I love this new socialist president...... By the way, "socialist" doesn't mean communist in this case. In France even the communists are pretty moderate. A socialist in France is comparable to a Social Democrat. Meanings are different in many nations, as "liberal" means something entirely different in other countries. So stop panicking righties : France isn't gonna go communist.
Well, the new socialist president Hollande said something about improving Europe, but I don't think he would want to do away with the Euro, or other achievements in the EU. This would be crazy.
I hope this new guy is going to come across as competent and charming as possible. This might help American voters to understand, progressives aren't a threat, even if they call themselves "socialist".
What will Obama do? Continue to act like the good little corporate sock puppet that he is while espousing liberal soundbites because it's election time.
How disappointing it is that so many Americans fear having their children exposed to homosexuality from media sources. Just as sad as those who fear having their kids exposed to any sexual content from media sources. That fear often is translated wrong by the children (or correctly but unhealthily) so it perpetuates this stigma. My wife and I have always been honest to our children about sexuality and from a young age we frankly answered their questions. My oldest is still per-pubescent, but I'm not seeing him have any hang-ups or embarrassment about it, he's very mature about the matter and isn't scared or confused. It seems that so many people are worried about warping children's minds by exposing them to facts, and I think that its quite the opposite. My wife and I also teach our kids that there is nothing wrong with homosexuality, yet my children are not showing signs of being so, people are who they are, and there is no reason to not to teach tolerance. Far too much ignorance and fear in this world.
Saying nothing but his personal belief, prior to the NC vote, and then announcing his support the day after the NC vote was the best way to use the circumstances for his own benefit. He will not only get much of his alienated base to take a second look at his accomplishments,he prevented the Republicans from claiming the vote was vote against Obama. We forget that he is a Chicago politician. That gives me great encouragement, considering the current non-position of the left. We need SMART tactics and I think we have the right leader with the right tactics for our current difficulties. PROGRESSIVE AMERICA THE TIME TO ARISE HAS ARRIVED. VOTE!
After reading the news about Obama and gay marriage just before leaving work, and your discussioon on KTNF now, as a straight man I donated $250 to Obama for America a little while ago in support. I encourage your other listeners to do the same!
It took me a while to post this because I just joined the room since you are now on live in Minneapolis...
Thank you so much for sharing the connection between sugar-leg pain- and apple cider vinegar yesterday. I was listening to the podcast today, as my leg was in pain. I immediately took some organic cider vinegar in water and within 30 minutes my leg ceased hurting. My leg has hurt intermittantly for the last 8 months, and I had no idea why.....
My podcast subscription for the last few years (while always worthwhile) was especially USEFUL today.
Obama is doing what he believes is correct. If he remains unwaivering in this, I can't see it hurting him. Yes it will give the Republicans something to rally around against him, but it also gives his Left base something to rally around too. I think it will bring more of the populace out to the polls... ask Jude Wannisky how that works for the right. Remember of all the money that is spent against the Left, its spent to keep people from showing up to the polls... well this is something people can show up for. I would like to see Romney flop on this issue, I just don't see that happening.
If a church wants to marry a gay couple and a state stops them from doing so (via a state constitutional amendement), why isn't that a violation of the 1st amendment (free exercise of religion). This is an attack on religious freedom!!!!!!!!!!
I couldn't get through the clogged telephone lines, but several people beat me to it. I believe the Republicans WILL use this to hurt Obama and it will hurt, However, hopefully, it will bring a number of young people back with some enthusiasm, this is what they have been waiting for!
I just hope that cynicism has not captured their votes
I am a Human American opposed to any war or any war related enterprise which enriches the bloody tyrants who are choking the life out of us and holding up the medical and technological progress of the entire world, unto its destruction.
Viotes are pretty close. I contend that much of our drinking water is already contaminated and it's done no good to fight back against these people. Seems that both Democrats and Republican politicians are for this fracking no matter how much the people protest. Unfortunately, there is not much news on our mainstream media so most people aren't even aware of it. I've brought it to the attention of people who were blissfully unaware that it was happening right around them and no one knows. We have to change how politics is funded and how politicians are voted in, after we get corporate money and influence out of our political system, and that's going to take longer then we may have at the current rate of corruption.
Thanks to Thom and Louise for these daily blog postings.
I appreciate the insight, and enjoy reading the postings plus all the comments!
I agree with followthemoney, above, about "wealth creators." It's all in the semantics and the positioning of key words in the corporate media's framing of the issues. The right wing thinktanks cleverly use PR tactics to misinform those who are so easily led down the path which is against their best interests.
Why do some citizens "get it" about the mis-use of PR tactics and others are prone to blindly following Faux News?
Many European and other countries around the globe are way ahead of the US on environmental issues. The US with an oil backed political agenda has proven again and again that human life is not a priority. Best example are the oil wars! They're willing to send people off in droves to die for oil in North Africa and middle east. I sincerely doubt they give a hoot about a few communities being poisoned by fracking. Fracking will likely continue until there's much tougher, can't-be-bought representation for the people in our government.
If common sense has any place in this country, then the people need to 'be informed' by the news...the real news, like Thom Hartman, seems to be the only place I can get the truth about what's going on, the real story! and not some fake entertainment news.
After the dirty bastards collapse the economy there will be no customers for their dirty fossil fuels. We The People will have to wake up and reinvent the concept of money and our economy. Instead of "time is money," we will operate on the concept of "time is life." We can’t and should not try to grow our way out of this crisis. We will be investing in clean water technologies rather than fracking at this point.
Regarding your observation about Congressman Spencer Bachus, Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, saying that "regulators are there to serve the banks," in February of this year the Washington Post ran an article about him being the subject of an insider-trading investigation (http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/rep-bachus-faces-insider-trading-investigation/2012/02/09/gIQA21Ui2Q_story.html). Naturally, we citizens would get a prison sentence for the same activity if proven true, but I think that Congressmen conveniently have immunity from such prosecutions.
well, this is really a nice post.I really like the way you start and conclude your thoughts. Thank you so much for this information. keep posting such good stuff.dissertation proposal

I love the idea of a solar driven house that is also tanking an e-car.

He will never get the votes of the religious right anyway, but it will help with those who actually think.

Thank you so much!!!!
The church that allows same sex marriage is United Church of Christ.
Thom,
Next time you have a caller use the straw man argument, "Well if two men can get married, then why can't a man marry a goat?"
The answer is, "Can a goat (of legal age) consent and agree to get married?" If the answer is, "No." then you can't get married to a goat.
Everyone involved in a marrage has to agree to it.

kudos for whom ever wrote the "No" response stem. It is right on the money.

There is an existing public/private organization called Infraguard that allows sharing of threat information with private industry.
