I say again republican politicans are SOCIAL DARWINISTS who believe that the government should help the rich live long and prosper. THE government should let the rich exploit the working class until they die from disease, hard work and exhaustion. AND the government should just let the poor die from starvation and disease because they will never amount to anything anyway and are a drain on the rich.

What would you do if your house was broken in to by armed psychopaths and you had the means to defend yourself. You have every reason to believe that those psychopaths are about to murder you or your loved ones? Would you just try to scare them by saying that you are going to vote Democrat and re-elect the pussy traitor that you voted for last time? These armed psychopaths have already broken into our homes and are surely going to murder and rob us with their "death panels" from the healthScare crime syndicates, corrupt banksters, and useful idiot politicians. Our country's politicians have wrapped themselves in the flag, orated lofty patriotic speeches and made up catchy slogans, or scaring the people into submission in order to psych the people into supporting invasions, and wholesale murder of innocent people, for what amounts to the many thousands of times greater than the drug crazed murderous home invader. If they are not overseas murdering people, they are slowly murdering them here though their greedy, selfish, and traitorous actions against their own fellow Americans. Just how obvious does it have to get before people can take no more and act in their own self defense? The US goes to war on many pretenses but one is most egregious...that they get something out of it...like oil...or strategic placement. If a crazed addict breaks into a house is he not thinking that he is "acting in his best interest"...that he needs the resources and he'll do anything, including kill, to get them? Like the addict...you will not make any difference by trying to talk to him...especially if he has a knife or gun stuck in your ribs. You fight back with whatever you can...because he is going to kill you and your loved ones.

I suspect that those traitorous bastards, you know who you are (and so does a lot of other people), will be having to spend a larger chunk of their ill-gotten gains on their own security forces just to keep the irate patriotic citizens from their throats. I wouldn't be surprised to start hearing news reports of some of these lecherous, frumious twerps being knocked off by people who are either terminal themselves (because of inability to pay the piper) or because they have broken down due to a loss of a loved one because of the same reason.

This is really disgusting of the Republicans...a new low...they are setting all records for disgusting!
The real first-responder terrorist was George Bush...if you can even consider him a first-responder...he was one of the first disgusting politicians to get into the scene for a publicity moment...pretending he was standing tall in the face of a terrorist attack...that is, of course, after he ran like a scared rabbit right after the attacks....but he had to make it look like we were really under attack by terrorists...but it was really a false flag operation that was planned and carried out, in part by ultra-right-wingers. The Arabs were patsies and the planes were electronically hijacked by the right wingers and remotely guided into the WTC buildings which had already been rigged with explosives. I don't credit Bush with having many brains and don't know how culpable he, personally, was with the attack. I think he was the useful idiot, just like many other Presidents and Congress People...especially now...Obama...of very criminal and powerful forces that pull the strings.

What's next? Our creditors and would be creditors act like anyone making loans. They will raise the interest rate for people who are a poor risk. AND the worst risk of all is the Republicon position that they won't pay (tax) for their last splurge - 2 foreighn wars, an economic colapse, and redistributing $10T to themselves from the US treasury.

Well, the first thing that needs to be done is to check Mr. Cliff Stearns credentials and be sure that he isn't the terrorist. I believe that 99.9% of Americans would have to agree that what the 911 first responders did was an act of true American patriotism and went way beyond the duty of their jobs. As for Mr. Cliff Stearn's suggestion to screen these heroes, it should bring an absolute outrage by every American citizen. Now that's what I call something fishy and unusual for the Department of Homeland Security to check out. ATTENTION WALMART SHOPPERS! you now have something to call in about.

  • Were you ever a communist?   14 years 12 weeks ago

I think we need to question the patriotism of these rotton Republicans we have in office. they are disgusting.

  • Were you ever a communist?   14 years 12 weeks ago

Frankly, I am beyond words for this. That does not happen often, but this is soooo far off what any reasonable person would expect that I just have no words. The current Republican party are just beyond belief. Despicable, reprehensible, just absolute pond scum. These people ran into that wreakage, risking life and limb, and now they are asked to go through this just to get the health care that they need??? I am an atheist, but all I can ask Cliff Sterns and the rest who allow this kind of thing is "what would Jesus do?" Not this, you A-holes!!

But, then again, you know that, you filthy, lying hypocrites! There is a reason why greed is one of the deadly sins.

    Right on! Making Progress!
Chris Hedges is correct...he is about the only one with sane ideas....

"Corporations let 50,000 people die last year because they could not pay them for proper medical care. They have killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and Afghanis, Palestinians and Pakistanis, and gleefully watched as the stock price of weapons contractors quadrupled. They have turned cancer into an epidemic in the coal fields of West Virginia where families breathe polluted air, drink poisoned water and watch the Appalachian Mountains blasted into a desolate wasteland while coal companies can make billions. And after looting the U.S. treasury these corporations demand, in the name of austerity, that we abolish food programs for children, heating assistance and medical care for our elderly, and good public education. They demand that we tolerate a permanent underclass that will leave one in six workers without jobs, that condemns tens of millions of Americans to poverty and tosses our mentally ill onto heating grates. Those without power, those whom these corporations deem to be ordinary, are cast aside like human refuse. It is what the god of the market demands.

