Farron Cousins, Ring of Fire Radio/DeSmog Blog/Trial Lawyer Magazine joins Thom. A federal jury recently awarded $5.1 million to Marietta College professor David Freeman in the second DuPont C-8 bellwether case trial. The jury of four women and three men ruled that the company had acted with malice when it dumped C8-tainted water into the Ohio river. C-8 is a chemical that was used to make Teflon at Dupont's Washington Works plant outside Parkersburg West Virginia. Mike Papantonio and Gary Douglas had previously won a $1.6 million dollar award in October for an Athens County woman who claimed that C8 caused her kidney cancer in another bellwether case. These two cases will serve as guidelines for 3,500 other C8 cases against DuPont if they are brought to court.
