The refusal of Superfund designation mystifies me. It's pure short-sightedness.

If I were a land investor, I'd think that it might be a good idea to buy land soon after the designation so I can get it cheap, and since the designation means that the place will be cleaned up, the value of the land will go up.

When it comes to tourism, what tourist is going to know that a neighboring area is a Superfund site? Even if they do, the knowledge that the site is being cleaned up would make them check back every couple years, on a place that they otherwise want to visit.

Is Elizabeth Warren even allowed to endorse primary candidates? As a precinct committee member, I just received an e-mail form the state party reminding us (that is, party officers) not to play favorites or endorse anyone during the primary stage. Maybe things are different at the presidential level.

"No one communicates more thoughtfully or effectively on the radio airwaves than Thom Hartmann. He gets inside the arguments and helps people to think them through—to understand how to respond when they’re talking about public issues with coworkers, neighbors, and friends. This book explores some of the key perspectives behind his approach, teaching us not just how to find the facts, but to talk about what they mean in a way that people will hear."
