Full Show 5/12/16: WSJ: Bernie Might Be Next President

Thom discusses the rigged and corporate Democratic Convention with attorney and radio host Mike Papantonio, whether Trump and Ryan can unify the party with former Republican Congressman Bob Ney, whether the U.S. Post Office will provide simple banking to its customers again with The District Sentinel’s Sam Sacks, and Thom remembers the life of attorney and activist Michael Ratner.

Barney Frank Overseeing Dem Platform While Running Big Bank

David Sirota, International Business Times, joins Thom. Barney Frank - who has been selected to serve on the standing commitee that will help write the party platform. The Sanders campaign is - shall we say - less than happy with this pick. Not only has Frank been one of Bernie's most outspoken critics - he's also currently on the board of Signature Bank - a bank that earlier this year was named in a lawsuist over a Ponzi scheme. So in a sense - the big banks are literally going to help write the Democratic Party's platform. What could possibly go wrong?

Rumble - McClatchy Outsourcing to India...

Crystal Wright, RT Contributor/Con Job & Rodell Mollineau, Rokk Solutions & Charles Sauer, The Market Institute all join Thom. Up to 150 McClatchy Company IT employees are the latest employees to fall victim to H-1B visas. On employee told ComputerWorld that "They are basically firing me and hiring a foreign worker to do my job at less than half the rate they were paying me. They really couldn't find American workers to do this job?" So now we have a US journalistic outlet outsourcing it's jobs to India - aren't H-1B visas just a big scam to allow corporations to outsource labor?

How the Political Revolution Continues...

Tim Canova, Candidate for Congress (D-FL, District 23)/Nova Southeastern University-Shepard Broad College of Law joins Thom. The Bernie Sanders revolution is spreading to Florida - where a law school professor and political rookie is giving Debbie Wasserman Schultz the race of her life.

Rumble - The Commission to Ban Muslims is Being Planned

Crystal Wright, RT Contributor/Con Job & Rodell Mollineau, Rokk Solutions & Charles Sauer, The Market Institute all join Thom. In an attempt to come off as more presidential - Donald Trump has proposed a "commission" headed by Rudy Giuliani to investigate banning Muslims in America. But will Trump really be able to unite the Republican party by invoking "America's Mayor" to spy on American Muslims?

Is Donald Trump the Duck Dynasty Version of Reagan?

The most popular take on Donald Trump is that we’ve never seen anything like him before. But here’s the thing: We have seen something like Trump before -- we saw it with Ronald Reagan. Now, there are obviously some big surface-level differences between Reagan and Trump. Reagan’s public persona was cool, calm, and collected; Trump’s is well, the exact opposite. Reagan had years of political experience before he ran for president; Trump has none. Reagan also was also deeply religious, or at least "spiritual" (he didn't go to church); Trump, I don’t think, has ever had a spiritual thought in his life. But if you ignore those obvious differences and focus on how Trump is running and framing his campaign, you’ll see that he’s doing the exact same thing Reagan did, only in a style more appropriate for today.

EPA's Tie to Monsanto Could Be Disastrous for Us

An EPA report on glyphosate was recently taken down just three days after it was published. And it's a move that has both Republicans - and progressives - up in arms. Conservatives are quick to declare how much they hate the EPA and it's "job-killing regulations." But progressives want to know why the EPA relies on so many studies conducted by the very industries that they're supposed to regulate.

Trump's GOP Hitman Who's Stealing Your Vote

Greg Palast, Rolling Stone/BBC News/Billionaires & Ballot Bandits joins Thom. With just over 6 months until the November elections - Trump is presumptive Republican nominee - and he's getting a lot of help from Kansas' Secretary of State - Kris Kobach. Kobach has spent years pushing for strict voter suppression laws that help Republicans get elected by putting undue burdens on voters to prove their citizenship - despite the fact that there is no evidence that voter fraud is a real problem in the United States. And that means that 36,000 people have had their registration suspended in the state of Kansas alone.

The Zika Threat Looms as the GOP Dithers

Erik Altieri, Agenda Project Action Fund joins Thom. Less than two years after the Republicans were freaking out about Ebola crossing the border from Mexico or whatever - and the Republicans are basically just shrugging at the idea of the Zika virus spreading throughout the United States. But more people here are going to be sickened by Zika than were at risk for Ebola in the United States - so what will it take for Republicans to come around and actually address this threat before it becomes a crisis?

Politics Panel - The Bernie Blackout Returns

Hughey P. Newsome, Bold.global/Move-On-Up & Ari Rabin-Havt, The Agenda/SiriusXM Progress/Lies, Incorporated: The World of Post-Truth Politics & Rebecca Downs, Red Alert Politics all join Thom Hartmann. The mainstream media may have already decided that Hillary Clinton is the democratic nominee for president - but don't tell that to Bernie Sanders or his supporters. For example - a Sanders campaign last night in Sacramento - California drew 21,000 people. The mainstream media - of course - was nowhere to be found. Why has the mainstream media just bought hook line and sinker the Clinton line that the general election has already begun?

How & Why You Should Sue Your Bankster

James Goodwin, Center for Progressive Reform joins Thom. Big banks have been ripping off consumers for years - and a new rule from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau would make it easier for consumers to see their day in court. But does the rule go far enough? You should sue your bank. We’ll have the reason why - and the way how - right after the break.

Politics Panel - Will Donald Trumpify the GOP?

Hughey P. Newsome, Bold.global/Move-On-Up & Ari Rabin-Havt, The Agenda/SiriusXM Progress/Lies, Incorporated: The World of Post-Truth Politics & Rebecca Downs, Red Alert Politics all join Thom Hartmann. The Republican Party is still struggling to come to grips with the fact Donald Trump is its de facto nominee for president. And even though he's said that he can't endorse Trump just yet - Speaker of the House Paul Ryan told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Monday that he'd step down from his position as convention chair if that's what Trump wanted. Will Trump end up shaping the Republican Party in his image or will the Republicans party manage to shape Trump in its image?

Full Show 5/10/16: Poll: Bernie Beats Trump in 3 Key Swing States

Tonight’s Politics Panel discusses how Clinton and Trump are virtually tied in three key swing states while Bernie fares far better, how the media stopped covering Bernie when Hillary decided the primary was over, and how a new study reveals that most people would see net benefits from Bernie’s proposals. Thom discusses how Trump’s GOP hitman is stealing your vote with investigative journalist and author Greg Palast and in tonight’s Daily Take Thom details the many problems with the EPA.

What Does The GOP Stand For Now? Progressive Panel

Kymone Freeman, We Act Radio/Black Lives Matter DC & Max Blumenthal, Alternet/The 51 Day War-Ruin and Resistance in Gaza both join Thom. If Paul Ryan and other Republican leaders are concerned that Trump isn't conservative enough - and Trump's supporters are upset that the Republican party isn't changing its platform according to "the will of the people" - what exactly does the Republican Party stand for anymore?
