Aside from the alternative fuels perspective: "[T]he moment when demand exceeds supply." "Cost of crude oil is predicted to top $100 a barrel." First: As if the price is based on supply and demand (and not completely manipulated). Next: Remember $4.00 a gallon (price speculated well beyond $100 a barrel)? Last: We are warned? What another crock. There could be more production now through 2020 than this world has ever seen. But, production levels are manipulated as well. This is just another excellent example of societal manipulation via ("leaks" through) the Press.
Atheists can run for higher office, just like a Democrat with a spine and espouses the party platform. Running and getting are two different things though. :-(

When it is business as usual (which is most of the time) there are no leaders, just the people on top (a handful of oligarchs and their minions) and the people underneath (the rest of us). The only time that reality can be changed is when the people underneath stop looking to some politician from above to come along and lead them.
When people stop looking outside themselves for a leader, when people decide that they are going to have to get off their butts and do the leading themselves, that’s when they start getting together and organizing themselves into a movement to press for their own common interest. And the interesting thing is this, once the people are organized enough to lead their own movement, then (and only then) is it possible for political leaders to emerge. This is because a political leader is simply a politician that has realized which way the prevailing wind is blowing and that it is good politics for him to be moving in the same direction.
Case in point the civil rights movement produced leaders sprung out of the people, movement leaders like John Lewis, Medgar Evers and MLK. Only then did a politician like LBJ decide it was safe enough to show political “leadership” by passing the civil rights legislation.
We need to stop looking to Obama to lead us, and start leading ourselves by building our own grassroots movement.

Pablito, I understand your frustration. I feel it too. We all do. But we can't just give up and stop voting. If we do "they" get exactly what they want and we get screwed. We've got to get angry and we've got to get active. Remember when Thom says "Despair is not an option". Now is NOT the time to throw in the towel.
I have young children and I fight for them as much as for myself. Maybe more.
I'm reminded that FDR allowed his Administration to be influenced by the ravings of Father Coughlin and America suffered mightily for it just as relief was needed most . . . FDR learned who the enemy of America was and still is BUT President Obama seems immune to learning lessons from history and to reason.
Educating the public cannot be left to the Democrats in Congress. That responsibility lies with all of us.
Too many times I've watched as progressives and liberals stand silently by when Right Wingers spew their nonsense. They are allowed to say some of the most ridiculous things with no one calling them on it. In fact they rely on.
We've got to stand up and call them on it, preferably citing facts to dispute their claims. When their nonsense is routinely disputed and their ignorance is highlighted, they won't be as brazen with their words. And others around them won't be so quick to take what they say as gospel.
Thom, thank you for your book "Cracking the Code". That book and your daily show have helped me to take on the Right Wing crazies intelligently and effectively.
McClatchy identifies several Democratic senators who want the tax cuts extended for all Americans, including Evan Bayh of Indiana, Ben Nelson of Nebraska ... It is a falsehood (lie) to say that tax cuts for billionaires stimulates the economy and creates jobs. It it were true, then this very minute the economy would be booming and unemployment nil.
Few characters in the New Testament have been so sorely miscast as Mary Magdalene, whose reputation as a fallen woman originated not in the Bible but in a sixth-century sermon by Pope Gregory the Great. Not only is she misidentified as the repentant fallen prostitute of legend, meditating and levitating in a cave, but she was not necessarily even a notable sinner: Being possessed by "seven demons" that were exorcised by Jesus, she was arguably more victim than sinner. And the idea, popularized by The Da Vinci Code, that Mary was Jesus' wife and bore his child, while not totally disprovable, is the longest of long shots.

If I utter the prayer "Thank you" daily, I'm afraid sometimes it would come out with a sarcastic tone. ;-)

Atheism, is the belief of unbelief. Its sort of like when you choose not to make a choice, you're by default making a choice.

Bernie Sanders said we are moving to an Oligarchy
I think Bernie is out of his mind,we are already in an Oligarchy
John from Mass.who called in lamenting why did the Prez not cap interest rates ?
Bernie replied,"I could only get 20 Senators to go along with that proposal."
Well what else do you need to see to know that we ,you..me and all other ordinary Americans
are being screwed by our Govt.....And these are the guys you can hear Thom demand day after day
that you must go out & vote ..vote for what ...the legitimate "knee capping & beheading" of yourself.
Yeah! that's right go vote for people who don't care about ya!
Remember that healthcare they keep saying they passed...well I am going to the DR.
and I called ahead and ask what my portion of the bill would be......Well,it's a whooping $650.00
for this 1 visit.
Yeah so much for Health Care Reform...they are lieing to us day after day folks.

When Big Money owns Washington, DC, we have no-one to blame but ourselves. It is just more of the fat-cats collecting on their big donations.
We MUST VOTE on November 2, and elect people who the changhe President Obama promised.
Mark my words:
The Media's Narrative & Polling will be grossly proven wrong.
What we've learned and know, is that we need a bigger majority.
And we're gonna have it.
And the republicans are as toasted as the Blue Dogs are, and they dont even know it!
Obama makes a lot of us feel like weenies.. :..(
Oh well, guess we'll get roasted in Nov.... one way or another.
