credit card rates

daleh007's picture

I remember, years ago, when bank credit cards appeared. Rates were much lower and the more you charged the lower the interest rate became. Also, as I grew up as a boy the local bank I saved at paid 5.25% interest the whole time I can remember. The other day I went to the bank to check on rates paid on CD's, I was shocked. The rate is "0.6%, that's with a decimal point 0.6 percent. It's no wonder American's have no interest in trying to save any money at a bank.

My proposal: Tie the interest rates charged on credit cards to the rates paid on passbook saving accounts.

Is personal privacy less important than corporate profits?

A topic seldom discussed is the ongoing push by Big Content, the RIAA and MPAA, to circumvent due process and personal privacy.  And Obama appears to be letting them...

Tax History: Four Things You Should Know About the Boston Tea Party

phastphil's picture

The folowing article by Joseph J. Thorndike can be found over at taxanalaysts.com.

Almost everyone knows a little about the Boston Tea Party. Most of us learned in grade school about Samuel Adams, his band of phony Indians, and the tea dumped in Boston Harbor. We might even know something -- or think we do -- about the meaning of the event. It was all about taxes, right?

Indeed it was. But not the way you might think.

Tea Party goes gaga for King
By Joseph Morton
WORLD-HERALD BUREAU

WASHINGTON — Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, was introduced to the flag- and sign-waving crowd here Thursday as the group's “tea partier on the inside,” a congressman who is “tea party tested and tea party approved.”

An outspoken conservative House member from western Iowa, King spoke at a Tea Party rally near the White House on themes guaranteed to go over well with his audience — eliminating federal income taxes and repealing the health care legislation that President Obama just signed into law.

My Sign for the Teabagger Rallies (Thom, Professor, I hope you'll read this one...)

karkus's picture

I really wanted to call in today when I was listening to everyone tell Thom what they would have on their sign at the Teabagger Rallies. But, since I live in Colorado and we are listening to the taped program, it isn't possible.

Anyway, this is for Thom, because I had hoped this would crack him up as it cracked me up on the drive home listening to everyone's sign message: my sign would read, "Nailin' Palin, In My Dreams"

No, I don't have a thing for her. I can't stand her. Tina Fey on the other hand...

How about the UPSIDE of Citizens United?

Dave F's picture

My progressive buddies are missing an opportunity by criticizing the Citizens United decision.

After all, if corporations are now persons, we only have to define what kinds of citizens they are.  How about "Zombie-Americans"?  After all, they ARE dead, shuffle around, and eat people's brains.

Tea Party callers

p1arc's picture

The callers to your show that claim they are not with any party or group, do they think people are stupid? They are teaparty paid and I am sure they get so much per call and they tie up the phone lines with their BS. I loved your history lesson on what the tea party was really about it was great!! I hear the tea party say they are against all the big spending of President Obama.... WHERE were they with George Bush spent and spent and spent, he put us here not President Obama. Your show is great and you are one of the truth tellers. Keep up the good work.

My Comment to The TIMES Article, "Poll Finds Tea Party Backers Wealthier and More Educated"

cloud369's picture

This a comment I made to the New York Times about a recent Poll stating that supprters of the tea party movment are more educated.

"A New York Times/CBS News poll of backers of the emerging Tea party movement shows that its supporters are more affluent and better educated than the general public."

America: The Exploitation Nation

To tell the truth, I have always had mixed feelings about the nation to which I was born. The following essay explains why this is so. Remember, a nation unexamined is not worth living in.
