I'm surprised at all the people saying no. Remember everybody, you get what you ask for, so think positive and keep the faith that we will win out in the end. The meek shall inherit the Earth. I'm not even a particualary religious person, but I have my moments. I am however, a spiritual person and I believe that we will get back what we put out, so put out some good, positive energy to our lawmakers and surround the internet and free speech, etc. with positive energy and we will prevail.
So, as per the above mentioned video (if you even bothered to watch it), who do you suppose is really at fault for hard working entertainers not getting their due? The people downloading it, who have been driven by the rich into getting anything they can for the least amount of cash outlay? Why not? How do you suppose these corporations got rich to begin with? People who are being led on and facilitated by the very middle men..the merchants...the big recording companies or their parent corporate owners...who are doing nothing less than a criminally charged plot to set up and ensnare people (a kind of entrapment)?
These corporations make huge profits on their getting people to do these downloads through their web sites that PROMOTE IT! Then they turn right around and claim that people are stealing from them? What a racket!! Watch the video!!
Don't blame it on the people who have watched rich people get rich through a whole lot of stealing themselves and be lionized and idolized for it. People who have been proselytized into the commercialized "gotta have it" mentality look at the cream of the capitalist crop, who are not averse to getting things for free if they can or even stealing if they can and are now getting away with it as a matter of course, and are not any less willing to act in a manner more holy than their wealthy exemplars.
I don't know if anyone has told you but we are at war..at war with wealthy corporate criminals who are using extraordinarily tricky ways of undermining the majority of us into a form of serfdom. I believe it goes even further in that these ruling elite are trying to actually depopulate the world through poverty, disease, and starvation of the masses.
There is, on the other hand, a counter culture that is arising and fighting the corrupt and greedy culture of laissez faire capitalism. You see it in such things as alternatives to having to buy things outright...like the myriad of tutorials and other extremely useful things on YouTube and other web sites. You see it in places like SourceForge for alternative software and operating systems. There are a whole lot of extremely talented people who have a far superior outlook than just trying to make a lot of money in a short period of time.
it is inevitable. the government will eventually seize full control of the internet (and anything resembling a free and open forum of information exchange).
to do this, expect some kind of hegelian dialectic; thesis, antithesis, synthesis... or as david icke likes to put it, problem, reaction, solution:
the government will stage some kind of attack on the internet, internet users will be horrified and terrorized, the government will 'suggest' increasing security measures. the people will gladly give up their former liberties for increased security.
the only solution to this is to delete the government. all power must be removed from the control of the few "representatives." the time of the republic is over, it's time for a directed democracy: where the people don't have a government because the people _are_ the government.
Oh yeah, let me guess what will happen: I won't go online anymore, because this doggoned www will be nothing but dull business. The blogger scene, those wonderfully crazy people who work without pay, will be gone. Same goes for Wikipedia: Who would be so dumb and work without pay there, if it wasn't free anymore, huh? So why would I have a netbook any longer, huh? Why not go back to the good old typewriter, huh? In case I wanna buy something and therefore look for product information: This doesn't happen very often, so I will be okay with using a computer in a library HAHAHA!
Oh well, I'll have more time to play music and actually meet people in real life. ***YAAAAAWN***
Certainly, Congress should be criticized for its hypocracy on this issue but this notion the work of others who try to make a living providing content should be available for free to everyone has become pervasive and should stop. People invest large sums to educate themselves and years acquiring skills to do this kind of work and deserve to be compensated. To do otherwise is just a continuation of the devaluation of work taking hold in this world. Entertainment has always been a difficult way to earn a living. When some use or "aggregate" the material of others everyone who partipated in the arduous work of its creation gets screwed. If the real problem is giant entertainment companies increasingly owning things there should a way to address it without penalizing the working stiffs.
So it was Episcopal Bishop George Packard that scaled the ladder! I thought it was transcedental watching the Bishop going over the barriers. Wonderful interview of Blase Bonpane and George Packard!
I am new to the ways of on line discussions so my skills here are still rudimentary. Alwaysthemore (rather than nevertheless) I have been plagued by how it is that wealthy, well informed people seem to subscribe to a race to the bottom economic mentality that apparantly is egged on by religious fanatics mesmerized by the prospect of the second coming. How is it that seemingly rational intelligent people deny the evidence of climate change and ignore the apparant need for all the unaccounted externalities for all the products, services and phantoms of inefficiency that they successfully sell?
Well, I think I've grasped a postulate that explains this apparant congnitive distortion. The idea is that the hi ho wealthios paid attention to what Lester Brown predicted decades ago that the carrying capacity of our planet can only sustain less than 25% of the worlds current population. The thin upper crust of world society secretly believe that they will survive the coming apocalypse by living off mushrooms in deep caves and abandoned mineshafts. Or maybe the ability to graft bionic gills to humans is within technolgical reach so that survival in temperate aquatic environments will be possible for some.
So it might seem desirable for some to face the pandemic planetary devastation of the world as we know it with the hope that colonies of gated communities will some how survive. Moreover, a means must be developed whereby a mass die off of humanity can be achieved without incurring the baggage of guilt and shame that would come with it. What the hell! We will just blame it all on the weather!
