Ellen Tauscher gave you a bad quote of Steny Hoyer. He's not saying he doesn't have the votes. He's saying that the obstructionist Republicans are offering so many bogus amendments that the final vote will have to be pusehd back to Tuesday.
Thom just made an interesting revelation. He says he's contacted by all the wanna be guests on the left and the right. But it's been obvious for quite a while that his guest list, in general and over time is heavily weighted to the right.
Now I want you to think about the segment with Congressman Joe Sestak that just finished. Did you notice any difference between that segment and the segments we're use to hearing when Thom talks to his right-wing guests.
Here's the difference. Thom would make a statement or ask a question and listen to Sestaks response. He didn't interrupt. He didn't try to talk over him. He let him speak and he listened. He didn't even interrupt or protest when Sestak said ridiculous things like his over the top praise for the people who serve in the military. People serve in the military for a number of reasons. Some believe they're actually protecting their country which they believe is trying to promote democracy (they're misinformed). Some serve because they believe the world is out to get us and they want to protect our freedoms (they're misinformed). Some do it because it's a the best employment (and possibly educational) option they see available to them. Some join because it's a family tradition.
Anyone who believes that the people in the military are the best and the brightest might want to watch the HBO movie Baghdad ER and tell me that those unfortunate wounded troops are the brightest people this country has to offer. They tend to come from areas where the educational systems are the worst and where backward religious beliefs are hold sway. Whites in the military tend to vote Republican and right-wing evangelical Christianity is spreading through the military like wildfire.
As for Thom thanking Congressman Joe Sestak for his service to this country in the military, does Thom think the purpose of the U.S. military is to defend our democracy (what democracy?). Let me remind Thom of the following name: Smedley Buttler.
Whoops - sorry - I'm a Deadhead, not a Headbanger. One metal band sounds pretty much like another to me, as I'd guess one Jam band sounds pretty much like another to you.
My brother's favorite Grateful Dead joke -
I went to a Grateful Dead concert last night. They played for 4 hours! Great f--kin song!
Not to make light of these mass killings but I wonder if these killers are part of Cheney Death Squads?I just dont know what to think anymore. The current state of this country illicits a confused state of mind.
Within the last hour, another shooting took place. 8 people in an Orlando, FL office building were critically injured (7 shot, 1 coronary) by a former employee of the business for which they worked. Orlando police and swat team have the area cordoned off and are going door to door to apprehend the shooter.
If the reported jobless rate is 10.2 that means its probably double that.Pres-ident Obama needed to follow through on his pledge to create jobs by a bottom up approach and because of that failure,we allowed those money manipul-ators on wall street to pull off the biggest heist in history. They stole 20 trillion of American retirement and as punishment the fed gave them 24 trillion at 0% in-terest.Please WAKE UP!America has been destroyed!
Your post regarding the girls on the bus brought 2 events to mind -
About 5 years ago, my younger brother (I'm 11 years older) & I were listening to the radio when Joan Baez' song, "Diamonds and Rust" came on. "Who the h--l" he asked "is this lame b---h that's destroying a perfectly good AC/DC song?" I explained to him that St. Joan had written the song many years earlier, purportedly about Bob Dylan. "OH! - Now the lyrics make some sense," he said. We often share a laugh over that recollection.
A far more egregious event happened just a few weeks back. A friend, myself and his nephew were walking in the park when my friends phone rang - his ring tone is the Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again". Hearing that, his 20-something nephew said "I didn't know you were a "CSI:" fan!"
My friend and I just looked at each other. He began to try to explain to his nephew where thayt song came from, but I stopped him, saying "Don't bother, man - it'll just turn into an Abbot & Costello Routine!"
We are in Amsterdam on our way to Ghent, Belgium. Had nice flight over and today went to the Anne Frank House (Mena missed it on the last visit), Dave called United Health Care to try to collect the $4050.00 for hip replacement and surprise - they won't pay for any procedures outside the U.S. Mass transit in AMS is wonderful. The water is delicious and the meats are antibiotic and chemical free. What a concept!
Thomm, do you happen to remember the name of the five star restaurant you visited in AMS? Thanks
I wonder about folk that grouse that the Democratic healthcare plan might allow a legal medical procedure and are perfectly fine that the Republican plan will encourage health insurance companies to cancel coverage for pre-existing conditions like being the victim of rape or spousal abuse or having acne as a teenager.
Don't feel bad; we're all chumps some time (and it's often because we wanna be). What can we believe in if we don't have anything to believe in. To your point of pigment; we know that the Obama campaign inspired record numbers of black and young voters. And just this week I heard that 51% of black Democrats are happy with the Obama administration while only 34% of white Democrats are.
Of course the there are people holding on to the promise of amorphous hope and change; people made tremendous investments in the Obama mythos. Strangely, the Clinton and McCain campaigns had a point when they mocked him as "The One".
Even the allegedly "smartest man on radio" (according to the "smartest audience in radio") keeps saying he still hopes Obama is going to be FDR. Don't be surprised to hear Thom sadly tell us that President Obama has sent American troops to Nowhereistan and Whocaresistan and nuked La República de Gringo Go Home, but at the end he'll say he still has hope Obama will move to the left. When the next caller asks him how he's doing, he'll say, "Great, but I'll get better."
Keep hope alive........ but maybe we should have expected for more from ourselves.
Why boys are turning into girls
Gender-bending chemicals are largely exempt from new EU regulations, warns Geoffrey Lean.
Here's something rather rotten from the State of Denmark. Its government yesterday unveiled official research showing that two-year-old children are at risk from a bewildering array of gender-bending chemicals in such everyday items as waterproof clothes, rubber boots, bed linen, food, nappies, sunscreen lotion and moisturising cream. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/earthcomment/geoffrey-lean/6418553/Why-...

Kevin,
Somehow that needs to morph into a bumper sticker about the corporatists, since that is the source of the trouble...
I have a new bumper sticker on my truck. It says "So Many Republicans,Not En-ough WoodChippers"
Kevin,
I think people are snapping under the stress they are feeling in today's America.
In a way, they/we are feeling the results of policies by Cheney, death squads et al.
Not to make light of these mass killings but I wonder if these killers are part of Cheney Death Squads?I just dont know what to think anymore. The current state of this country illicits a confused state of mind.
DDay,
I thought it was interesting that many of the former Obama activists have gone into community organizing and government.
Richard,
Too bad the tea baggers don't realize both times the high unemployment was a result of REPUBLICAN/CORPORATE administrations!
Another Sign of the Times

@Quark:
RE: Unemployment jumps to 10.2 percent
It is the highest since Ronald Reagan was in office . . . .
