  • Will the 171K jobs added in October help Obama on Tuesday?   12 years 31 weeks ago

    Will it help? Yes.

Will it be significant? Most likely, no.

The jobs report really is a talking point for politicians. Good is always good, just never good enough.

It is intuitively obvious to the most casual observer. If the rich get a tax cut they save a good portion of the money, especially in uncertain economic times, or when they wish to initiate a capital strike to bring down prices; either way the result is a decrease in the velocity of money and lack of stimulus to the economy. If you give money to the poor from whatever source the money is spent and thus increases the velocity of money stimulating the economy. The rich know this; if they only wanted more money they could best obtain greater riches in a healthy and expanding economy fueled by the growth of prosperous lower classes. As our corporatist state lurches toward it's transition into Empire the rich will spend less and less of what they regard as their money on panem and allow the 99% to provide our own circenses. Where are our Grachii?

"Low taxes on the rich did not spur economic growth." Did you hear that Ronald?

I wonder how much privatization and loss of of public sector jobs, spurs economic growth? How many more teachers do we lay off and how many more tax breaks do we give the Koch brothers before we admit cigarettes cause cancer?

In addition, I think an entire book has been written about how tax breaks for big business creates incentive to stash the windfall instead of reinvesting back into the company for tax write offs.

Let me see... The name of this entity is the 'Congressional Research Service'. so, I guess it's safe to guess that the reason for their existence is to provide a service, and that service, if I'm reasding this correctly, is research. I'm also guessing that, with the word, 'congressional' in their name, that they provide this service to the congress. Paid for by our taxzes, in theory, at least, they're beholden to the constituency of the congress, or the citizens of the United States of America. Sooo... they're given this research project. Doesn't the information gathered in the course of that research become property of the citizenry of the United States? Isn't an order by the few, to destroy this information, if not illegal, at least wrong? I don't think it's really a very hard question. Lock the bastards up! Unless I'm not allowed to use the word, 'bastards'. In which case, I'll say, "Lock the dingleheads up!"

Republicans and billionaries ignore facts at their own peril. Gravity does not depend on whether or not one believes in the its prinicples. Cancer does not leave your body because you refuse to accept the doctors diagnosis. Likewise, when an independent analysts tell Republican plutocrats that their economic plans do not hold water, it is wise to believe the analysts. This year's Republican's are acting very much like the Emperor who has no clothes. They only seem to care about their ideology and the facts be damned. Their comments in the presidential election that they would not allow their campaign to be "fact checked" is the height of hubris. I expect when all the dust has cleared and the votes are counted that Republicans will claim that the election was stolen from them because too many illegal aliens voted.

They remind me of my youth when sore losers in a pick up game would take their ball and go home if they could not win playing by the rules. Cheating has become such a part of their normal way of doing business that they have begun to believe the rules encourage them to resort to bad behavior. Empires are not defeated by external forces; instead empires decay because of internal corruption. The Republican Party is a corrupting infulence on the American system of government. I am happy to have a loyal opposition. However, I am not happy to have a crooked, corrupted opposition that spits and stomps on the United States Constitution. Republicans have gone too far in their partisian behavior. They have stepped over the line.

Reagan created 5.3 mil job in 1st 4 yrs, averaged 2 mil/yr thru presidency.
Obama has created 5.5 mil private sector jobs in last 2.75 yrs, avg of 2 mil/yr, 160,000+/month
Bush created total of 1 million jobs in 8 yrs, avg of 135,000 per YEAR. Remember Bush - He was last Repub governor to claim business experience.
    Eisenhower - 400,000/yr
    HW Bush - 700,000/yr
    Nixon/Ford - 1.4 mil/yr -
Only 2 Prezs created more than Obama - both Dems (Carter, Clinton). Reagan, Kennedy/Johnson same amount.
Dems better for jobs. Dems better for stock market. Market down nder 3 Presidents - Hoover, Nixon, Bush.

Whether its taxes, climate change, health care etc... It's all about controlling the peeps and the liberals got to have it because the common folk are just too weak and stupid to Run their own life. Must have bigger and bigger government. As the government gets bigger and regulations become so burdensome for small businesses the fertile atmosphere for cronyism will be the result. Soon everyone will be slaves to big government and big corporations.

It needs an electoral movement, able to encourage everyone to vote to not impose the oligarchies.

Since they are in their right, so the system allowed them.

Electoral processes are junctures of political freedom, only the average citizen has not been aware of it.

Electoral processes are opportunities for civil society exercising democracy in its broadest meaning, without reducing it to the single issue of a secret ballot, but publishing their demands through NGOs and social movements, conditioning to the candidates to give tangible proof of their commitment to fulfill this demands to vote for them, on the understanding that the essence of an electoral process will not be choice rulers, but the agreement to collaborate with them on the satisfaction of social demands.