Ironically, I wonder if the elite truly believe that they will be able to find happiness without the pleasure and distraction of all of their toys? Then again, if we can somehow survive the end of the Mayan calendar next year, the realization that we are about to lose a heaven on earth that civilization has taken for granted all these years will come to pass.
Then maybe we can all work together and try something to survive while maintaining our higher purpose of evolving humanity It's our burgeoning world population and robust gene pool, stupid!
Wow!!! Dr Richards! Thanks for that web site. This video should be seen by everyone. It blows the lid off of the SOPA scam. I think it is the same kind of tactics that led to the current bankster/wall street scandals. They sucker you in, providing what appears to be honest and legitimate actions, then when you bite, they make you feel like you did something dishonest, and they sue you for all your life's savings and then some. Be sure to see this video before they ban it. It is that good! It is that damaging to the powers that are trying to get SOPA law passed. See the video!! and make sure everyone you know sees it!
Dr Manfred Max Neef from Chile taught traditional economics at Berkely for a while and had an epiphany while working in the mountains of South America. He saw that economics does not address the grass roots problems that people face and coined the term, "Bare Foot Economics". He was the one cited by a lady calling in to Brunch with Bernie today. He conceived fourstages of economic development: undeveloped, developing, developed and undeveloping. The US, he postulates in in this last stage.
Some of Dr. Max Neef's writings seem hard to come by. Though I am not highly educated, I've spawned some interest in what he has to say about economic growth in a world having severely restraining limits as per the needs of ordinary people rather than hungry inorganic systems of "ever expanding civilization". I'd be interested when anyone stumbles across inexpensive access to more of his work. i can be contacted through Facebook, zthomaszabski@facebook.com Namaste.
There is a natural phenomena called "Red Tide" that occurs sometimes which kills marine life. I saw this many years ago when a leopard shark had entered the marina and was swimming around and bumping into boats. I learned later that it was likely due to the Red Tide that was occurring at that time. But, I imagine marine biologist would be able to tell weather it was the Red Tide or radiation sickness that cause the seal's lesions and/or demise. I guess one would have to wait for a study to be done to determine this.
Gotta watch those sneaky Japanese....sending trained seals to smuggle in radiation into the US to contaminate us. They never really did get over our A bombs and their WWII balloon bombs was a failure except for one that made it to Oregon...or was it Washington state? Fukishima disaster?...earthquake? or maybe ET aliens? They are getting us back for Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Or maybe it is the Iraqis who have plotted this dastardly deed...getting back at us for all of that depleted uranium that our troops polluted Iraq with causing thousands of birth defects. It might be a good idea if American women, especially on the west coast...didn't get pregnant. I guess one could say "What goes around, comes around". ;-}
You do such a good job of handling callers with low information, I figured you and your listeners might enjoy what happened to me with an actual robocall.
A couple of months ago I got a robocall from Dick Morris beginning with "having been identified as a prominent conservative" you have been selected to participate in this important poll. I was then told that after Dickie got through with his spiel, I would be asked who best represents conservativism. My choices included all of the usual suspects - Romney, Paul, Santorum, Bachman, Perry, Cain, and even Palin. But, I was also offered the choice of other. Therefore, I listened to the spiel and when a human returned to take my selection, I identified as the person who best represents conservative ideals as being Dwight David Eisenhower to which the caller responded "Who?"
My grandfather dealt with Jehovah's Witnesses by slowly backing away from the locked screen door while having an otherwise normal conversation, so that he was eventually unable to hear them and they couldn't get "persecution points" for the interaction.
Hello Thom, in regards too the telemarking list you are correct with the phone number it is 888-382-1222, there is also a website, that you can go too instead of calling the number https://www.donotcall.gov/
What's funny about telemarketers is how their pushy tactics (such as not giving you a chance to say no) can be used against them. I once had a call from a credit card company, and the guy never asked me if I wanted the card. So about twenty minutes in, after I refused to give him my social security number, he said, "Weeeell, I think I can still get you the card..."
Granny, you need to stockpile a bunch of machine-guns. Foreseeing and considering escalation, you actually need tanks too and even rockets and aircrafts. The confederate army didn't make war on us with a few pistols, Granny. If ya wanna start a civil war, you'll need the whole scale.
Ya really wanna start the killing in this country that way, Granny? Or do you still think you can make revolution with slingshots? No Granny, your revolution would kill millions of your fellow-Americans!
Why don't ya play just with paintball guns, Granny -- and forget the whole thing?
Generally I am with you -- considering myself way left from Obama. But FDR wasn't so left-wingy either. He actually was criticized by the left the same way like Obama in our days. FDR's work basically was to chill down the revolt and moderate unions. And he did this via social policy AND laws that limited strikes. Wen WWII began, strikes were not appropriate any longer. FDR downright stopped the unions.
Frankly I consider the average American so conservative, that I cannot imagine my socialist 'DreamPresident' to become reality. We can congratulate ourselves if we get Obama again AND take away the house from GOP and go on without the kinda gridlock we've seen.
The program seems to mess up things, I clicked #16 to reply and if you click #14 in this comment you get to #16 indeed.
Sorry, but we need police. Those who put others' lives at risk in traffic have to be stopped by officers. If you wanna change the present police to a good police, just vote for progressive parties. The more Americans vote for red-necks and blue-dogs, the worse gets our police. For police is being controlled by government. You're dumping the baby with the bathwater if you wanna cut away police, buddy!
