  • The Greek people are once again getting a raw deal   13 years 5 weeks ago

I wonder how long before the Greek people start a revolt. I also wonder which nation(s) will send in their police/military to quell it...?

The Greek's will revolt once the cuts start affecting their ever-decreasing income. They were fooled by lies; but, open those eyes and watch what they do.

  • The Greek people are once again getting a raw deal   13 years 5 weeks ago

Damn right they're getting a raw deal, just like the teabag austerity lie in this country.

Let the rich grab everything via Reaganomics and, "unregulated capitalism,"........then blame the resulting economic crash on the 99% for out of control entitlements and living beyond their means...... oh, I almost forgot, those overpaid union workers!

In my opinion, actually it's a simple fact these days, an increase in wages is a correction, redirecting wealth to those among us who both created and were entitled to it in the first place... go France!

Almost everyone I ask, have never heard of the Ryan budget plan let alone Paul Ryan. Thanks to shows like Meet The Press, the average citizen remains lost in a rightwing hell, destined to vote for David Gregory's best interests and against their own!

No coverage in Philly! .......should have invited a dozen teabaggers wearing tricorns and waving Ben Franklin designed, French and Indian war snake flags!

Thank goodness we have a few like Thom, Mike Papantonio, and Senator Sanders involved in the mass media and fighting like hell for all of us 99.9%ers!

  • Roll back the Reagan tax cuts, like they just did in France   13 years 5 weeks ago

Let's hope that the United States can learn a lesson from French economics! Hopefully President Hollande will prove to the world that austerity is not the only way to balance a budget. The wealthy in France seem to be more willing to spend money to improve their society. When will we return to that sense of "social contract?"

Thanks for continually pointing this out, Thom.

    Hello America,

I don't know way the people talke about G.W.Bush, and What G.W.Bush done to America ! 1) G.W.Bush sends jobs oversea & to China (2) from 2001 - 2008) (3) G.W.Bush lie to the America-Prople about the War ! and other things (4) the Republicans & G.W.Bush did not help all of the Womens & Mens who came back from the War ! (5) there are Women & Mens who live in parks, Streets, and G.W.Bush did not help or ddo any things to help them !

When Presient Obama came in there was NO-JOBS for the American-People ! that is the Truth the American-People have to open their eyes to see what the Republicans are doing to him I live in Heber Springs, Arkansas about 81 mile from Little Rock, Arkansas and 22 mile Weat of a twon, wish the KKK live. and do you know their names now ? they call them self the( New Republicans kkk ) and that is the "Truth"

Mitt Romney is going to be the next President in 2013 ! me I want Presdent Obama that why you have to open your eyes and help get Obama back in the White House in 2013 if you think about it Mitt Romney told the American-People that he did not know how much he (Mitt) has ! and that was a lie I tell you what Mitt REomney got his moneys and it was not geting Womens & Mens JOBS Mitt Romney took the Womens & Mens jobs away from them and sending the jobs "Oversea" & to "China" from (1998-2011)

than Mitt Romny told them if you want a job you have to full out for a job ! Why ? Some came back for $7.00 to 8.00 an hour and when the jobs went "Oversea & to China" the 1% saw how much they got $3.00 an hour ! that how the 1% made their mony

That what Mitt Romney is going to do if he get in

God Bless America & President Obama

Big concern! In fact we're creating this mess by producing so much CO2 in industries. I agree that it requires for our advanced living but we also have to aware of our environment and lately it's not supporting as our desired rate so we should take care of it for our own profit. As soon we can start it it'll give us the positive feedback. Hope for the best. Thanks for your apprehension. http://www.junocopywriting.com/

  • The Greek people are once again getting a raw deal   13 years 5 weeks ago

That's easy. Depending on the income and wealth of the top 1% it could be extremely unfair. You've just repeated one of the biggest misleading facts that the conservative echo chamber has been repeating for years now. Think about why it is they are paying such a high percentage of the total tax burden given their low percentage of the population even while their effective tax rate is lower than most taxpayers thanks to Bush giving himself a tax cut. IT'S BECAUSE THEY ARE TAKING HOME AN EVEN HIGHER PERCENTAGE OF THE TOTAL INCOME.

