My husband and I have driven to Occupy Detroit for the third time today and I talked to one of the coordiinators there and it sure sounds to me like they are taking cues from the whole movement in order to "do the right thing". Working on making sure there are no issues with their kitchen, and he told me they have access to a building 5 Miles up Woodward Ave. to store food and the possibilty they will have a refrigerated cooler. They are using a local night club near the park for bathroom facilities and even allowing them to sleep in warm quarters at night. That part came out of the Free Press. We are in our elder years at 67 and 72 and they all treat me so nice when I go down there. We have ended up down there to bring a few donations after appointments we had, and I told the coordinator if they find some things say on Craig's list like printers or copiers he can give us a call and we would be able to pick it up for them. THey are well organized and they are having no problem with the police in Detroit. The last two times we were down there, there were two police cars parked on opposite sides of the site and we had no problem pulling off to drop our stuff off and move on. I hope it will continue this way, and feel certain it will here in Detroit.

You sound like a couple of people I'd like to know. I'm 70 and I live in Arkansas having moved from the Denver area in 2004. I'm in a gated community here, largest in the U.S. and it's nice with lot's of older people from all 50 states. I do volunteer work through AARP with Tax-Aide and the driver safety program. You're the sort of people I'd like to see here, unless you have family in the Detroit area. Keep up the good work. I am not close to a major Occupy, but I'm doing my part by infiltrating the Democratic party as a committeeman. Hoping I can help make a difference.
"If you wonder why and when giant corporations got the power to reign supreme over us, here’s the story."
—Jim Hightower, national radio commentator and author of Swim Against the Current
From Cracking the Code:
"No one communicates more thoughtfully or effectively on the radio airwaves than Thom Hartmann. He gets inside the arguments and helps people to think them through—to understand how to respond when they’re talking about public issues with coworkers, neighbors, and friends. This book explores some of the key perspectives behind his approach, teaching us not just how to find the facts, but to talk about what they mean in a way that people will hear."
—Paul Loeb, author of Soul of a Citizen
From The Thom Hartmann Reader:
"Thom Hartmann is a creative thinker and committed small-d democrat. He has dealt with a wide range of topics throughout his life, and this book provides an excellent cross section. The Thom Hartmann Reader will make people both angry and motivated to act."
—Dean Baker, economist and author of Plunder and Blunder, False Profits, and Taking Economics Seriously
