I will place this needle back on the broke record - If you want real choice, the citizen of the US must form independent democratic institutions to counter the absolute corruption of our limited representative government. Establish democratic principles through education, participation and practice then attack from the bottom up. The wealthy have the high ground, but we have the numbers to crush their fascist fantasies.

For the ultimate campaign finance reform, how about pushing for a constitutional amendment making it the law of the land that ONLY public funds can be used for the public vote? NO outside money allowed. With all funding coming from a small obligatory yearly tax chipped in by all citizens, each candidate would receive the same amount of money and free time on public radio/television, effectively leveling the playing field. In one fell swoop, that would take care of the problem of corrupting big money flowing into our election system.

  • The Post-Citizens United Era.   10 years 22 weeks ago

Citizens United was one of the worse decisions the Supreme Court ever made. It merely served to add an exclaimation point to the fact that we are no longer a democratic republic, but a de facto oligrarcy.

What we're seeing is the death rattles of White Supremacy Capitalism as the light at the end of the tunnel gets warmer and the Empire of EXTRACTIONS end becomes inevitable! They are loosing their minds because the old standards of power and connections are changing skin color and sensibilities that are questioning the benefits of the Status Quo!

Perhaps some of the rules used by California's redistricting commission could be combined with my own idea of how to make districting objective and, hopefully, fair.

    http://www.thomhartmann.com/users/mathboy/blog/2013/09/objective-redistricting-part-1-description

I'll have to look those rules up to see how much improvement I can make. Good thing it's Friday; I might actually have time for that this weekend.

This may seem somewhat off topic, but when one considers the systemic coordinated corruption of federal judiciary around the country and why no one is being held accountable for any real crime while at the same time cracking down on comparatively insignificant crime committed by the poor and people of color, the following makes a lot of sense. This is in keeping with many conversations I over heard while in high school and college, working for old monied elites who spoke to each other in front of me, assuming I was no more intelligent than a house fly. Yes, they do sit around and choose world leaders and make policy at their secret meetings...and the end game for any who are not in the richest .001% basically amounts to passive, if not active genocide. Below is a link to very well put together documentary by Francis R. Conolly. It names names, times and places and is worth the time. Short of going off grid, working locally to make our communities independent of our current geo-political-economic system, nothing that I can think of can be done. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1Qt6a-vaNM

Thom, It's easier to get cocoa powder to mix with a small amount of milk first, breaking up insulated clumps with a spoon, then stir in more milk after the cocoa is completely wettened. I have no idea about blueberry powder, as I've never heard of that.

Asking Netanyahu to testify to a Congressional committee would be one thing, but asking him to simply address the House, so that there's no chance to question him and ensure that his story is consistent with other known information, is just a way to let Israel lie its ass off to the whole House with no accountability.

  • Is John Boehner a Traitor?   10 years 22 weeks ago

I wouldn't get too excited just yet Thom, we have two more years of the GOP in majority control of Congress and there will likely be numerous future opportunities to snare them when they are driven to the edge of corruption by their unbounded runaway hubris !

Yeap that's correct the guidelines for choosing a power supply can be summarized in three major terms: fit, form, and function, these guidelines is very important about choosing power supply.

While it's laudable to highlight how slow our internet is a compared to other nations, it's also very important to know what you can do with that download speed. YouTube was blocked in South Korea for a long time, and sites that air Korean dramas with subtitles are similarly blocked, according to reports. Also, oddly, any online game providers that didn't shut down their servers during Korean night-time hours were also blocked. China has shut Google out of their country entirely. Germany and other European nations have restricted access to various sites, notably Britain's porn firewall. I'll take slower internet speed over being told what I can do with my internet connection. I have cable and good speed at good prices from my local power company. They've been so good to me -- I will never sign up with a giant corporation for internet or cable ever again.

  • Is John Boehner a Traitor?   10 years 22 weeks ago

At the end of Obama's speech, he shook hands with Biden and Boehner. I thought at the time, "it sure must be hard for the president to shake that pig's hand/hoof."

Natan-"Yahu"? "Yahoo." LOL! No wonder the Rethugs like him.

  • Is John Boehner a Traitor?   10 years 22 weeks ago

Boehner's been treasonous forever - they didn't call it "Taliban insurgency" for nothing. Newt Gingrich said, "Oh, that's just what the opposition does". Opposition is fine but it has to be a loyal opposition, i.e., it can keep its opposition but it has to keep no less a concern for the well being of the country. Just because it didn't win the election they are not exempt from that duty as Americans and - even more - as American statesmen and public servants.

Instead, of course, they completely dispensed with the well being of the United States and even willfully harmed her continuously for 6 years - most recently - for the sake of their political ambitions. They don't care at all about the well being of the United States, only about the small minority of a peerage they belong to.