This one misleading fact is what is causing millions of people in this country to vote for republicans who just wind up making matters worse precisely becaue of this mindset that you have espoused. This one data point illustrates the disparity of wealth and income that exists in the USA yet conservatives have successful used it to make people feel sorry for the 1%, who are doing just fine.

It's a very sad situation. I'm sorry you have fallen for it yourself.

  • Will Republicans be successful in suppressing the vote with their new voter ID laws?   13 years 5 weeks ago

The GOP cannot buy our vote if we don't sell it to them, and the only way we'll truly lose is if we don't do everything we can to get people ID's if they don't have them and get out the vote. Volunteer to register voters. Go to you local office and call voters and get people to sign up to vote by mail because there's a much higher turnout that way. I think we will take the day and re-elect our President and am making sure I do all I can to get voters out and educate low information voters about what is going on and how important their vote will be. f I am wrong and we lose, I will never say to myself that I didn't do all I could to save my country from the Plutocrats. I am not a PollyAnna, I am 68 years old and was for years an "Eisenhower Republican" like my dad, who was a WWII and Korean War Veteran. I changed my registration when GWB took us into Iraq in a trumped up war as if he had no care for the fact that our veterans, who are our children, husbands, wives, sisters, brother, would die there for nothing. The Republican Party has gone over to the dark side and use money and lies and guile and other serpents tricks to get their way and buy their country and then sell us off to the highest bidder of their rich unfettered corporate buddies. My dad died in 2009 at 92 years old, but not before he had voted for President Obama in 2008 saying "I don't recognize the Republicans anymore...they're mean now". I don't intend to give up this fight. It's my country too...my dad fought hard to save it for me and I won't give it up easily.

  • The Greek people are once again getting a raw deal   13 years 5 weeks ago

The top 1% pay 38% of the taxes and the top 10% pay 70% can anyone please explain to me how that isn't a far share.

  • The Greek people are once again getting a raw deal   13 years 5 weeks ago

We depend on it, too, considering there will be blowback from any European economic meltdown. We are all now victims of Larry Summers economic libertarianism and the disastrous era of "financial innovation" along with the 700+ trillion dollar swaps market bubble that is running on empty, is stretched to maximum, is still without capital requirements, and is the means by which money has been extracted to the banking monopolies and into the 1/3 of all the world's money that is in tax havens -- the biggest heist of history.

And Fox News still thinks it's all Obama and big government to blame. They aren't just spreading ignorance, they're spreading foolhardiness. Our debt is only 15 trillion. JP Morgan under the thief Jamie Dimon (who owns the Senate), owns 55 trillion just in one type of extremely toxic derivative. That's over three times the U.S. debt. Please tell me why the Tea Party wants to hold American government hostage again this year over the "debt crisis." The right-wing I came from has gone totally nuts.

  • The Greek people are once again getting a raw deal   13 years 5 weeks ago

The ancient cradle of democracy -- Greece -- is being devastated by a combination of a foreign financial oligarchy and corrupt domestic politicians. With unemployment at 22.6% and rising, in the fifth year of what is now an out-and-out depression, the austerity recipe dictated for Greece by the ECB-EU-IMF 'Troika' includes massive layoffs, slashing unemployment insurance and the minimum wage, and the wholesale privatization sell-off of public systems and services to finance debt service.

But, while the new French government has begun to take the more progressive economic steps mentioned here, it too is constrained by the Eurozone's insane fixation on all nations meeting austerity-driven deficit targets.

Unless and until the people of Europe force a reversal of the deficit target core of economic and fiscal policy, there's little prospect for improvements even in France and throughout Europe. And without debt moratoria and a complete rejection of the austerity conditions being imposed on Greece, little prospect for the current or next generation of Greeks.

  • Will Republicans be successful in suppressing the vote with their new voter ID laws?   13 years 5 weeks ago

Not sure how to vote on this one. The choices seem limited. These suppression tactics can be circumvented.... do what we used to do back in the day to get folks out to vote. Get volunteers at the local party HQ to go through lists of voters in the area and make calls asking if anyone needs a ride to the ID place and help get them IDs, and if needed help get them to the polls on election day. A little effort could go a long way.

Vive la France...Vive la Resistance...Long live the Revolution! Vive la FRENCH Fries! Force the super-rich to pay their fair share of the taxes! But keep those politicians in check who want to build "Bridges to Nowhere".

