I have to ask Joe Biden, for the past 8 years, how well has reaching over the isle worked out? The issue with Republicans is not the lack of isle reaching, it is the contract they made to actually obstruct the President. I do not think they will cave to anyone, regardless of which Democrat it is.

Tom DeLay was never Speaker of the House. It went straight from Gingrich to Hastert. DeLay was the Republican whip at the time of the 2000 election, under majority leader Dick Armey.

(Science News Item) The lazy ant stuff is an example of the principle of system resilience. The extra ants form a reserve which can respond to catastrophes that might threaten the nest. When they sit around they consume minimal energy. Our human "mean and lean" systems are much more brittle and subject to failure under much less stress. (Of course, the bosses can make more money until system failure after which they can walk away from the debris with their loot.) Let's hear it for more intelligent systems design!

From The Thom Hartmann Reader:
"With the ever-growing influence of corporate CEOs and their right-wing allies in all aspects of American life, Hartmann’s work is more relevant than ever. Throughout his career, Hartmann has spoken compellingly about the value of people-centered democracy and the challenges that millions of ordinary Americans face today as a result of a dogma dedicated to putting profit above all else. This collection is a rousing call for Americans to work together and put people first again."
Richard Trumka, President, AFL-CIO
From Screwed:
"Thom Hartmann’s book explains in simple language and with concrete research the details of the Neo-con’s war against the American middle class. It proves what many have intuited and serves to remind us that without a healthy, employed, and vital middle class, America is no more than the richest Third World country on the planet."
Peter Coyote, Actor and author of Sleeping Where I Fall
From The Thom Hartmann Reader:
"Right through the worst of the Bush years and into the present, Thom Hartmann has been one of the very few voices constantly willing to tell the truth. Rank him up there with Jon Stewart, Bill Moyers, and Paul Krugman for having the sheer persistent courage of his convictions."
Bill McKibben, author of Eaarth
