  • Vermont will soon become the first state to ban Fracking   13 years 12 weeks ago

Thom, I have heard you say you do not have time to watch the corporate media talk shows on Sunday morning. However, I think you would love what our favorite choice for President, Eliot Spitzer, had to say this morning on ABC. Please watch the 20 minutes starting from 35 minutes past the hour. I think it was some of the most rewarding TV (other than your show) I have seen.

Bring forth the forces of the market place. I think we should quit subsidizing all the people in suburbia, since the true expense of gasoline should be $14 a gallon in the US. The additional $10 a gallon consists of two parts. The first part is for the DOD that protects the shipping lanes ($8 is generally the accepted number; the pentagon estimates it at $20-30 a gallon), and the second part is $2 for medical costs due to all asthma, cancer etc. We who do not drive (or drive less) are paying for that extra $10 via our taxes (for the DOD) and higher health insurance premiums.

Finally-Obama has done something admirably progressive!I'm not gay, but I don't care what any 2 consenting adults are doing in their own bedrooms-that's nobody else' business. The GOP claims that it is for monogamy and family values. Why do they oppose monogamous gay relationships or gay adoptions? This is hypocrisy! No one should have to hide in a sham marriage, the closet or live a lie.If you are opposed to gay marriage-fine-don't marry a man.

According to the documentary , "97% Owned", just 2.5% of our money is real. The other 97% is digital, much of it fictitious money based on the fantasy island of Manhattan economy, the ponzi, casino fraud economy.

The Future Will Be More Religious and Conservative Than You Think

    By Eric Kaufmann

That kinda prognosis was already to read decades ago. The author writes down what he's dreaming of, the result is his very personal wish list.

Conservatives need this stuff very much, in order to ease their depressions: The future will be conservative... the earth will be flat again, Constantinople Christian, and the Protestants kneel in front of the Pope -- Allelujah.

I watched an interview on CNBC yesterday that included former Governor of NY Spitzer. Also included were other bankers, etc. who all seemed to agree that more regulation was needed and/or that banks should be either broken up or investment banking should again be separate from depositor money. Also indicated that anything within banking that is covered by the FDIC should not be open to this type of investment gambling. I have been somewhat encourage by Republican leaning news, bankings, etc. who now seem to favor more regulation, not less. Maybe this is a wake up call that it's been business as usual and there is some concern that we'll experience a repeat of 2008. I hope this sentiment gets through to the House and they push through tougher regulations.

    Hi Jimfun71
I agree that the majority of people living outside of metropolitan areas would not function well w/out their vehicles. America certainly needs a better passanger rail system. In Europe people can (and do) travel all over by train. The problem here in the U.S...We politicize EVERYTHING and bills are ALWAYS earmarked with bueracratic bulls**t. WE the PEOPLE need to ENCOURAGE our State & Federal government to improve policy when it comes to Energy (solar, wind, bio, etc), Mass transit ( high speed and low speed passanger rails). As well we must ENFORCE strict regulations on oil drilling, and fracking...In other words if we can't perform the task without the potencial for enviromental disaster...then we are not yet technologically equiped. For that matter we need to scrub all future development of nuclear power plant
The MOST important esentials that man CANNOT exist w/out...CLEAN water, CLEAN air, CLEAN food.

In regards to fracking causing earthquakes...There are scientific theories that suggest its possible, however those who are "pro natural gas" disregard this.

It's time to change our selfish greedy wasteful ways.

Tom, first off I have read no credible research that leads me to believe that earthquakes of any real size can result from fraking. You are right about the seepage into water tables though. Theres a lot of coments about energy and oil on this blog which leads me to a short story why we are addicted to oil.

I have a coworker friend that lives in Chicago. He does not own a car. If he stays in the urban area hes fine. However, if he trys to leave, say to come to my house in suburbia theres no way he can do it. Think about it. Could you give up your car? I know theres no way possible I could continue my life the way it is without a car. Can you?

    Who cares.

The 99% is down to their last remaining hope for a fair and just American Society coming from a massive involuntary, and unfortunately very disruptive, redistribution of wealth. With any luck the power structure will also change in favor of the people.

Sadly, a “bad event” is probably something we’ll have to go through to get back to a democracy. Right now we are languishing in velvet fascism that is increasingly outright blatant fascism and we are getting ever closer to falling flat on our faces.

It’s like the only medical advice 10’s of million of Americans can afford when their sick: “barf, you might feel better!” In this case the barf is the 1%, ALEC, lack of campaign finance, and the political economic structure in general we have fallen into.

    Re. dinosaurs and methane.

The theory that the dinosaurs might have done themselves in because the produced a lot of methane which led to global warming; is probably a stretch. Swamps and other sources of decaying vegetation undoubtedly produced far more methane than the dinosaurs did.

Vermont is leading the way! Yay. We must be sure to write to President Obama often to tell him our views about fraking. I wrote to him to ask for help bringing clean-manufacturing to Longview, Wa and got a form letter, of-course, (since millions write to him each day). Our amazing President Obama has taken so very many good steps, including his latest promise to give all lovers the choice to marry, but this particular paragraph in his response letter in regards to his plans for meeting our energy needs is very alarming when our planet is so at risk. Does President Obama not understand the seriousness of climate change? Why is he enabling so much use of energy that increases carbon emissions? We need to send millions of letters to President Obama to tell him we want solar and wind power along with major conservation efforts, not fraking, coal, or more homegrown oil.

Here is the disturbing paragraph in the letter I received:

"We also need to reach for a new era in American energy, with an economy fueled by homegrown and alternative energy sources designed and produced by American workers. American oil production is now at its highest level in 8 years, and in 2011 we relied less on foreign oil than in any of the past 16 years. We have more working oil and gas rigs than the rest of the world combined, and we have opened up millions of new acres for oil and gas exploration where appropriate and safe. We implemented new safety standards and have since approved hundreds of new drilling permits. My Administration has also approved dozens of new pipelines to move oil around, including from Canada, which will help create jobs and encourage more energy production. We are taking every possible action to safely develop a massive, newly accessible supply of natural gas in the United States that will last nearly 100 years and, according to outside experts, will support more than 600,000 jobs by the end of the decade. As we work to create clean, renewable energy jobs, we are ensuring our all-of-the-above energy strategy does not put the health and safety of Americans at risk."

Residents of Highlands County, Florida ought to prepare for a big frack attack. Sebring once being the southernmost tip of the state as it emerged from the ocean, the majority of the mineral rights were put into a Trust owned by The Oklahoma Star Gas Company which becomes active in 2028. It was determined there is tremendous shelf oil where the state was underwater yet when it was discovered the technology did not exist to extract it.

    Corporate Citation:

300059988 OKLAHOMA STAR GAS COMPANY Agent: UNA LEE ROBERTS , OK (RA) Effective Date: 9/4/2028

Around 1919, Robert J. Brewton, president of the Oklahoma Star Refining Company, who bore also the distinguished title "Oil King of Florida," declared that Highlands County would one day be "The Oil Capital of Florida."

The many Leisure Villages of mobile homes which carpet the area stand on 99-yr. lease land owned by Lincoln National Corporation. The Lincoln owns the minerals.

The MASTER TRUST was filed in 1923 and can be found only in the archives of the Highlands County Courthouse, Sebring, Florida. Parking is free.
