    That is scary.

Palin, I understand anthrocentrism to be the projection of human thoughts or traits into non-human entities, which can be anything from an animal to what we call nature. If ya wanna play tug-of-war over this, then I'll explain my choice of semantics and the logic behind it.

My laptop dictionary calls it "anthropocentrism"; I didn't know about the "po". But it otherwise supports my initial understanding of the term: "regarding humankind as central or most important element of existence". As for the word you used, it simply states that anthropomorphism means "human characteristics"; there's no mention of how humans rank in importance against other life forms where that word is defined. Anyway what I said in that previous post (except for the "po" in "anthropocentric") is supported by my laptop dictionary, which is good enough for me, so I stand by my earlier point regarding terminology.

I don't have a problem with nature described in feminine terms. In our patriarchal society, as in all patriarchal societies and cultures, men take up more than their share of space. Despite this long-standing, entrenched status quo, there remain certain things which reflect more the feminine side and thus, can be referred to in feminine terms. So what the hell's wrong with that, Palin? I used to object to such gender-specific metaphor, dismissing it as "sexist", but I don't anymore. I'm not hung up on that shit because what is it harming(?). At any rate I say, phooey on that. Like everything female, Planet Earth and nature are the gateway to life. They are what make life possible. Therefore "Mother Earth" and "Mother Nature" work for me. - Aliceinwonderland

Marc, I hate to nitpick but you've misspelled your hero's last name. It's "Davie" not "Davies" without he "s'. - AIW

Quote Aliceinwonderland:Hey, I've got nothing against Marcus Aurelius. I don't know doodily-do about him anyway; prior to this thread, never knew he existed!

Aliceinwonderland ~ Aurelius was one cool and awesome historical figure. He was living proof that the bulb usually shines brightest just before it burns out. His feats were true and legendary. However, relatively speaking even Aurelius was only so great. It is one thing to send others into a glorious and victorious battle and quite another thing to lead the attack on that same battle.

To this date, my favorite historical figure is still Mayor John L. Davies. What he did was 'borderline' Supernatural. My greatest hope is that someday a movie will be made of his life so that it can be shared amongst many. Far too few know that he ever even existed. In these trying times one thing we need most is to be reminded of modern day heros who have proven by their action that the bigger they are the harder they fall.

Aliceinwonderland: Anthropomorphism, or personification, is attribution of human form or other characteristics to anything other than a human being. Examples include depicting deities with human form and ascribing human emotions or motives to forces of nature, such as hurricanes or earthquakes.--wikipedia

I can't find anthrocentric as you suggested but ...anthropocentric...which I already knew to mean that human beings are the central or most significant species on the planet (in the sense that they are considered to have a moral status or value higher than that of other animals), or the assessment of reality through an exclusively human perspective.--wikipedia

So, I believe I was correct in my usage of anthropomorphic. Nature is not human and the term "mother" is more relevant when referring to humans so when you refer to "mother nature" it is more anthropomorphic than anthropocentric.

Although the founding of this country was more of a man's role than a woman's..in numbers anyway..there were plenty of women there as well. They did the baking, and child rearing, and washing, and other home making things. None fought any wars of independence. None were in on the decision making and government processes. That is not to say that the women didn't have to sacrifice dearly...losing husbands in battle must have been pretty rough.Yes, there were a few that stood out in history but I don't think it is too much of a stretch to use the term "founding fathers"...although many may not have been fathers at all.

Saying "founding fathers" is pretty ridiculous at any rate...about as ridiculous as saying "The Fatherland" or the "Motherland"..or "Homeland Security". It's all propaganda terminology anyway.

P.S. One more point, Palin. Rich or poor, we still occupy the same decaying, dying empire, equivalent to a sinking ship. The negativity from that permeates even the not-so-poor segments. Ultimately we all go down together. In the end, being the last to perish might be the only advantage remaining for the privileged. - AIW

Alice hopfully with thoughts like this " But not all spiritual and emotional malaise is felt by the poor either." we can get those gentried folks to see some of Occupy's points.cheers

Drug use by the rich is prescibed by certain hollywood Dr.'s cocaine you name it. if their caught they pay a fine and go to Betty Ford .while por man stuck in for profit jails.Drug abuse should be handled as a medical problem, to add on that topic.

Palin I checked back about my coment please respect my beleifs lol I did not mean to imply you had not. Acharya has a little video it's called please respect my religion http://youtu.be/3Dy1Z8IEjIg that was where i was going with that.and iagree topics should very well be put to scrutiny.

Watched that mind control vid note the focus the vulcans like cheney and bush hammering terror. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.my point being now that the public is brain washed and waking up to that fact why can't Occuppy focus the economic Terror back in their faces I thought of a method (Debt interest imaging) to drive home the point, as those in power have done so often. lets get ahold of say Peter Joseph of Zeitgeist and inspire him to do a vid on the approach, technique .comments?thanks

You're right, Palin, not all drug abusers are poor. But not all spiritual and emotional malaise is felt by the poor either. And I'm talking about drug abuse, not drug use. Unlike many, I draw a distinction there. - AIW

    Fluffy's back! Hey Marc!!

    Thank you Palin! - AIW

P.S. By the way Palin, the word you want is "anthrocentric". And you suggest "Mother Nature" is "sexist"? No more sexist than the "Founding Fathers" or "Father Time", to cite two examples. As to the "anthrocentric" part, why anthrocentric?! Even brine shrimp have mothers. - AIW

Hey Loren Bliss, Marcus was the last of the 80 some odd year run of so called, "decent," Roman Emperors wlth Nerva kicking things off . I'm sure you've read Aurelius's Meditations. I've been over and over them....funny thing is, sometimes they depress me, sometimes they inspire. ....you probably won't see this?

