sponsored Republicans are going to get a big BUTTCHEW!
