If "state" can't mean the nation (like it does in the phrase "enemy of the state"), then people in DC, PR, VI, MP, GU, & AS can't qualify for ObamaCare subsidies no matter what.

I missed most of what Ian Millhiser said. I'm sure he's insightful, but I keep getting distracted by his pronunciation of "law" as /lawl/, like when Michele Bachmann says "Unined States". Maybe it's just a velar /l/, and not a plain dental /l/, but it's very noticeable. If it were part of a whole accent, maybe I could ignore it.

The reason the .558mm armor-piercing (AP) bullet issue came up is that AP bullets aren't allowed in pistols. Originally, these bullets worked only in rifles, but a few years ago, someone started making pistols that can fit them, thus requiring a review by the ATF. So the gun industry has gotten itself into this situation where a product might be shifted into a banned category.

From The Thom Hartmann Reader:
"Right through the worst of the Bush years and into the present, Thom Hartmann has been one of the very few voices constantly willing to tell the truth. Rank him up there with Jon Stewart, Bill Moyers, and Paul Krugman for having the sheer persistent courage of his convictions."
Bill McKibben, author of Eaarth
From The Thom Hartmann Reader:
"Thom Hartmann is a literary descendent of Ben Franklin and Tom Paine. His unflinching observations and deep passion inspire us to explore contemporary culture, politics, and economics; challenge us to face the facts of the societies we are creating; and empower us to demand a better world for our children and grandchildren."
John Perkins, author of the New York Times bestselling book Confessions of an Economic Hit Man
From The Thom Hartmann Reader:
"Thom Hartmann is a creative thinker and committed small-d democrat. He has dealt with a wide range of topics throughout his life, and this book provides an excellent cross section. The Thom Hartmann Reader will make people both angry and motivated to act."
