The "progressives" are status-quo preserving useful regressives, with nuanced approaches. They simply seek to regain old thriving empire privileges, when the end to empires is needed for future human survival to be possible.

It was Boomer "progressives" who turned antiwar demonstrations into GOTV drives for the corporate party Democrat faction's "necessary" and "humanitarian" wars.
It was Boomer "progressives" who persuaded women to support the corporate party's Democrats who won't ever provide them equal rights.
It was Boomer "progressives" who persuaded young people existentially needing a sustainable planet to support the corporate party's Democrats whose answer to climate change is to continue the expansion of the extraction and consumption economy, while establishing a market for pollution swap credits, while the glaciers all melt and the methane release suppressing permafrost becomes impermanent.
The children of Boomers don't have 40 or 50 years of human habitable planet left to waste on reforming the highly evolved more sustainable fascist state that liberals created. Massive systemic change is soon required, or humans won't have a future.
Boomers have done enormous harm to their children, in having raised their children to love and respect My Generation parents who habitually resist the serious systemic changes that their children existentially need.
The systemic changes necessary for human and other most species to survive the existing unsustainable societal systems cannot and will not come from working within the systems that must be ended... with extreme prejudice.

It's more likely that a leopard will change its spots before Obama changes his. He voted like a corporatist when he was in the senate, and he has continued favoring corporations as president. How many disappointments will it take before Obama supporters realize that he is not planning to enact any policies that help the average American? He's great at giving speeches, though.
Obviously Obama will do NOTHING, he is a good image of someone who is good at giving false hope, and the biggest mistake the people could ever make by electing him all because he was black. Well for those who don't know he's a badder bush wearing a mask of false hope. Remember when he won the peace prize? Wars in afghanisthan, Iraq which he promised to end, have actually been much more extended. Along with drone strikes in pakistan, secret war in yemen and airstrikes in Libya. there is just no end to this These along with his administration, consisting of bernanke and geithener are bankrupting the country!!. QE my but! for the rich oligarchs their pockets are overflowing while the poor are now in a double dip recession with wages going down and inflation on top of that!! Obviously he doesn't work for the people, he along with most of the government and fed is as hartman said on a "me" perspective. He will do NOTHING because he can do nothing, he is controlled like almost all the other presidents the US has have. And by the way for those who don't know, The ACTUAL unemployment rate is now about to reach 20 % the US is in HORRIBLE shape. Having all that said, for those who still are optimistic that Obama will actually do something are living in blindness. It has occurred to me recently that if all the middle class become impoverished and can no longer buy anything beyond that which they need to survive, who will buy the goods and services that the Oligarchs depend on to extend their wealth? What then will happen to the economy not only of the U.S. but of the world? They will have all their corporate "profits" and all their wealth, which will start to dwindle due to decreased demand on any goods they manufacture. In the end, they will destroy themselves.

(1) Our so-called leaders are in fact merely good actors playing out the scripts given to them by their bosses.
(2) The bosses control the machinery of both major parties and will only nominate those they control, ergo we never get changes in leadership, only new actors playing from the same scripts.
(3) The so-called "National Debt" consistes of two parts: (a) money in circulation and (b) money hoarded by the rich. Our standard of living is defined only by part (a), the money we receive and spend. The National Debt can be reduced only by reducing (a) and/or (b). Reducing (a) by cutting public services or raising taxes lowers our standard of living, not good - - - right now we need more money in circulation not less. Reducing (b) has little effect on anyone's standard of living but is opposed by the greedy rich as redistribution of wealth. I advocate laws which would force the money hoarders to either put their money in circulation or have it confiscated by the government and put back into circulation. Putting money in circulation means building things - - -employing people - - - restoring the infrastructure. I'm not advocating confiscating income of the wealthy, just make them quit sitting on the money waiting for (or causing) a depression so they can buy up everything.
(4) Bail outs - - giving money to the bankers - - just increases the debt and makes the problem worse - - - they hoard it (b).
(5) A major initiative of the wealthy is to reduce the cost of labor. They solved this problem at the low skilled end by flooding the country with immigrants and outsourcing manufacturing. Now they are trying to solve the high skill end by providing free education to the immigrants, thereby flooding the market with highly skilled workers willing to work for pennies.
(6) Re the theory that the rich need the middle class as a market for their products: The lord of the castle does not need to sell products to the serfs below - - he merely takes the goods and services they produce without paying for them.
President Obama will continue with is job proposal no matter what. As to wheather he will "Go Bold" how do we define bold? The racist republican obstructionism will continue no matter what, which by the way is nothing less than a blatent display of institutional racism at its highest level. Neither Boiner nor Canter had the confidence nor the intelligence to run for president, neither thought Obama would win and now that he is the US president, both Boiner and Canter are allowing their personal insecurity, incompetance and feelings of inadequacies to stand in the way of national progress, and destroy this country. The republicans, the Tea paryt, and their supporters are simply demonstrating openly and politically their deep seated resentment of a BLACK man governing our country. They made it clear that they wanted to jamm him (President Obama) up on the health care bill even before the proposal was presented, they gave George Bush credit for bringing Ben Laden to his demise when in fact he had nothing to do with it. If America doesn't wake up and re-elect President Obama in 2012, this country will be doomed. President Carter boldly stated it correctly...."IT IS RACISM".
I expect Obama to continue doing as he has for the last year or more. He will continue to support the bankers and fold faster than an accordion when the real backbone is required. At the current time he's doing his best to make sure that none of the bankers face any criminal penalties for what they have done. He is pushing a solution which will only require them to pay fines which will be peanuts compared to what they have effectively stolen. He is doing much worse than Reagan did with the savings and loan debacle. Two years after Reagan deregulated the savings and loans and they collapsed he re-regulated them and over 1000 of the crooks wound up in prison. So how many of his buddies in Goldman Sachs will ever hear that steel door shut behind them?
Most assuredly the Republicans will try to defeat any job creating proposals that does not mean that the proposals both big and small should not be made and fought for. The bigger and harder the fight the better. If nothing else this will show that Obama has some spine and as the economy continues to crumble the Republicans fighting every job proposal will show where the problem lies.
There is no need for a stong American middle class in the minds of the Jobsters/Banksters/Hucksters/ and all of the owners of conglomorate companies.
There is an entire world out there (China for example) growing a middle class to buy stuff.
I love Obama: He had me at hello. BUT I am getting sick of him not standing up for the progressive causes. He is going to be called an 'unremittant socialist (Hannity) and worse (the rest of them) so he might as well at least be true to himself.
