President Obama will continue with is job proposal no matter what. As to wheather he will "Go Bold" how do we define bold? The racist republican obstructionism will continue no matter what, which by the way is nothing less than a blatent display of institutional racism at its highest level. Neither Boiner nor Canter had the confidence nor the intelligence to run for president, neither thought Obama would win and now that he is the US president, both Boiner and Canter are allowing their personal insecurity, incompetance and feelings of inadequacies to stand in the way of national progress, and destroy this country. The republicans, the Tea paryt, and their supporters are simply demonstrating openly and politically their deep seated resentment of a BLACK man governing our country. They made it clear that they wanted to jamm him (President Obama) up on the health care bill even before the proposal was presented, they gave George Bush credit for bringing Ben Laden to his demise when in fact he had nothing to do with it. If America doesn't wake up and re-elect President Obama in 2012, this country will be doomed. President Carter boldly stated it correctly...."IT IS RACISM".
(1) Our so-called leaders are in fact merely good actors playing out the scripts given to them by their bosses.
(2) The bosses control the machinery of both major parties and will only nominate those they control, ergo we never get changes in leadership, only new actors playing from the same scripts.
(3) The so-called "National Debt" consistes of two parts: (a) money in circulation and (b) money hoarded by the rich. Our standard of living is defined only by part (a), the money we receive and spend. The National Debt can be reduced only by reducing (a) and/or (b). Reducing (a) by cutting public services or raising taxes lowers our standard of living, not good - - - right now we need more money in circulation not less. Reducing (b) has little effect on anyone's standard of living but is opposed by the greedy rich as redistribution of wealth. I advocate laws which would force the money hoarders to either put their money in circulation or have it confiscated by the government and put back into circulation. Putting money in circulation means building things - - -employing people - - - restoring the infrastructure. I'm not advocating confiscating income of the wealthy, just make them quit sitting on the money waiting for (or causing) a depression so they can buy up everything.
(4) Bail outs - - giving money to the bankers - - just increases the debt and makes the problem worse - - - they hoard it (b).
(5) A major initiative of the wealthy is to reduce the cost of labor. They solved this problem at the low skilled end by flooding the country with immigrants and outsourcing manufacturing. Now they are trying to solve the high skill end by providing free education to the immigrants, thereby flooding the market with highly skilled workers willing to work for pennies.
(6) Re the theory that the rich need the middle class as a market for their products: The lord of the castle does not need to sell products to the serfs below - - he merely takes the goods and services they produce without paying for them.
I agree. I must also add that in all fairness, former VP Cheney did serve one very good purpose for the last administration. Everyone who detested Bush still had a vested interest in keeping him allive and healthy... Knowing that Cheney was waiting with baited breath in the wing to usurp control and send us cascading back into the dark ages. Choosing him as the VP candidate was probably the smartest and most sinister thing G.W. did from before he became president, right on up till he finaly left the place.
I sure hope so. Like to see him and Bush snatched up to stand trial for war crimes, if not here at the Hague. Holder is so lily-livered....
I'd like to see if you could live on what they (ss receipients) are getting. I bet it's alot less than your income even with a 50-60% decrease! How would you feel if you lost your job and all you got was social security?

I can't believe Cheney has the nerve to pimp his book. Why doesn't that rich spider crawl back into his well-heeled hole and stay until he dies? I guess he thinks he can boldly, proudly admit that he committed torture and thinks he'll be protected. He deserves no more protection than ANY REAL PERSON (NOT CORPORATION) citizen of the US.
The AG won't go after Cheney. Obama has let all of these guys off the hook. Even Nancy Pelosi said congress won't go after the Bush Admin for war crimes. If we truely are a nation of laws, then this should be automatic and we should at least have hearings on the Bush fiasco. This should include 9/11 failures, Katrina failures, economy failures, rigged voting results, supreme court irregularities and on and on and on. Sadly, Obama, and Congress are too chicken or have been paid off. I suspect both. Obama has dissapointed us all! He was suppose to be for the majority of us and is proving to be just another pawn for Wall Street and big multi-national corporations.
Enter the real world. As a salesman I have seen 50-60% decreases in my income. I think it is fair to say the only group that has not seen huge decreases are Government workers. If Social Security payments stay the same for the next five years it would still be ahead of the pay hits most of the real world workers have taken.
Mary Mary Beware nuclear energy does not contribute to this issue. Why poison the discussion with pro nuclear agenda. France is also having a lot of issues with low water levels due to man made climate change that is causing great concern on how to provide cooling systems for the many Nuclear Plants in operation. Danger danger young Will Robinson.

A difference between U.S. and France. Mass media here is corporate controlled the corporate sponsored cheerleaders are drowning out the voice of the people and outright refusing to discuss increasing taxes at all times. The other point is France educates its people and they learn a people's history while here we cook the books for our students.
How do we get out of the negative "entitlement" connotation? When we pay for something, we are entitled to it! I've seen people react as though being shot when some right winger sneers "entitlement"!

