No one younger than I am wants to believe me when I say that Ronald Reagan WRECKED California's economy when he was governor. He was terrible then, and even worse when he was President. Those who want to bow to the memory of him are smoking something (or just IGNORANT!) I've never been able to buy... stupidity.

Having watched the video, I think Sandra Bland was probably alive when she arrived at the police station, but it's disturbing that you can't hear her after a certain point, even though very late in the video you hear a cop tell her that she's under arrest and will be taken to a certain location. But a plan to fake her suicide at that point is too far fetched and would require too many co-conspirators.

So it seems the real mystery is what happened at the jail. Even if it was suicide, it would be because of whatever the police did to her. It obviously wasn't her plan to get a new job and move to a new town just to kill herself before her first day of work. When you consider that people have been convicted of getting others to kill themselves, this will turn out bad for this police department either way.

Trump can bloviate all he wants, even if it fractionally makes sense, to Fox news viewers that is.....doesn't matter, he still can't be trusted beyond the self-serving, egomaniac, ugly american that he is. Banksters have loaned him multi millions, BFD.....still doesn't make him qualified to lead anybody but his sorry self.

Senator Sanders on the other hand has a proven track record, can be trusted, and is anything but self- serving....we're lucky to have such a statesman constantly working for economic and social justice for all.

liz B -- Bernie wants public financing. That move would take several billion from the networks. Does MSNBC need any other reason?

  • Trump is Right On One Thing...It's the Trade Stupid!   9 years 48 weeks ago

Mathboy -- Maybe the only directive given to the Trump is do not pick on Walker. Since his head political advisor is from the Koch camp, it seems it would make sense.

Hope "The Donald" wins the Republican nomination.

Now imagine, the coronation of Hillary, since even self-proclaimed Progressives have given up (or will by Febrary 2016) before the Democrats have had a chance to their six debates. Who knows if Hillary will attend ALL six if not more, debates. Maybe she will skip out on them like she did the 2014 and 2015 Netroot Conferences. Why aren't those so-called Progressives pressuring her on her absence there, like they were on her vague position over the Trans-Pacific Partnership????

First it was MSNBC and now without shame or apologizing, the New York Times is in the tank and WANTS that coronation of Hillary Clinton. At least the New York Times seems to think they have excuses for being her "cheer-leader" since she was their Senator and currently lives there -- what ever happened to objective journalism and substance????

    What's MSNBC's b.s. excuse?

Quote 2950-10k:Better yet.....how about after the inevitable revolution the people's court sentence arrogant and out of control citizens like the Kochs and Walker to work 60 hours per week for minimum wage, and then on their day off require them to serve the donuts to homeless people.

And I thought I would rather see them go to the guiotine, but I like your idea better, though I would probably add a daily whipping with the Cat-O-Nine-Tails.

I guess we have further proof that there is no such thing as a free lunch - Free-Trade is costing us a lot...way too much.

  • Trump is Right On One Thing...It's the Trade Stupid!   9 years 48 weeks ago

Didn't like Trump last time around, but I like him this time. The Republican candidates are trying to demonize him by focusing on one questionable or off color remark he said, trying to disqualify all the other truths he brought up that they don't like hearing. Trump is like a political whistle blower and no one can touch him. It's funny to watch them try.

The same trade policies that displaced countless farmers and other workers from various professions in Mexico, Central, and South America forcing them to cross our borders to seek virtual slave labor employment in this country just to survive. Many Americans are facing this same problem but where do displaced American workers go when your country is at the top of the economic ladder on this continent ? Yet Trump joins with other Right Wingers in a call to close the borders thus slamming the door in our Southern Neighbor's faces ! Apparently many on the Right in this country are still in full denial of the depth that our reputation has sunk to on the world stage ! When you find yourself in a hole, the rational action would be to stop digging !

Hope Bernie and Trump make it to the finals.

