Declassify the Intelligence Now

Thom plus logo The entire crisis in the Middle East that seems to be resolving itself right now started when Donald Trump ordered the assassination of the number three official in the Iranian government. He has no legal authority to do that, under the Constitution and under US law, unless he can prove that he did so to stop a far more destructive and imminent attack against Americans or American interests. It's why initially Mike Pompeo said that we attacked General Soleimani because of an eminent attack.

But now, it turns out, a few members of Congress have seen the intelligence and are calling for it to be completely declassified. Representative Seth Moulton this morning on CNN said Americans deserve to see what was - and what was not - in the intelligence that Trump used.

It sounds like Trump had no justification whatsoever, but did this attack on Soleimani to derail discussion about impeachment. If that's the case, it should be an entirely new article of impeachment itself. if Trump took the world to the edge of war just to help himself avoid impeachment, there must be rapid and immediate consequences.

Declassify the intelligence!

Thom, did you complain as much when President Obama took out the Lybian leader Kadaffi? What about Bin Laden?

Obama was right, Trump is right. If it gets him re-elected you have only to blame the far left democrats. The democratic party is committing suicide by mouth.

Stop supporting the enemy. A simple google search will point out what a savage killer this guy was and has been for decades. He needed to be eliminated. President Trump did a magnificent job in his handling of Irans continued killing and pushing the buttons of so many in the free world.

As for releasing government intelligence, that is none of the general public's business much less, agitators on right and left wing radio stations.

Whether or not there was any actual imminent threat for this assassination, it's the WAY in which this was done. It immediately gave Iran the upper hand. It was done with any lack of strategy, foresight, or planning. Typical Trump myopic vision.

From The Thom Hartmann Reader:
"Thom Hartmann is a literary descendent of Ben Franklin and Tom Paine. His unflinching observations and deep passion inspire us to explore contemporary culture, politics, and economics; challenge us to face the facts of the societies we are creating; and empower us to demand a better world for our children and grandchildren."
John Perkins, author of the New York Times bestselling book Confessions of an Economic Hit Man
From Screwed:
"Hartmann speaks with the straight talking clarity and brilliance of a modern day Tom Paine as he exposes the intentional and systematic destruction of America’s middle class by an alliance of political con artists and outlines a program to restore it. This is Hartmann at his best. Essential reading for those interested in restoring the institution that made America the envy of the world."