SSI, COLA And Win, Win, Win!
Since we folks on Social Security haven't received a COLA increase in a couple of years, doesn't it seem that providing this overdue increase now would be a multiple win. First, it would help the financially strapped seniors. Next, it would be another way to directly put cash back into the financial systems. Also, it would help Obama cement support from the important, voting elders in our society.
Thom, could you attempt to ask Bernie to start referring to the "Payroll Tax Holiday" as the "Social Security Insurance (SSI) Premium Holiday," which is more precise and would not be as automatically rejected by those poor lost souls on the Right. Framing/Meme, in this day and age, is CRITICAL! With that in mind, how about "... our Republican Faction" rather than "... our Republican Friends?"
And as the wealthy continue to squeeze us into the starving masses...its headed that way...and is now for many people...some will struggle to survive and this will be manifested by more "crimes" like bank robberies, muggings, fraud, etc. With many in law enforcement being laid off around the country (or laying off the experienced and hiring more noobs) I'm sure many "survivors" will resort to taking advantage of a weakened system. I read an article in the recent AARP magazine about how even old people are getting into the swindle and fraud acts. Seems a lot of people are more willing to trust their money with avuncular or grandfatherly(or grandmotherly) people in the investment business...especially if they manage to win their targets over with a sob story...or even a success story....like Bernie Maddoff who made people think they were going to beat the system and get something for nothing. But then with a government like ours who bails out the wealthy when they make wild bets on derivatives and such....why should people worry about risk? Our crooked system is geared to support the fraudsters....because our government is a fraud...bought off by pyramid and ponzi schemers.

Maybe the wealthy in France remember their history and are more afraid of the masses with guillotines. I guess wealthy Americans have to learn the hard way!
RE: Voting Machine
We all know the depth of mischief which protects the continued use of the machines, and also, how difficult it is to inform information challenged voters about them. I encourage every progressive talks show host to preface ABSOLUTELY every comment about elections -- past or future -- with the following:
"Although we don't know the actual results of the election because of the use of voting machines, those in charge of 'vote counting' seem to have selected ___."
hope he'll be bold and the house votes it down so the people know the riff rath we put in the house. Like Cantor and boner!!

The wealthy are scared. Unfortunately the phsyche of the U.S. is one of fear. The wealthy are just as afraid of losing everything as the rest of us. Afraid that their lives will not be as satisfying if they give up a small portion of their money. It is a sad reality that many people in the U.S. base their happiness, satisfaction and self worth on the amount of money they make and items they have. People in other countries tend to base happiness etc. on cultural experiences, personal relationships and the work they do. We need a better way to determine our Country's success than GDP or the stock market.

Peter DeFazio's Town Hall Meeting yesterday was awesome!
Hi Thom! My husband and I just moved to Albany OR from northern CA. Yesterday we attended Rep. Peter DeFazio's Town Hall meeting in Albany. It was his 13th Town Hall meeting this month and he had another one in Corvallis last night. Just excellent! The place was packed with people asking intelligent, well-informed questions. That, in itself, was refreshing! His opening statement was so current, including about the debt ceiling deal, which he voted against; his comments against the Super Congress committee of 12 and how many lobbyists have been hired to lobby those 12 people. Insane! Three of the things I found most interesting were: 1) he is FOR a balanced budget amendment with some decent rationale backed with data. Made me think about it again. 2) that the chasm between liberals and conservatives in the House can be tracked to a significant extent to how districts are re-districted in a partisan fashion using software that creates districts that are not competitive, going either mostly Republican or mostly Democratic; that this has made for approximately 70% of districts across America being non-competitive. He advocated for new ways of re-districting like that voted for in CA - a group of retired judges do the redistricting; 3) He is well-versed on the problem of big money in politics. I asked for his stand on a constitutional amendment to declare that corporations aren't people and money isn't speech (got that straight from listening to you!). His response was pragmatic in that he sees that as the long game. He let us know that he and Rep. Schrader are introducing a bill to allow Congress to make law countering what Citizens United has made legal. He spoke to so many issues that people asked about with great detail. He was honest when he wasn't well versed in some issues. What a breath of fresh air to be in a conversation of concerned citizens speaking to their representative who was so well read and well versed in so many important issues across the board! I'm stoked to live in a district represented by a congressman who actively introduces and advocates for legislation that matters to us! Yesterday was truly democracy in action!! Thom, I would love to hear a conversation between you and DeFazio about the balanced budget amendment, money in politics, anything else!
It's apparent that world wide economic equalization of the working class is in progress led by rapacious US Corps. That is, as our workforces' standard of living plumets those abroad like China, India, etc. are thriving. Does this not explain why US Corps are seeing increasing profits while the US working class findsincreasing unemployment?

Divorce rates in Bible Belt higher than in NYC
Divorce rates are higher in the Bible Belt than in liberal bastions like New York City. So says the U.S. Census Bureau, whose first-ever analysis found that marriages are more likely to make it in New York or New Jersey than in socially conservative states like Oklahoma, Georgia or Alabama.
"The reason is that young adults in the South and West tend to have less education and marry earlier, both of which lead to a higher risk of divorce," said Andrew Cherlin, a sociology professor at Johns Hopkins University.
