Despite these attempts to suppress the vote from the right - there has been plenty of good news for voting rights advocates - with a federal court decision restoring voting rights to Wisconsin voters who were disenfranchised by that state's voter id law - and the Fifth Circuit Appeals Court striking down a similar ID law in Texas. Last week - another federal appeals court struck down several major provisions of North Carolina's voter suppression laws writing that "In essence, … the State took away [minority voters'] opportunity because [they] were about to exercise it. ... This bears the mark of intentional discrimination. Isn’t all of this proof of why we need Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act re-instated? How can we fight back over the next 99 days to make sure that voter suppression doesn't tip elections in favor of the Republicans.