Nor do they believe in democracy. There are no greater enemies to the Enlightenment principles this country was founded upon as they seek to reverse the American Revolution and reestablish a feudal order.

  • Is John Boehner a Traitor?   10 years 22 weeks ago

It would've been nice if somebody in congress had mustered the political courage to state what a grave threat Israel and United State is to world peace. Courage is rarely used as a descriptor for politician.

  • Is John Boehner a Traitor?   10 years 22 weeks ago

The grave threat is Israel stirring up trouble between The US and other middle eastern countries and Muslim factions. I don't like the idea of a Jewish country anyway because I believe in seperation of religion and government like our constitution calls for. When the UN was trying to figure out what to do with all of the displaced Jews after world war II we didn't want to help them by letting them in to the United States. The Un moved people out of their homes and off of their lands and put them on reservations called Gaza, The West Bank, and Golan Heights. What is right and just about that? Every since then the Jewish Israeli government has been chipping away at those reservations and ruling over the people there with an iron fist, wageing war and killing thousands of innocent civillians every several years and all they need to do to carry out this agenda is say they were provoked. Israel has no intention of ever making peace with the Palistinians or sharing the whole country with them although before the UN butted in it was largely the Palistinians country. Israeil's not going to be satisfied until they've killed or run off all of the Palistinians and have the whole country to themselves. Lets not forget Israeil once deliberately shot up and bombed a US ship, killing US servicemen to keep us from knowing what they were doing to the people of Gaza. Israeil is trying to do to the Palistinians what Hitler tried to do to the Jews. Why are we still friends with this country?

  • Does the United States need a single-payer healthcare system?   10 years 22 weeks ago

I think this is the BEST question you ever asked. Because Health Care is EVERYTHING (as CVS ads says )

Even Charles Krauthammer finally could not notice and he said " Democrats should have done Single Payer, it was Simpler ......

Everytime i go to this MARKET PLACE to choose ........it feels like TORTURE.....

WHAT A WASTE OF TIME !

(remember Time is money ..........so it is a double hit )

SINGLE PAYER IS A DREAM .........ONLY PEOPLE CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN BY DEMANDING IT

  • Is John Boehner a Traitor?   10 years 22 weeks ago

reagan, or people in his still to be admin, negotiated with terrorists to keep the hostages until after runnife was sworn in

Laws like Logan won't be used

Now, their conspiring, during the 1st swearing in, to ruin a president is far more egregious than inviting another war monger to congress

  • Is John Boehner a Traitor?   10 years 22 weeks ago

I agree with JohnBest. Simple and to the point. Although there are many accurate and astute comments.

  • Is John Boehner a Traitor?   10 years 22 weeks ago

By inviting a yet-to-be indicted war criminal to speak to both houses of Congress in March, John Boehner has set himself and Netanyahu up to the be the infamous objects of a MASSIVE anti-Israeli-government rally in Washington DC at that time!

  • Is John Boehner a Traitor?   10 years 22 weeks ago

Considering all the blatant rightwing Republican criminality, election fraud, bank fraud and lying the nation into "Shock And Awe", etc., that Obama turned his back on when he first took office, I wouldn't expect to see him pursue justice on anything as technical as this.

However, I say let the Republicans trot this murdering, sadistic, lying bastard out in front of the American people as one of their heroes to follow in the footsteps of other great Republican heros like George Zimmerman, Timothy McVeigh, Cliven Bundy, Vladimir Putin and so on. Let Netanyahu become identified with the party of corporate greed and corruption and let the Republicans become branded with the mark of the king of mideast apartheid and stealing of another countries sovereign territory.

Who has done more to discredit the validity and rational for the Israeli state than Netanyahu? By all means bring him in front of the American people, this leader of the country in the mideast that secretly possesses more nuclear weapons than every other country in the mideast put together. Let him lecture the American people about the danger of Iran possessing nuclear weapons. Irony is lost and completely over the head of any Republican.

By all means, let the American people know what Israel has become and what Republicans really are.

  • Is John Boehner a Traitor?   10 years 22 weeks ago

He's probably a traitor, but he'll never be convicted. The BEST that can be said of him is that he's an oaf whose oafishness is compounded by his drunkennss.

  • Is John Boehner a Traitor?   10 years 22 weeks ago

I doubt Boehner understands what a Dis this is to the Executive Branch, but that's not unusual when you look at how Conservatives have misinterpretted the Constitution and laws in general over the two plus centuries we have been a country.

Perhaps the DOJ should point some of the legalities out to him, and make some noise about suing him. I'm sure he'll understand that, after all, he's been threatening to sue the President from day one.