Palindromedary ~ Interesting! The more I learn the more the elitists seem hell bent on igniting WWIII. Makes me wonder if it is the lizard brain at work; or, if there actually is a group of "lizard people" hell bent on the destruction of the human species. Nothing really makes sense unless you look for ridiculous explanations. Time to look for ridiculous solutions. Oh Great Flying Spaghetti Monster help us all.

DAnneMarc: I agree. You are absolutely correct! We just don't have a real Democracy... it's a sham. Both Republican and Democrat Parties are controlled by the covert government.

The overt government is the facade...the mask...that hides and obfuscates what really goes on. This fake democracy is what generates elusive hope and keeps people psychologically off-guard so that they will continue to act against their best interests. They keep us distracted by the ballot box..ie: politics...and sneak in what they want sub rosa.

Look at Obama...case in point. Just like Clinton, if the ruling powers (the covert government) had not already owned Obama before he was first elected, he would never have become President in the first place.

The Democrats are not our friends...they are even more deceitful than the Republicans who are very much more open about their representing the wealthy. There are a lot of very wealthy democrats who like to call themselves liberal or progressive...but they aren't...not really. They enjoy the same kind of brotherhood, and benefits economically (tax favoritism) with the ruling elite and benefit from it although they'd never admit it. Those are the kind of Machiavellian* people who run and control the Democrat party.
    ---
    * pretend they are your friends but stab them in the back
    ---
That's the kind of thing that lets them get away with things like sending chemical weapons (via Saudi Arabia) or, now, anti-aircraft missiles (via Saudi Arabia) and establishing a Al Qaeda terrorist base inside Syria. That's the kind of thing that lets our government call Al Qaeda terrorists sometimes and then freedom fighters the next.

Al Qaeda were freedom fighters when they were fighting the Russians in Afghanistan. The US supported them and sent them anti-aircraft missiles to fight the Russians.

They called them terrorists after 9/11. Then our government called them terrorists some more when Al Qaeda fought our illegal invasion and occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq (just like the Russian invasion and occupation of Afghanistan).

And also... in Bosnia, Kosovo, Libya***, and now Syria, they were and are freedom fighters again. Just wait until Al Qaeda does something that the US doesn't like, or even if they don't do anything against the US, they can still be played as terrorists once again should the US need another excuse to bomb someone.

"Al Qaeda...is a global militant Islamist and takfiri organization founded by Abdullah Yusuf Azzam and Osama bin Laden in Peshawar, Pakistan...It operates as a network comprising both a multinational, stateless army and a radical Sunni Muslim movement calling for global Jihad and a strict interpretation of sharia law."**** Although it is considered "stateless" it has members from Saudi Arabia and is largely funded by Saudi Arabia (along with the US). Is it no wonder that some people believe that US insiders, Neocons, used their Al Qaeda freedom fighters to help them create the false flag that was 9/11?

And that's where most of our money goes to stir up violence in their attempt to rule the world...just like Hitler once had hoped. Through Operation PaperClip, Nazism live on in the US.

I guess I shouldnt assume you have the same system as we have in Canada. Here if you can't provide for yourself the tax payers give you a living wage. Which is done through welfare or social assistance. . is it not that way down there?

Quote Wendalore:One woman here talked about mental health. And what IS "mental health?" Where does dysfunctional behavior come from?

Wendalore ~ We are a product of our environment. Every issue that you spoke of, drug abuse, mental illness, worker lethargy, crime, death of religion (the spirit), and depression are elements and phenomena that exist and prosper in certain types of environments and are directly proportional to the size of population per square foot and the type of economy. IE The bigger the population per square foot, the worse the problems. Industrial economies--as opposed to agricultural economies--and the creation of the nuclear family are the true cause of these issues. These issues were--and are--unheard of in rural, agricultural, extended family communities. An agricultural extended family is the product of a Gemeinschaft society. The industrial nuclear family is a product of a Gesellschaft society. If you google Gemeinschaft and Gesellschaft and look at the wikipedia definition you will see how social structure affects all the issues you ask about.

Turkey caught on-line in doing a false flag operation that would make it look like Syria attacked Turkey as an excuse to launch a war against Syria.

Also, the US is being accused by Russia of bullying UN members into isolating Russia.

And now the EU Foreign Policy Chief is condemning Ukraine's radical Right Sector group, the same group that overthrew the Ukrainian government to begin with.

    http://rt.com/bulletin-board/rtnews-march-29-1700msk-049/

And Obama is in Saudi Arabia where it is believed that it is for conspiring to have the Saudis give the Al Qaida terrorists in Syria some US anti-aircraft missiles.

BMetcalfe ~ I wouldn't be so quick to lay all this at the foot of the Republicans. It takes two to tango; and, most of this obstructionism works because Democrats let it work. That aid didn't get approved of and sent to the Ukraine soley with the approval of just one branch of government that is controlled by Republicans. Also, SNAP, unemployment, and veteran's aid could all be just as easily extended with an emergency Executive Order. All that we are seeing is a carefully crafted conspiracy agenda of both parties. The two party system is a myth and an illusion. It is the Corporate Deep State that is in charge; and, we are all in deep doo doo.
