The Republican National Convention officially began today - and despite the fact that someone named "Trump" is speaking every single day - this afternoon was marked by Never Trump protests inside the arena. With the Republican party so clearly split - can the GOP really expect "party unity" by the end of this convention?

Are the Bubbles About to Burst?

Dr. Mark Weisbrot, Center for Economic and Policy Research (C.E.P.R.)/Just Foreign Policy/FAILED: What the "Experts" Got Wrong about the Global Economy & Maria Luisa Mendonça, Brazil's Network for Social Justice & Human Rights/University of Rio De Janeiro joins Thom. Experts are now seeing disturbing signs that a bubble appears to be forming in at least three major markets - New York, Miami and San Francisco. The big problem is that as housing prices keep soaring - wages are staying flat. As Daren Blomquist, a senior vice president at RealtyTrac explained - "When you start seeing 20% to 30% year-over-year increases in prices, which we've seen over the last four years in some of these markets, it's just not sustainable. People's wages are not rising 20% or 30% a year.” So - with stocks and housing prices soaring to what some think are unnatural levels - are we looking at the beginning of the Crash of 2016? Plus - More on the political crisis in Brazil

Americans are also frustated with deeply dysfunctional political system in which lies and propaganda have replaced basic fact - they're angry at a political culture that thrives on polarization and spin - and they're frustrated with breakdown of our public discourse. Which raises the question - why is the political discourse in this country so screwed up?

Sorry Cons - There Is More Racism (Not Less) By Police

Fryer Jr. released a study looking at police shootings in 10 American cities. But according to Chauncey DeVega - this study doesn't actually show that police are less racist than people say - it shows that they're PROFOUNDLY racist.

The Environmental Threat of TTIP Exposed

Ben Beachy, Sierra Club Responsible Trade Program joins Thom. On Monday - a new round of negotiations on the proposed Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership began - and a leaked chapter confirms what many of us already knew. This so-called free trade deal would be a disaster for the environment. Some of the environmentally destructive terms in the leaked draft of TTIP include requiring the U.S. and the EU "to eliminate all existing restriction on the export of natural gas in trade" - and obligating the two trade areas to "foster industry self-regulation" of energy efficiency - rather than using legally binding energy efficiency standards.

And nearly a year later, dozens of reports are now coming out about how Mylan Pharmaceuticals hiked the price of the very common life-saving EpiPen by over 450% since Mylan bought EpiPen in 2007.
