No matter what the Supreme Court says, the entire country is a "Free Speech Zone!"

The Constitution does not say that elections have to happen on Tuesdays. It says nothing about the timing.

It's such a burden to the taxpayers to let people vote. Civilized countries hold elections over several days, and restrict campaigns to a few months or less.

Ken Blackwell says that voting booths were allocated according to past voter turnout. But was there a dramatic increase in voter registration leading up to the 2004 election? If so, one can find fault with the allocation method.

Seton Motley is rude, disparaging and unable to discuss his viewpoints in a cogent manner. Rather than present arguments based on "debatable" facts he prefers to attack Thom for his "uninformed" presentation of his viewpoints. His technique of changing to focus of a discussion when his belief system is threatened seems to demonstrate his inability to focus. I find his style of lashing out to be juvenile and perhaps pathological. I wonder if he has ever listened to a recording of his "debate" style.
I wonder if he has any sense that his tone of voice becomes shrill and childish when he becomes excited. Does he think that this style is evidence of the veracity of his viewpoint and his passionate defense of his "truth." I am not a licensed psychologist (I am a licensed healthcare worker) believe that he would benefit from professional support to explore hat may be unmet needs. I find this behavior reminiscent of a period of time when my highly intelligent, preteen son became manic and emotionally unstable. When confronted with a challenge to his demands his focus was to overwhelm the discussion with his facts and to verbally assault the person who stood in his path for not understanding his world view. Overcoming his "adversary" by any means was his sole focus. This behavior cried out for and required professional intervention including family therapy. With support and intervention my "high needs" child grew beyond his dysfunctional crises. He now is a skilled debater who can present his arguments without feeling that "winning" a debate by any means is the sole way to avoid "failure."
I am saddened when I listened to Mr. Motley's argumentative style while wishing for a actual debate. Kudos to Thom for once again maintaining composure while his dysfunctional guest de compensated on the show.

Republicans should be trying to reduce Limbaugh's influence. I imagine they're tired of him controlling the entire party. They could either convince him to retire (with plenty of rabid righties ready to fill the vacuum) or counteract the media consolidation that allowed his oversized [*pun*] influence in the first place.

This is a great coup for Obama, and the Republicans gave it to him. The President can address any idiocies in the Republican debate and, because he'll be speaking right before a football game, many people will tune in that otherwise might not have, especially people in Wisconsin, Louisiana and Mississippi. (I'm presuming that Mississippians tend to be fans of the N.O. Saints, since the TN Titans are newer.)

Is Boehner an idiot? By one-upping the president and making him move his speech to the joint session of Congress to Thursday, Boehner deprived the GOP presidential candidates the role of rebuttal to the president - and of having the audience for their debate quadrupled.

  • Will you be watching President Obama on jobs before a joint congress instead of the Packers Thursday night?   13 years 51 weeks ago

    Hi Tom,

I think if you are a registered voter or you plan on voting in the next election and you need a job or you have a business that will be affected in anyway with President Obama's jobs plan you will be watching. In a time when so many quality of life issues are on the table I don't see how anyone would miss this iniitial first punch. The football players and owners worked their economics out and now they are getting paid, if you don't have a job you'd better see if there is any hope of you getting one in the future.

We are now officially in a new stoneage. The Republicans stone wall and Obama has become a Cave-man.

My Uncle Dan would buy an almanac every year, and compare the entries to see which were being revised, deleted, embellished. It was a good lesson for us from a high school dropout who was really a genius.

    Hello Thom

I think the poll should allow for both questions to be answered affirmatively.

The question in the poll is hard to answer for me since I will be watching yet, I don't think most Americans will be watching the President.

As you say,"we are Americans, we like our football". Take into consideration that this season was jeopardized for a while and-

it's The Saints v The Packers. That's a lot of BLING. Versus NO BLING ever out of this administration.

My guess is that the President will lose about 40 million people.

Mr. Obama still thinks that if he is nice that the other side will be too, if just for the sake of looking decent. He still has not figured out that the Republicans do not know what that is.

John Boener used it to show Eric Cantor who is Boss and The People who is Boss.

    BAD giveaway!

    There you have it.

    Tomas

    Rush's actual words

From Rush's transcript from his show yesterday:

"I don't care whatever, if they say Boehner's racist. I don't care whatever they say, you do not let this happen. This is intended to not only disrupt the Reagan library debate but to make Obama look bigger than Republicans and bigger plan politics, and they can't. The Republicans if they have any hope of winning the 2012 election, have got to put this guy in his place using this as their opportunity to do it. No doubt about it."

Re: the moving of the jobs speech:

Yesterday, Rush Limbaugh said that Boehner had to make Obama change his jobs speech or they would surely lose in 2012. Rush said he didn't care if it sounded racist or not, but Boehner needed to "put Obama in his place." White House spokesman said they already had approval from Boehner before they announced the date, but after Rush demanded that Obama be put in his place, Boehner threw a tantrum and forced Obama to change the date. Because they need to put our President "in his place." (I heard Rush's disgusting speech on Randi Rhodes's show.)

How does Rush get away with this? Why doesn't anyone make him ever apologize or at least point out what he said that spurred the GOP to force Obama to change the speech date?

The point that the wingnuts miss about WikiLeaks and other people who publicise the criminal acts in Iraq is that the Iraqi's already know what happened.

I'm really down because people think that it's important to keep information hidden; hidden from people who are responsible for choosing and monitoring our own government.

Not sure I am quoting this properly BUT when Albert Einstein said, " When you try the same thing over & over agin expecting a different result that is what is called insanity... The Tea Party along with the Tan man & his right wing henchman Eric won't pass ANYTHING Obama suggest now just as they have not passed anything since he became President....

It is sad to say but we made a mistake in electing him thinking it was a great thing for the nation to have an African American as President... Well the first part is true but sadly the bigets & rasists in our Country & in Congress at the end of the day have won again. Not one man who has ever held the office has faced what Obama has faced... Sadly we would have been better off as a Nation with Hillary rather then Obama.

Obama has given them everything they wanted PLUS he is the biggest fund raiser the right wing has ever had. Because of him the States have passed anti voting laws, anti union laws & the right wing has taken over State after State since his election.

David Abbot, you are correct sir! They are NOT good Christians just as the Muslim extremist who attacked us are NOT good Muslims. Funny how a few bad apples ruin the whole batch leaving a bad mark on all the good ones. PhilipHenderson, thank you for your reflection on slavery and equal rights. (love your photo too) Neither fight was done by those affected alone and yet we forget that every day. Unfortunately, the oppressed simply cannot fight for themselves alone and it was through compassion of both black and white, women and men, that changes were made and we (color and gender aside) should never have to fight alone. Again, the rotted fruit try to spoil the good and still leave a mark to this day. Divided we fail.