Democrat or Republican. Liberal or conservative. It makes no difference. Barack Obama serves corporate interests as assiduously as did George W. Bush. And to place our faith in any party or established institution as a mechanism for reform is to be entranced by the celluloid shadows on the wall of Plato’s cave.

We must defy the cant of consumer culture and recover the primacy in our lives of mercy and justice.

The president has failed us. The Congress has failed us. The courts have failed us. The press has failed us. The universities have failed us. Our process of electoral democracy has failed us. There are no structures or institutions left that have not been contaminated or destroyed by corporations. And this means it is up to us. Civil disobedience, which will entail hardship and suffering, which will be long and difficult, which at its core means self-sacrifice, is the only mechanism left."

And what do we DO with thieves, rapists, murderers? I know what my ancestors did. Fought them, and not with words either. They tried that first, and it didn't work. We've tried with words for years now ,and they just keep plowing us under, like we were just the fertilizer of their selfishly sown crops of cash. What DO we do? Think hard. Think quickly. What did our ancestors do? Think! ACT!

Misleading Social Security info In the IRS 1040 instructions, (page 97 of the PDF on the IRS's website, I'm not sure if it's the same page# in the hard copy;) there is a pie chart showing Federal Income and Outlays. I've had a few right-wingers claim that the pie chart shows that Social Security is an entitlement program (as opposed to pay-as-you-go) and that it is a big part of the debt/deficit. I'm not sure if I'm viewing this correctly; but I think the chart is misleading at best, and is misinformation/disinfomation at worst. If my view is correct, I think this is something that merits further attention and correction/revision; maybe Thom or Bernie could take up the banner on this if warranted.

We love puppies . I inject a small but significant factor in your argument. British Petroleum has created thousands of jobs dealing with the toxic waste in the golf region. These jobs are being ignored. Nobody is doing them. British Petroleum is leaving it up to a underfunded EPA and a strapped federal budget under attack by the rich insurgents of our political arena. We need to as Americans push government to hold British Petroleum responsible for ongoing residual affects in the gulf. They need a couple of teams cleaning up constantly, until this stuff quits, ashore.
Every dog has his day. Let us make sure British Petroleum savers It.

This will hardly be a ripple in the pond or an echo never heard. It is one thing to offset domestic jobs and industry and move it offshore. This cry that goes out to rectify this with tariffs is foolish,,Feulish, we cannot single out one trading partner, or any trading partners with tariffs. Higher gas prices will do the trick. Some jobs and some commodities will not be worth shipping.
Comment on jobs with the offset between domestic and foreign investment 2.9 million jobs are a sizable wave that will leave behind consequences. Right here right now in the United States of America British Petroleum created jobs, the entire Gulf region needs to be monitored for residual oil deposits on or near shorelines and marshes. We need to give British Petroleum credit for creating these job openings, and we need to make sure they fill them.

we have so many great example of people that understood that all life in the universe is interconnected. With this awareness they dedicated their life in service for others. this is the way of the universail law. i look at the phylosophy of Ayn Rand as corrupt and evil. her phylosophy will destroy the person and the nation that follows it

Reading the Strategic Outsourcing Conference summery of the 2009 meeting is like being awakened from a deep sleep with a douse of ice cold water. It is clear from reading this that there is no intention of ever rebuilding the manufacturing base in this country, ever!!

The question I have about all of this is....with all the jobs being outsourced, who is going to be buying the products that are being produced in these outsouced plants/operations??? You can only have so many burger flipers and Wal-Mart greeters before this model begins to collapse on it's self...I can only guess that their plan is to suck the rest of the emerging world economy's dry as they have done here and then move on to the next phase....new worlds of distant star systems to destroy!

I think we need to start using the term "economic patriotism". Republicans love to wave the flag and get us into expensive wars which profit the big defense corporations. They turn a blind eye to economic traitors who are selling this country out to foreign interests, out-sourcing our jobs and getting us into debt to foreign countries!

We need to change the laws and get our tariffs back! We need to start calling out the economic traitors!

Thom, listening to your show yesterday and your interview with (whoever that was) about Ayn Rand and whether financial incentive was the most important motivating factor in life. What about always bringing up the Internet when "those people" get started. It was invented in the public sector and no one connected to it early on innovated thinking they were going to get rich. Sure, later that came. But Tim Berners Lee did not invent WWW thinking about becoming rich. The early comp sci people that invented ethernet, and created the internet were doing it for scientific advancement and public defense (in case of a nuclear attack). getting rich is not and never has been the prime driver in innovation.
