Zachary Roth, author-The Great Suppression, Voting Rights, Corporate Cash, and the Conservative Assault on Democracy/MSNBC, joins Thom. We on the left have become accustomed to thinking of the Republican war on democracy as something that just involves voter suppression. But as your book points out, it’s actually much bigger than that.

Great Minds P1: Zachary Roth - When did the Republican war on democracy begin?

Zachary Roth, author-The Great Suppression, Voting Rights, Corporate Cash, and the Conservative Assault on Democracy/MSNBC, joins Thom. We on the left have become accustomed to thinking of the Republican war on democracy as something that just involves voter suppression. But as your book points out, it’s actually much bigger than that.

Rumble: Was Trump Being Sarcastic About US Citizens Being Sent to Guantanamo?

Hughey Newsome, BOLD.global/Move-On-Up & Chuck Rocha, Solidarity Strategies & Gianno Caldwell, Caldwell Strategic Consulting, joins Thom. After Trump and his surrogates spent a day doubling down on his claim that Obama literally founded ISIL - he tweeted this morning that he was just being sarcastic. But was he being sarcastic when he said that US citizens should be sent to Guantanamo?

Hughey Newsome, BOLD.global/Move-On-Up & Chuck Rocha, Solidarity Strategies & Gianno Caldwell, Caldwell Strategic Consulting, joins Thom. Can anyone want to defend the unscientific and racist classification of marijuana as a schedule 1 drug?

Dr. Mark Weisbrot, Center for Economic and Policy Research (C.E.P.R.)/Just Foreign Policy/FAILED: What the "Experts" Got Wrong about the Global Economy, joins Thom. Hillary Clinton said again today that she'll oppose the TPP trade deal if elected president. But can we actually believe her? Chauncey DeVega, Salon/The Chauncey DeVega Show, joins Thom. The Justice Department's report on the Baltimore police department has revealed a shocking system of racist policing in one of America's oldest cities. How common is this kind of abuse & how can this be solved?

I'm Sick of The So-Called “News"

If you're feeling starved for news after watching MSNBC or CNN - or your local radio or TV station - you're not alone. I'll tell you why it's more important than ever to break down media monopolies and hold our broadcasters to account.

Why Is the DEA Promoting Reefer Madness?

Sam Sacks, The District Sentinel, joins Thom. Marijuana legalization will be on the ballot in at least six states in November. Recreational marijuana is on the ballot in California - Maine - and Nevada --- and Arkansas and Florida both have initiatives that would legalize medical marijuana. If medical marijuana passes in both states - it will mean that 27 states and Washington DC have legalized marijuana for medical use. And yet - earlier today the DEA declared that it would not be re-scheduling marijuana and that it still considers pot a "highly addictive" drug that has no medicinal value - on par with heroin - LSD and MDMA. So why is the DEA still promoting "reefer madness" era talking points about pot?

Full Show 8/11/16: Koch Brothers Say No to Trump

Thom discusses how the Koch Brothers will not give Donald Trump any of their billions with attorney and author Mike Papantonio, what Hillary’s detailed economics speech will really mean for Americans with the Center for Economic and Policy Research’s Mark Weisbrot, and how the federal government will not reclassify marijuana out of the Schedule I (heroin) class with The District Sentinel’s Sam Sacks. Rumble: GOP- The John Wilkes Booth Party

Charles Sauer, The Market Institute & Alex Lawson, Social Security Works &Jason Russell, Washington Examiner joins Thom. Earlier today - CNN reported that the Secret Service did in fact peak with the Trump campaign about his remarks. Before those conversations were confirmed - one former Secret Service official told TIME that "this guy is coming pretty close to the edge here. If this was some guy off the street and they made that statement, you'd go out and interview them. He's not gonna act on this. But you don't know what you're encouraging other people to do." And that's the problem - there's no way to know who might be incited to act based on Trump's word. The RNC is still backing Trump - so the question is: has the party of Abraham Lincoln finally gone so completely off the rails that it's instead become the party of John Wilkes Booth?
