I don't like either choice. My answer would be NO! no troops on the ground, period! Making the airspace a no fly zone is one thing but to put troops on the ground NO NO NO....we're expanding the war into another Nam.
If we had a real honest media, even a real honest so-called alternative media, the Bushes would be in jail for gun running, narco trafficing, false flag mass murder, assasinations, war crimes and gross corruption.
I'd like to see the Clintons in the cell next to them.
"Third Way," "New Democrats," "No Labels." A pox on all of this "centrist," "Republican Lite," "ConservaDem.," nonsense.
Bernie Sanders respresents a once-in-a-political-lifetime opportunity for a true political realignment in this country. His election, in and of itself, wouldn't move America to the left. But it would, for a very brief moment, stop our truly perilous slide down the slippery slope of the corporatist coupe d'etat. Bernie would give us one last opportunity to start the long, hard, climb back up the slope, towards something resembling a true small "d," small "r" deocratic republic that represents the interests of all Americans, not just the privileged few.
As good as she is on some policy issues (admittedly, she is far better than ANY Republican on most social and economic issues), on this existential plain - of corporate and oligarchic political power - Hillary Clinton is still a dyed-in-the-wool Corporatist.
If she is elected, it will maintain the status quo. Washington will continue to be grid-locked. Chicago-school economics (which thrives on political gridlock) will still be the rule of the day (as it has been since 1980, even under Bill Clinton and Barack Obama), with President Hillary Clinton proposing policies that would blunt the hard edges of austerity just enough to keep the necessary political realignment - back to the proven-to-be-successful Keynesian economic policies that gave rise to the "Great Prosperity" that followed WWII - from ever taking place.
Thanks for the article. I also wonder why the Justuce Department does not do someting about all of the gerrymandered districts that we keep hearing about. If the districts have been drawn to keep a particular party in control, isn't that illegal?
The record of the Congress to assert its authority on decisions to wage wars or to control the abuses of the intelligence agencies over the last 60+ years is not encouraging.
The Congress has also permitted the consolidation and privatization of policing, war-making, and intelligence gathering for the planning and operation of foreign and domestic actions. Along with judicial deference to the war powers of the executive branch as legislated by Congress, the Congress has imposed its own limitations in its authority over these executive branch activities.
Finally, as we have learned through the Senate torture investigation, when it determines it is necessary, the CIA will spy on substantive oversight actions by the Congress and will assert its expertise as the final interpretor and arbiter on what the American people can learn about what is being done in their name.
Unfortunately, we will probably be the last to discover what has been done.
Sort of an anything goes Friday. Something that might be worth checking out is this link. http://www.marketplace.org/topics/business/corner-office/full-interview-.... It's an hourlong interview with Charles Koch. A couple things I thought interesting was how Daddy Koch raised them; and how he says in essence that it's not him or his brothers or the corporation doing the political work and funding, it's outside organizations. You can listen to or read the interview.
Mathboy; the concern that grilled meat can cause cancer is not recent; has been around for decades I think. What was recent was processed meat, but that too has been asserted for decades. What is new is that a link to cancer has been established according to research. One thing to note is that what is referred to as "processed meat;" are things like hot dogs, sausage, ham, cold cuts, etc. However; other meats that are not what you would think of as "processed meat," also contain chemicals/additives/preservatives --- e.g. uncooked turkey, chicken, pork, ground beef/turkey/chicken for example. Read the labels some time.
On a side note; a new disease has been documented; b. carsonoma; common name; Carson's disease. It is a malignancy that affects the brain; symptoms are befuddlement, inability to think rationally, dishonesty, and lethargy.
Obama, like LBJ, does not want the JFK treatment. The US has no business in Syria and should be ashamed of creating and supporting ISIL to serve the goals of PNAC.
Dear Thom, Well it really does look as if we are all pretty well screwed , between the ever increasing number of false flag events that are going to be what is used to take Marshall law like control of our country, we sit back and watch as every aspect of day to day Government has become a vulgar vile corrupt slime pit of egomaniacal criminally insane liar's and cronies we all know exactly what took place in 2000 and the world laughed at us and with that our DOJ did nothing so now we have a built in corruption factor to deal with which is obviously how the collapse was allowed to happened anyway but just look at what we did after the crime was perpetrated. They lobby heavily to change law's that they then manipulate to perpetrate there crime that they cannot now be prosecuted for . MY God how easy is it to see yet when you sit and watch C-span Senate hearing it's a know wonder I've never seen so much ass kissing in my adult life . I'm deeply ashamed of our double standard system that has become the very money pit of all Government & corporate corruption . yet we are held to such high moral & legal standard it's just disgraceful ...
I am very disappointed in Obama caving to the pressure from the MIC to further escalate our involvement in Syria. He's pursuing a failed policy by continuing our involvement in a region of the world we have no business being in. Granted Syria is in a downward spiral but our meddling in trying to depose another dictator is not where our efforts can be used effectively. We created the very enemies we are fighting and now we are going to help create more enemies. It is like quicksand; the more we struggle the deeper we get.
Yes, but I dont think we should be sending troops there, we need to get out of that area, and leave those people alone, and let them work out their own problems, if we help them it should be with food, shelter, and medicla help.
Hopefully this posts; third try!!! I won't vote for Hillary. I think she's now "against war" and the TPP to get elected. Some things can't be overlooked. Ray McGovern, former CIA agent, Republican, stood up with his back to her wearing a "No War" tee-shirt. Hillary's bodyguards (thugs) attacked him, hauled him off, beat him up and had him put in jail. Hillary was giving a speech on how much more "free speech" American has than other countries. These are Gestapo actics. I'll write in Bernie. We live in a fascist state not all that much different from Nazi Germany or the former USSR.
Thom - - just listened to your discussion with a guest on Tuesday’s show where you argued that the flip side of the national debt is that it is the national SAVINGS. You are, of course, absolutely right. I would make the further point that every penny of government spending goes into the nongovernment sector - - whether it is a payment to a military contractor, a supplier of office equipment or a Social Security recipient, someone in the private sector has more money. And when the amount the government spends into the private sector exceeds the amount the government takes out of the private sector through taxes (i.e., it runs a deficit), that excess accrues to the benefit of the private sector. The great Jamie Galbraith has expressed the converse of this: “If the government is running a surplus, money is accruing in governmnet coffers rather than in the hands of ordinary people and companies, where it might be spent and help the economy.”
It seems to me that when the government deficit spends, all the parties involved are happy. For example, if the government wants to buy a fighter jet from Lockheed Martin and “pays for it” by issuing a treasury bond, the government is happy because it gets the fighter jet it wanted, Lockheed Martin is happy because it makes a sale and earns revenue and the investor in the Treasury is happy because he wanted to save his money in a safe, risk-free investment (otherwise he would have done something else with his money). So everyone is happy. Where’s the problem? The only possible problem would be if the additional government spending contributed to inflation. But with inflation at record lows at present, this is not a concern.
I'd like to add that my system also takes advantage of apathy. If people are discouraged from voting, politicians get less power.
I'll admit, though, that there is a possibility of a reverse tragedy of the commons. If the same discouragement obtains everywhere, then it's as if it's happening nowhere.
The recent news that grilled meat causes cancer did not say that it's as likely to cause cancer as anything else. It was stated as a zero-or-one proposition. Does it cause cancer?Yes. But does it cause it at anywhere near the rate that smoking tobacco does? No. Frankly, there's no way to compare the danger, because the means of consumption are apples and oranges.
Oh, processed meat, not grilled meat. I couldn't keep track. Thanks.
I don't like either choice. My answer would be NO! no troops on the ground, period! Making the airspace a no fly zone is one thing but to put troops on the ground NO NO NO....we're expanding the war into another Nam.
FEC is doing its job. They are followinng the orders of the ruling elites.

