Jeb Bush Isn't A Moderate, He's An Extremist Neocon

There's no shortage of Republican candidates rehashing the same tired ideas - but only one is running on his family's name and track record - even though he's trying very hard to make the American people forget it. But can Jeb Bush really pull of his "I'm a moderate” routine.

Unexplained Explosion at the Nuclear Power Plant Near NYC

Kevin Kamps, Beyond Nuclear joins Thom. Parts of the Indian Point Power Planet in Buchanan - New York were shut down again today the wake of a weekend fire at one of its transformers. While there is no threat of meltdown - the blaze did cause an estimated 15,000 gallons of oil to leak from the plant into Hudson River. Cleanup is expected to take a few days - but New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has said that it's unlikely that this incident will cause any long term damage to the Hudson ecosystem. For Indian Point - though - this was just another incident in a long list of accidents - mishaps - and near misses.

The Legacy of Agent Orange Continues...

Susan Schnall, Vietnam Agent Orange Relief & Responsibility Campaign joins Thom. This year - the United States is commemorating the 50th anniversary of the start of the Vietnam War. And while that war ended more than four decades ago - it's legacy still lives on in the daily lives of millions of people both here in America and in Vietnam. For many - that legacy is one of pain - disease - and death. Between 1961 and 1971 - the U.S. Air Force sprayed more than 20 million gallons of a toxic chemical known as Agent Orange on forests throughout Vietnam. The idea was to wipe out any area that the Viet Cong could use as cover - but because the military used Agent Orange so indiscriminately - millions of civilians and American soldiers were contaminated - leading to - among other things - birth defects - cancer - and a host of environmental problems. To this day - the American government refuses to recognize what Agent Orange did to Vietnamese civilians - and doesn't send any aid to affected areas or people.

Our Whistleblower Protections Don’t Go Far Enough

Norman Solomon, RootsAction/War Made Easy joins Thom. Another whistleblower was sentenced earlier today. Our whistleblower protections don’t go far enough and something needs to be done. The case of Jeffrey Sterling shows exactly why we need greater whistleblower protections. Unlike in the case of David Petraeus - no identities of operatives were revealed and Jeffrey Sterling never lied to the FBI. Yet he still faced 24 years in jail for his revelations - evidence that the prosecution was trying to make an example of Jeffrey Sterling.

Full Show 5/11/15: CIA Whistleblower gets 3.5 years in prison for talking to the Press

Tonight Thom talks with Journalist and Media Critic, Norman Solomon, about the 3.5 year sentencing of former CIA officer, Jeffrey Sterling, for leaking information to the press. Also tonight, Thom discusses prison reform and how the current system cheats out America’s poorest. Plus Thom looks into the growing number of Americans losing their religion and why it’s happening. And more than 40 years since the end of the Vietnam war, agent orange continues to affect Southeast Asian and Americans contaminated with the chemical.