As communicators you should use this perverse oligarchies pretension to also speculate and manipulate conditioning to political parties to submit in Congress before November 6 a legislative proposal like the following so that your audience vote for their candidates:

-Elected rulers and public officials are obliged to consensus their decisions and management of public resources with civil society through the free participation of voluntary, independent, autonomous and honorary citizens. So that actions and management of public funds of rulers and officials are subject to legal process (dismissal and criminal prosecution) if they fail to abide by any agreement or in consultation with civil society.

-Each officer or ruler may convene meetings of discussion and decision of agreements, or let a Consensus Act in his Office or web site, where each person who wants to participate will vote in favor or against the government plan and budget, subscribing with his name and any identifying information. So that everyone can be convinced that every action and spending that is running the Government had at least the support of 50% + 1 of the people affected.

    - In the case of governmental plans rejected by civil society, this will have to organize sessions to analyze and discuss, in person or via technology, and formulate alternative proposals through Agreed Minutes sent to officials and rulers, to consider these in the redesign that they will have to make of their plans.

The political party that dared to make this legislative proposal to Congress would win enough votes for a clear victory in the election.

But of course the Republicans would be less willing to take this democratic progress. Instead Obama from his position as president has all the facilities to convene Congress to develop the legislative proposal immediately.

In remote case and given their ability to lie, that Republicans do so before, Democrats could express their complete disposal and make arrangements to pass the amendment before November 6, winning the most votes.

Listening to Gov. Romney’s campaign speeches and the Republican Convention speeches, I am struck by how the issues he raised as the problems in America, the economy, American jobs going overseas all stem from greed. The unsound and risky activities to maximize profits done by the big banks and the Wall Street firms’ meltdowns were done for greed. Corporations moving factories and jobs overseas were done for greed.

As I took in what Gov. Romney was offering in the Republican Party platform I realized that his “answers” to the problems he raised, while coached in “for the people” words, are actually strategies for the wealthy few to make more money. He seems to be saying that the American dream is greed. Two examples are, a ‘small government” is code for doing away with protective regulations on industries so that the wealthy (job creators) may have more freedom to do anything they want, to the environment, industry safety standards, worker salaries, product safety and more. And second, keeping taxes low for corporations and the wealthy in order to continue the now obviously failed “trickle-down” theory of benefiting America is also just code for the wealthy few to continue to not pay their fair share of taxes. So in essence Gov. Romney’s platform [and the Republican platform] thinks greed is the problem, and his solution is to have more greed for the wealthy, wow!

one were to take the Super Pack monies and divide it into the number of rich that gave it, and came out with a percentage. Added this percent to their income tax, what percent of tax would the rich be paying? If it is required that they pay this amount of tax, it affects job creation. But they willingly give this same amount to their favorite politian. Which this super pac money doesn't help the economy. It only helps the TV and Radio stations which are owned by the pacs' givers. I guess this is called a "return investment" This is probably able to be written off by terming it as giving to a"non-profit" and later by "investment"

Last night, it was reported that the UAW is taking the GOP to court over the recent bold-faced lie concerning Jeep....Yahooooo! The lies are rampant, extreme, and hurtful to those that are incapable of sorting out truth from fiction. It's been part of our process - probably always - but, notably with Reagan - who was the 1st of the "New Right" presidents. What bothers me the most, is that the "New Right" took over the Republican Party and are such snakes that they can't come right out and tell the base who they really are. They aren't Republicans at all!!! Paul Weyrich's ideology is true and steadfast with these people and unless and until the American People call them by their true name - they will be allowed to continue the lies and deceit. How many people who call themselves Republicans would actually vote for the "New Right" if they knew their true agenda? In addition, the real effort of Stealing our Votes will happen successfully for the NewRight - AGAIN!! This time, they have removed by law, our means of catching it. Eliminating Exit Polls from 19 States and passing laws so we can no longer verify the counts will be our downfall. The Feds need to revise and make it a constitutional Right to Vote!! No more machines owned by the Romney's!! No more candidates that have Preferred Shares in Diebold, Hart, Scytl, Dominion or ESS machines. They are corruptible - easily - and word has gotten out too slow to stop it from happening again. How did Bush win? Election Fraud - BOTH times!! This has got to stop!!

The Pirates of the Caribbean are meeting now in the Canary Islands.

George Bush is a key speaker. Or, one of the Lords of the so called free market. So, Romney is not the only one who has an interest in the tax haven Canary Island so powerful attendance is mandatory.

This begs the question does the Bush family have Canary Island accounts?

