Outback -- Thom has taught me so much I cannot resist responding. Today is my birthday and I am 76. I mainly mention that to let you know I didn't realize how much I had to learn, in spite of my age and PhD in engineering. If this thread were not 6 days hold, I would not mention such personal, identifying detail. The reason I wouldn’t want to mention those details is because I would not want to influence the response.
He taught me how bad the Roe vs. Wade judgment was. I bet you don't hear that on any other liberal show. Am I correct? I mostly only listen to Thom, so I am not sure. When he talks about judicial supremacy, I bet he feels like you that he is just 'pissing in the wind'. Another related thing he taught me was that Gandhi drank his own urine.
Whenever Thom has a guest with whom he discusses economics, the callers that follow almost never talk about economics. Talk about 'pissing in the wind'. The most obvious example of this was on May 4, 2017, hour 1 when he had Kate Raworth the author of "Doughnut Economics" on as the guest. When he finished his segment with Ms Raworth, one could hear him say under his breath, “that’s strange no one has called in” (or something close to that).
A simpler thing Thom taught me was the concept of the “commons”. I thought I was very ignorant, until I had a hard time finding anyone who knew about the concept of the “commons”.
deepspace -- Concerning the difference between liberal and progressive. I like Bernie's definition: liberal is for social issues and progressive is for economic issues. I think a very interesting example is the LA Times. The paper is liberal, but its support of progressive ideas (e.g. 91% top tax rate) are almost non-existent.

In the run up to the Civil War southern racist slaveholders routinely physically attacked anyone who disagreed with them on the subject of slavery. This extended to the very Senate where unarmed Charles Sumner, senator from Massachusetts, was attacked by Preston Brooks of South Carolina who was armed with a cane. Bullying is part and parcel of reactionary politics and I see a repitition of this type of behavior on the horizon.

Gianforte's election is a perfect example of why early voting is a really bad idea. In this case it came back to bite you in the rear end.
In my opinion Gianforte should have found a more subtle way to help this classic pain in the ass "journalist" eat the floor. Suggesting perhaps accidentally stepping on his foot while quickly moving forward then helping him back up by lifting him by the ears followed by an "oops"

Gianforte was afraid he might lose the election. He slammed Jacobs to appeal to the base. Laura Ingraham's tweet about the incident, "...what would Montana men do..." attests to the fact that the base loves and respects violence. Trump pushing his way past the Montenegro diplomat strikes the same chord with the right. They are ready for a fight/revolution.
The guy is just a hot head. He's lucky he's in a position where he can blow it off with just an "I'm sorry." Any legal action won't amount to anything, but might be necessary to close the books on this incident and make him appear to be more civilized.

Impulse control seems to be a major issue for Republicans. There is no excuse for this behavior or Gianforte's inital fabricated statement. If I had done what Gianforte had done, I would potentially lose my RN license.
Hopefully Gianforte has an 1 year stint as a Congressman!

The assault and battery that Gianforte delivered to that reporter not only didn't hurt him with the Republican Base I'm sure that it helped him very much. The Republican are not a party . They are fighting a war against us. We can't reason with them work with them compromise with them or give them any credibility . The neo-liberal Clinton wing of the Democratic Party must be purged from the Party, The powers that rule the democratic Party are already promoting the possible candidacy of Terry Mcauliffe in2020. Terry Mcauliffe is a piece of human garbage . The only reason that he has any kind of power in the party is becausehe was a big fundraiser for the Clintons from giant corporations and millionaires and Billionaires. I have been a big fan of Bernie sanders for over 25 years and the Clintons Terry Mcauliffe Donna Brazille Debbie Wasserman Schultz and the rest of the trash not counting Kieth Ellison who is fantastic aren't worthy to kiss his feet.

I think they should keep on him constantly, peppering him with questions everywhere he goes. Before the bubble burst (2003), there were two thousand homeless in SoCal (exact area I didn't get; Los Angeles?) But after the housing bubble burst (2008), they said there were eight thousand homeless. Follow up studies were surprised to then find (2012) a sharp decline to practically none. They also recounted police using a half filled beer can retrieved (supposedly) from a trash bin to accost homeless and demand identification. The two stories together suggests that homeless numbers rose as a result of the banksters, police took action by identifying homeless, but that these homeless then (were) "disappeared". Much earlier than this, I heard a story on YT talking about the government(s) taking vagrants and homeless and sending them to (Black Ops) centers to be destroyed. I know here where I live in Florida we started seeing an influx of panhandlers and homeless and now all of them have vanished. I wouldn't be surprised at all to find that state governments are disposing of unwanted persons. It is only the beginning of them purging anyone they deem as "unfit" or who has "outlived their usefulness" or they finally get around to labelling as a "terrorist"; which is you and the rest of us who aren't on board with the NWO. These people have no regard for life, human or otherwise, and it is not beneath them to murder. So, you are correct. If the people of this country don't wake up, and soon, it is going to be too late. I know here, people at least are mildly aware of what is going on; whereas a few years back if something was said about what is going on, it was met with open and hostile resistence. So, to some extent, things are better, but not enough to stop the opposition, or garner any good at this point.

Things are getting damn frightening in this country. I just saw a clip of Gianforte proselytizing about how people in biblical times worked their entire lives and never retired. He was going on and on about how Noah built the ark when he was 600 years old and never "retired". He's going to do everything he can to gut Social Security and Medicare. You can't tell me the people of Montana didn't know what they were getting with this nutjob. They're probably cheering this guy on for "showing that reporter a thing or two". Trump's gone off the rails, the GOP wants to kill millions of working poor, BILLIONAIRES are going to get a MUCH bigger tax break than what working people earn in their entire lifetimes. And the Democrats refuse to even put single-payer healthcare in their platform. It's starting to look like all the other old empires right before they crumbled. If We the People don't get very serious about rising up and demanding a stop to this shit, we're all going down.