  • Roll back the Reagan tax cuts, like they just did in France   13 years 5 weeks ago

And let's hear it for those fantastic Europeans for overwhelmingly turning down ACTA... the 3rd(?) attempt at destroying our on-line freedom and privacy by wealthy mobsters and crooked politicians bent on ripping us all off. The artists deserve a certain amount of protection...but those mobster corporations, the middle-men, don't. And it originated in the US, in secret, and thanks to Wikileaks we all found out just how horrible it would have been if this were made law.

Obama's "more open government" has been the most secretive, and conniving, and goes after whistle-blowers who report government and corporate wrongdoing.

Thank the almighty Flying Spaghetti Monster for his wisdom and beneficence for putting these evil men back into the box...for a little while longer. Praise FSM!

  • Roll back the Reagan tax cuts, like they just did in France   13 years 5 weeks ago

Right on, France! Setting a good example, as always, for the rest of the world. Remember the good old days that made Mr. Guillotine so revered. And if all those goons scurry away to Germany then maybe France could confiscate all their French property, bank accounts, and means of production. And maybe the rest of the world, like Germany or the US, would see how well it worked for France that it just had to be done here as well. Those slimy devils would have to migrate to Argentina or build their mansions in the Antarctica where they could lord their arrogance over the Penguins. Or maybe the Argentinians would just get sick of them and line them all up, firing squad fashion, and do the world a big favor. Tyrant pin-ball, anyone? Ping, ping, ping, bang, bang, chop, chop!

"Do you hear the people sing
Singing the song of angry men
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
    When tomorrow comes"--
--lyrics to "Do You Hear The People Sing?" from Les Miserables

I noticed a big greyish van at the light house, on Monday, that had an internet address on the side....trackandin.de
I looked it up on the internet and although the site is in German and had to do the Google translation....looks like it is a very adventurous group of young people who have driven that van many, many 10s of thousands of miles all across very rugged paths and roadways zig-zagging through South American towns and villages in the Andes, Peru, Argentina, Bolivia, Altiplano, and Tierra del Fuego and documenting it all with many thousands of photos..maps...and videos..advice...and a GPS route planner that they sell on CDs. Kind of pricey for me but for someone who could afford it, who might be interested in a great arm-chair adventure, or who might be interested in making such a trip themselves, it would we well worth it.

  • Pharmaceutical giant fraudulently puts Profits Over People   13 years 5 weeks ago

Love Santa Cruz!! Been going there for almost 30 years now. Was there just this last Monday. Love eating at Gildas on the pier and walking the dogs near the light house and occasionally visiting that Monarch Butterfly area.

Hope you win and keep Santa Cruz worth visiting. Funny thing, living so close, and yet I never heard of the desalination plant...not that I keep that much up to date on things. The news, other than what I get on alternative media, is so distressful and ridiculously dumb to watch or listen to. Such clap trap!

  • Will Republicans be successful in suppressing the vote with their new voter ID laws?   13 years 5 weeks ago

At 71, I seem to be the youngest of two others here, but old enough to know better then to buy into political lies. My eyes were opened last year when I discovered FSTV and then Thom's show and also by watching the idiots in action on C-Span. Unless the President gets more involved in investigating these voter suppression laws, the election is up for grabs by whoever is the best hacker.

  • Will Republicans be successful in suppressing the vote with their new voter ID laws?   13 years 5 weeks ago

I'm only 77 but feel that preventing people from voting in an election that is already fixed is over-kill. .Love sailing on the edge of realiity with no drugs or booze.

  • Will Republicans be successful in suppressing the vote with their new voter ID laws?   13 years 5 weeks ago

The comments I've seen so far lead this 81 year old veteran to say, "I guess the world/planet is flat afterall. Because a lot of people must have 'sailed off the edge to believe that liberals or progressives or democrats or whatever you want to call us, ever want to suppress anyone who wants to vote from being able to do so. Gee whiz, maybe i'm just 'an old geezer' who sailed off the edge too....

  • Roll back the Reagan tax cuts, like they just did in France   13 years 5 weeks ago

All the rich will take there money and run to the low tax countries. The French will go to Germany and the Americans will come to Canada. The Koch brothers already started with a half a billion dollar pilot project in Alberta Canada with just the mention of higher taxes. God bless America you are going to need it.