When Jeb Bush claims that it’s time to stop blaming his brother for the screw ups in the economy because it was not only George’s fault. For me I agree, for it was the whole dam family all the back to Prescott Bush in defiant and in treason ways financing the Nazi party, too include back door deals with the richest Arab oil people America, the Bin Laden Wahhabi that want Americans wiped off the earth becuase we are infidels. This definitely is a culture algorithm that does not resonate with our Constitution. For America will never have a golden age, but it can if a complete confession to the public, and ask America for forgiveness in the criminal folly, greed, and profiteering thats been going on by this Bush administration.

Or, lets pull a CEO Welsh and raise the question; did Bush and, or Cheney have Canary Island accounts all along. Now the media, sputtering, must have to release suppressed facts for decades. America, now is preparing to indulge a prosecutorial media fire fight that has a huge concern of political and business citizens with secret accounts all over the world, with the Bush family economic ties to the Bin Laden family oil money. All those sounds have been canned for decades but hurricane sandy very well has fracture the secret system for the Caribbean Canary Island pirates of profiteering.

From my view Thom and Louise Hartmann, are very good patriots to expose what has been going on in the criminal politics of modern America. I salute you both and pray for you to continue the efforts to bring justice by encouraging the electorate to put those in offices that will serve and protect the Constitution and make it better for the future. God bless us all and hope Obama will win.

There's overwhelming support for more public disclosure (the DISCLOSE act or something like it). Depending on the exact question, roughly 80% of us are in favor of more disclosure.

That fact has to start being talked about all the time. And every time it's mentioned, it must be stressed that the roughly 80% number is true whether you're asking Republicans or Democrats, and so why are Republicans in congress blocking the DISCLOSE act? That has to just keep getting hammered and hammered. All the time. Over and over.

Few dare admit it, but Citizens United is only half the story.

The other half is the infinitely bitter truth we are cursed to live in Moron Nation -- to dwell amidst the most pridefully ignorant, venomously conformist, malevolently anti-intellectual, viciously bigoted citizenry in the industrial world.

Motivated by a toxic combination of Ayn Rand greed, Ku Klux racism and Christian fanaticism, white U.S. voters have a long and hideous history of economic, ecological and political suicide.

Like no other electorate on this sad planet, they can be depended upon to reliably vote against their own interests whenever some cabal of tyrants spends sufficient money to activate the fascist reflexes and lynch-mob instincts that are the defining characteristics of most U.S. Caucasians.

Historically, the only exception was the New Deal era, and that only because of a confluence of circumstances the Ruling Class will never allow to happen again. The Great Depression shattered Moron Nation's imbecilic faith in capitalism and opened the typically closed USian mind to (momentary) realization that without economic democracy, there is no democracy at all. At the same time, the Soviet Union in the person of the Comintern and the U.S. Communist Party was ready with a consciousness-raising apparatus sufficiently powerful to rouse a majority of white USians from their everyday trance of greedy self-obsession and thrust them into the (brief) enlightenment that gave birth to the New Deal.

Since then -- thanks mostly to the Big Lie propaganda techniques refined by Hitler and Goebbels and eagerly adopted by Madison Avenue -- Moron Nation has reverted to its true form. To those with eyes to see, the transition was apparent as early as 1948 (Taft-Hartley) and undeniable by 1968 (the Nixon presidency).

The Republican landslide I fear will fall upon us next Tuesday will be a death sentence for every lower-income elderly and disabled person in the United States, myself included. It will be the end of female freedom and equality as well.

But if that repugnant probability comes to pass, it will in fact be nothing more than the final chapter of a story that began with the Bankers Plot of 1934, when the grandfathers of today's USian Ruling Class took Hitler and Mussolini as their role models and tried to make the U.S. the fourth partner in the Berlin-Rome-Tokyo axis.

In this dismal context, all Citizens United did was ensure Moron Nation is forever -- that is, until capitalism's war against women and Nature reduces our species to extinction.

    The Twain Report
All The News That Mark Twain Says He Would Report If He Was Alive Today

Here is an October surprise that caught even the most jaded political pundits unawares. In fact, it even surprised Mark Twain, who by virtue of being dead and all, is pretty much omniscient: Bain Capital yesterday announced its aquisition of a 72% controlling share of the Victoria's Secret lingerie company.

In a press conference held in his office in a stall in the women's restroom at the Mormon Temple in Salt Lake City, Victoria's Secret's new CEO Moroni Faustimus said, "We have given this a lot of thought, and even conducted a poll of Mormon saints, and we believe that most of the Victoria's Secret client base will not really notice any difference in our product line. After all, with a little fancy stitchery with size ten cotton thread, and a half-inch sisal rope drawstring tied in a sheepshank knot, you can magically transform flour sacks and burlap into underwear that would be the envy of the Borgias."
