It is the Presidents fault and the presidents that came before him for signing every free trade agreement that comes across his (their) desk. Congress is also to blame for all the jobs we have lost to foreign countries. It is obvious that the political contributions that come streaming in from these American and Multi-National companies to the politicians are why this continues to happen to the American worker. They sign these bills for their war chests for their next election. Since N.A.F.T.A. was enacted the stream of jobs leaving this country is almost as great as the stream of illegal undocumented workers that take American jobs every day in this country. Obama is responsible for signing and promoting the latest free trade agreement with Asian countries like Vietnam. China's goods pour into this country and very little is sent from our factories to their consumers! It would take a decade to retool all of our factories that have been shut down because we cannot compete with a worker making 20 dollars a day! Our politicians have signed away the future of production in America and left future generations with little hope of maintaining our present standard of living (and that is nothing to brag about) for cheap imports. I hope our future generations like working at part-time jobs and service sector employment. Because if things continue the way they presently are, those are the only jobs that will be available. With higher education becoming a fleeting dream for our future generations, with expected costs to exceed $400,000 for a bachelor’s degree within the next ten years, the service sector low paying jobs will be the only employment available to them! I am very happy I am a 60 yr. old and was able to send my daughter to a four year college. If I had to do it today I would not have the funds to do so, and neither would any of the parents I know. Good luck and here is hoping that things will change for our future kids and grandkids!

Kend, my friend from Canada, there is nothing wrong with shopping around for the school you prefer your children to attend. What is wrong is to use tax payer funds to finance that charter school, while taking money out of the Public Schools, that the citizens have a right to review under the school board. Not a school that is run by Privateers for personal profit and the parents have no direct influence on the schools other than using tax payer money.

Now is the time for the factory workers to hit hard. Next week will be too late. They may lose but they can do as much damage as possible to Bain/Romney/Repugs on the way out -- it's their best barganing chip; but unfortunately already (almost) too late.

Global, perhaps you missed the news on your fox variety show; Obama has deported more illegal aliens then any President so far! More than Your guy Bush did in his 8 years, that is probably because his political donors made money on illegals in their factories. He has pissed off the Latino voters because they feel he hasn't done enough. Try to get your facts straight, even if you’re a Republican that is no excuse to get the facts wrong. Unless your name is Romney !

The first political party to stand up and defend American workers and America’s manufacturing base by cracking down on free trade and outsourcing policies will BE THE NEW LIBERAL POLITICAL PARTY.

  • Despite Getting Zero Mentions in Any of The Presidential Debates...   12 years 32 weeks ago

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again – the first political party to stand up and defend American workers and America’s manufacturing base by cracking down on free trade and outsourcing policies will win big at the polls.

No they won't. They wouldn't get on the ballot in enough states, and they wouldn't be allowed in the debates. Face it Thom, we're screwed.

What is wrong with shopping around for a better school. Isn't it parents job to get the best for their children.

  • Despite Getting Zero Mentions in Any of The Presidential Debates...   12 years 32 weeks ago

What about all the jobs here in the USA that Obama will outsource to illegal immigrants if he is elected and declares amnesty in his promised immigration reform. He is promising this today to pander to the Latino Vote.

Thom could be called a journalist. So, there is at least one.

Not on the subject of Sensada, but did anyone hear Romney tell voters in Ohio, that he believed in vouchers so that people could take their child to a Charter school or shop around for the best school? He was quoted as saying "The teacher's unions don't like my plan, but they don't contribute to my campaign, so I don't have to listen to them." If you read beyond the lines, he is essentially saying that money will buy favors from me.

  • Despite Getting Zero Mentions in Any of The Presidential Debates...   12 years 32 weeks ago

I just heard on MSNBC that Romney will put $701,000.00 into his personal 401 K plan when Sensada is outsourced to China.

It shouldn't be too tough to find out what auto brands use sensata sensors - then organize a boycott against all those that do. If all of them do, then find out who buys the most.

First to cave will be the boycotted auto company(s), who depend so strongly on domestic sales. It will not take long for them to cancel Sensata orders and use replacement sensors, and Sensata will think again about moving.

Secondly - why is nothing said of how many millions in taxpayer money sensata is getting to subsidize this move - nevermind tax base erosion. This loophole needs to be slammed shut on day 1 of a democratic controlled government.

Is there even one intelligent, non-compromised journalist in all of the media?

The Railroad ticket (Romney and Ryan) is retrogressive to the core. I have a problem with Romney's gray matter, is there any there? He doesn't know whether he is coming or going. Who can answer why Mr. Obama did not hit Romney hard with the most recent outsourcing that will happen on November 5h? I am talking about Sonata Technologies.

If you truely beleive that then you may want to consider voting for Rocky Anderson of the Justice party (voterocky.org)

His disertation on Torture and the Rule of Law is chillingly profound. But he is not one to just point out the problems...He has sound solutions towards resolving a corrupt two teared system.

    Well if you want change...