A Theatrical Feat
… … … …
A politician lies
with his face in disguise
as a paragon of truth, - {lest} les’
we see that he’s ruth-less.
So on his face
we see no trace
of hypocritical deceit.
It’s quite a theatrical feat.

Rightwing Talkers
… … … …
The Right wing’s talkers
tend “talking-points” obsessive,
and as insufferable squawkers
tend oppressive and aggressive.
They don’t much converse,
but repeatedly rehearse
their Fox-written script verse by verse.
=======================
MUCH Better, with a “Progressive” Panel
… … … … …
Ah.
More useful this news-show when panelists tend Progressive, -
instead of Rightist “Rumblers” with their talking-points obsessive,
which they press in a manner oppressive, aggressive.

New Speaker same (or worse) than the old one. There is nothing positive in Ryan being the new Speaker.

An Elderly Progressive Reminisces
,,, ,,, {a rhyme) ,,, ,,,
I’ve been Progressive since my mid-teens youth,
when back then opponents were the Roaders Middle.
Now later in life, it turns out {Forsooth!!}
that we’re stymied by nitwits with brains a-twiddle
with nonsense, poor values and demeanors uncouth,
with notions which reek of the stank of horse piddle.
It USED to be EASIER on Progressives, in truth:
to be defeated by folks with a modicum of sense, -
- and not by Far Righters with heads so durn’ dense.