Refresing to hear some honest talk rather than the

I'm paying attention to test Thom's hypothesis about Trump being there to set the election up for Walker. So far, I've heard Trump attack Perry, Graham and Bush, but no one else. However, he really only needs to attack those nominees above Walker in the polls for Thom to be right. Currently, only Trump himself and Bush are ahead, but Perry and Graham are so low that it doesn't make any sense for Trump to attack them even as a diversion. It would make more sense to hit Rubio and Paul, just in case they find a way to rise in the polls.

Mark, I'd bet it's based on the lie that most people on welfare are black, and therefore in an all-white country, there wouldn't be an "overburdensome" expenditure on the social safety net.

Thom was talking about the National Review story that absurdly called Bernie a Nazi. The technique used in the piece is an old racist cannard I have heard from American, reactionary racists, time and again, trying to dismiss socialism. The stated, explicit argument is that European socialism works in Europe because it is a "racially homogenous society". The implicit argument is, of course, that socialism can't work in the U.S. because "those colored people" here are so, by nature, incapable of civillized behaviour that we just HAVE TO keep a draconian capitalist order to "keep the savages at bay", as it were.

I'm surprised this post got so many comments, since it's a rerun from July 16th with minor editing.

As with the afore mentioned reversal of the Lochner decision, it will take yet another devastating economic depression to energize an apathetic population into taking substantive action, and a rapidly increasing number of independent economists and progressive advocates have issued warnings that foretell the reoccurrence of this catastrophic condition in the very near future ! Given the complete absence of a functioning main stream media and a reactionary Supreme Court like the one that blessed the Lochner legislation in the early years of the last century, can we really be surprised that we are facing yet another monumental economic collapse just eighty six years later. Capitalism has always been an unstable system of economy that requires, at the minimum, meaningful government regulation to check it's worst tendencies. Meaningful economic legislation can only exist in a Democracy with an involved and participatory citizenry, not the one we currently have with a full complement of apathetic spectators who have done virtually nothing to arrest the constant decline in their standard of living for years now !

I hope Bernie watches the first part of this show. He kinda lost his cool at that event last weekend. He could have charmed them like Bill Clinton would have. But instead he got angry and looked disgusted. It's very distrubing for a huge Bernie fan. He needs to come up with real policies, and not rhetoric, to address this very important issue. These police that abuse and in fact kill innocent people need to go to prison! We need laws at the federal level to stop this brutality. It's insane in this day and age that this is STILL happening all over this country.

I always learn something from you Thom! I think Scott Walker is about the scummiest of the scum. I actually, honestly think that if we cannot get Bernie on the ballot, I'm ready for the scum. Maybe if they dismantle everything...the American people will finally get up off their duffs, put down their remote controllers, and get into the streets! THAT is the ONLY thing the scum fear. Thanks for all you do, Thom!

BBC played the Bland stop tape which appeared to have been modified. Alteration of public records is a crime. So who did it and what was taken out? Where is the original? Where is the in-cell surveillance tape?

Thom, See how much of a difference there is when everyone is on the same Team? Much better than "The Rumble".

  • Rumble - Conservatives Feel The Bern   9 years 48 weeks ago

Thom, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You for finaly calling out the cocophoneous over-speaking of each other that goes on in the Rumble segment. I can't tell you how frustrating it is to want to watch your TruthSaying only to hear people trying to outshout each other and waste our Valuable Truth Time.

My hope is that you'll eventually give up this "debating society" rumble and replace it with more inspiring and exposing guests like Robert Reicch, Bill Moyers, John Perkins or the like. We already know what the ahemmm, "right" want and we also know how dysfunctional it is. We are beating a dead horse trying to be "fair and balanced" with people who think that only "winning" is important with "half-truths" and "half lies".

How about the Kochs open up a donut shop, and put Walker to work 60 hours per week at minimum wage with no benefits. Let's see where he stands on the Lochner case then. Better yet.....how about after the inevitable revolution the people's court sentence arrogant and out of control citizens like the Kochs and Walker to work 60 hours per week for minimum wage, and then on their day off require them to serve the donuts to homeless people.