To those voting for the lesser of two evils...You are still playing with the same deck. The only way to get change from Washington to Wall St. to Main st. is to NOT vote for Obama or Romney...Which sends a LOUD and clear message to both parties, that Americans are fed up with the inequality, and injustice, of a corrupt two teared system.

Go to jillstein.org (green) or voterocky.org (justice)

You can watch and listen to interviews of both candidates on RT News, Democracy Now, and the Thom Hartmann Show.
Amy Goodman, of Democracy Now, hosted a debate with Jill Stein and Rocky Anderson live and in time with the Obama, Romney Debates.

The rethuglicans wouldn't hesitate to prosecute Democrats guilty of the same crime.

Crime is crime. No one should be above the law.

The women in America can sink the republican party ,they must vote for there self interest and choose control over what happen,s to there own bodies .

Get out there and vote ladies ,we have to have a more balanced society and empowering the right,s of women is a step out of the dark ages the republican party and the christian right who back them believe in a god that want,s and need,s something from humans the new spirituality causes us to remember that we have free will and no choice is a wrong choice and that we are all one and all divine beings having a physical experience.

Dear Thom.. First and formost exactly how do I answer My daughter when she asks Me why everyday people {like us} seem to get more Law enforcement attention and end up in prisons than the politicians or the politically connected who commit crime as a daily practice and more serious criminal offenses and don't ever seem to get charged while we have our faces names and addresses plastered in our local newspapers for just speeding tickets .Thom she asked why the "right from wrong" We are held to isn't the same all over America , could you just imagine what would happen if while at an ATM machine I got angry because the machine took my card or whatever and I kicked it , The State Police would be at my home before I got there yet these politicians de-regulated the banksters allowing them to plunder our country into near bankruptcy and they not only didn't get arrested they were given bonues . How did The America we love end up the land of hypocracy ? Where are those infamous Ethics commitees or those watch dog groups ? Why do we the people seem have More or ALL the Law enforcement focus while the upper crust seem's to have little to none ?

You are absolutely right, but this is next to impossible with the Congressional make-up we have at the moment. These guys are still firmly entrenched in our politics. Romney is their front man and let's not kids ourselves that they are out of power. They are merely waiting to take over the reins with a Romney win. Any moves by Obama presently will turn to mayhem. Let's hope the country runs Romney out on a rail. I am open to any suggestions people may have as to forming groups that can begin to demand these matters are addressed.

  • The Bush Administration Committed War Crimes When it Tortured Terrorist Suspects...   12 years 32 weeks ago

Indict Bush and Cheney.....until this is done....we cannot know right from wrong.

  • The Bush Administration Committed War Crimes When it Tortured Terrorist Suspects...   12 years 32 weeks ago

I agree that many of the alternative candidates appear more honest and cite issues that need to be addressed. However, I am so concerned about a possible Romney win, I believe we all have to push for Obama as hard as we can. I have been around for seventy-two years and can not remember a time when our country was so threatened.

If they actually arrested everyone who has committed a crime against the American people there would be no one to run Washington, Wall ST. or the multi-national corporations. If Obama, whom I will not vote for, actually arrested everyone who actually has committed a crime against Humanity, he would have to arrest several presidents and vice-presidents including him. Big money runs this country we call home and there are too many vested interests to allow anyone in the big-boys club to get charged with the crimes they have committed. Think about it and name one person that has been arrested that is in the club. You can't because they are all still walking around running Wall St., the Military Industrial Complex, Multi-National Corporations and Washington....I am voting for Dr. Stein for president even though she has not a chance in hell of winning against all the money that has flooded into the Dem. and Repub. candidates. I will follow my conscious on this one and vote for the only person who has not committed crimes against Humanity that is actually on the ballot here in California.

Also, the people of California are facing the same game plan that attacked the teachers in Wisconsin and that was successful in building resentment against the Teachers Union there. Here it is called prop. 32 and its objective is to prevent the unions from supporting candidates by prohibiting union funds from dues paid to the union from being used to support a candidate and restricting the bargaining ability of the union when it comes to signing new contracts for the teachers. Many of the teachers I have spoken too are considering using their education to go into a new career. While the new proposition will allow outside pacs to contribute as much as they wish to, the unions and teachers will not have the same right. This is another attack by the Republicans on the teachers of our state with the desire to eliminate unions all together for public workers. We have learned today that another 11 million dollars was sent from Arizona to support Prop. 32. If the Republicans are victorious in their attempt to destroy the bargaining power of the union, more and more teachers will simply leave teaching for better paying jobs in the private sector. The real victims will be the children in the state of California.

Unless one is simply skimming the surface; this entire election is becoming a caricature of a Kafkaesque farce.

Meanwhile: Patriot-hero Bradley Manning returns to court on October 29th for a motion hearing to dismiss all charges for lack of a speedy trial as he nears his 900th day behind bars. Justice? -- I think not. His detention included treatment that should be investigated as "torture."

It is increasingly clear that the fraternity of political (-professionals?) cohort-scoundrels, will never hold each other accountable, except for tactical advantage. Unfortunately we must wait for Historians to judge.

I am disgusted. These injustices are on an increasingly long list of "Things To Do."
