If there is an Economic depression in the near future, and China is the Leading economic force in the world, who would the super rich and the leading Fascist Corporations side with? America or China?

Thom should start a list of companies that have exported a high percentage of their jobs. The only way we can put such firms on notice there is a price to pay which is that we encourage everyone to boycott buying their products. I can think of no better way to get the message across.
Most of the GOP is just greedy, concerned about getting elected, unconcerned about the consequences of the laws they write, indifferent to the suffering they impose upon others less fortunate. They embody many of the traits we associate with "evil", but we have to be careful not to villify them the way they villify some minority group in this country (whether the villified be "progressives", "gays", or "immigrants"). The GOP are good followers, not leaders. They walk lock-step with the agenda pushed by their billionaire backers, parroting all they hear, mindlessly, without thought, without conscience. What we need are many leaders, many citizens, who will stand up against the new ruling elite, fealessly, courageously. We need to retire the GOP.

I doubt he is the moral authority who I'd be looking to for guidance. As for "Americans getting what they deserve" comment, I also doubt there is a correlation between our "American sins" and the calamities that are befallen us today. "God rains on the just and unjust alike"... divine retribution is not for us to know (if indeed there is such a thing at all). So please stop repeating the rants of the religious leaders who profit from our collective ignorance.

Please Thom, the words below made me cry when I read them & I implore you to find the audio and play it for us all in his own voice...So many of our greatest Leaders have been taken from us, and we MUST NOT let them win!!!!! Now that I know what the end game is all about with the debt ceiling, I am even more insensed. The higher interest rates that will appear, if we are held hostage over raising it, and we do not give in, will only put more money into the pockets of the banksters and the hedge fund managers. Fundamentalism is the root of all evil - any fundamentalism! When a fundamentalist believes something, it's their way or the highway.
And so anyone else who does not believe in the strict beliefs of a fundamentalist, they are "Other", someone who needs to be converted or destroyed or ignored.
This is what permeates the religious consciousness of most Americans today. And there are many fundamentalists and there are many hates. This type of mentality is ripe for exploitation from those who have a Machiavellian view of the world - and this is exactly what has been exploited by the neo-cons and the fascist corporate elites. Fear and Hate. And look where we are today. Half of America spewing out hate and rage against the other half. 90% are probably all Christian! They all have bibles and they all spew Christian values while simultaneously practicing the exact opposite!
I don’t need God to drive my ethics or morals. I don’t need the bible to tell me how to act toward my fellow man. I don’t God to teach me empathy. It’s in me already.
Religion is the root cause for most that is good in the world and also the root cause for most all that is evil. Nothing like fundamentalism can mobilize a people to create unimaginable atrocities and genocides, where one fundamentalist group wipes out another: A Million Armenian Christians by the Turks, 6-7 million Jews and Gypsies by the Nazis, 2-3 million Cambodians by the Kmer Rouge, Millions of witches, heretics and Protestants by the Catholic Church during the middle ages - on and on! All committed in the name of some fundamentalist god or belief or other. Millions and millions slaughtered because one fundamentalist group thought they were the one and only chosen ones and thought they had the right to annihilate the other.
And we all still live with this fundamentalist disease! The Christian against the Islamist. The white American against the Mexican and the Afro American. The Communist against the Capitalist. The rampant racism built into any fundamentalism is endemic in that fundamentalism. And no one is immune from it. The GROUP shapes ones view of the world, and when one group believes it is the one and only chosen one, every other group is logically of “The Other”, and therefore expendable and disposable.
The fundamentalist logic is concise: My belief is TRUE. If you believe otherwise, than you are not one of US. Until you become one of us, you are Other. Since you have beliefs that are completely opposite of ours, you must of necessity be against us because if it were otherwise my beliefs would not be true. So I must oppose your beliefs which threaten mine. Since our group is the chosen one, I have every right to oppose you, even if I have to destroy you if I have to. And since we are the chosen group, we have the moral right to so destroy you without any moral or ethical or moral repercussions.
That is how those who commit genocides on their fellow human beings justify their evils – they are the chosen ones and certainly their GOD finds it right in his eye that you who believe in him would logically follow his edicts and demands – thou shalt not worship any OTHER Gods but ME!
No, God is not the answer. Fundamentalism is not the answer. These are at most the engines that wreak havoc on the world. Any religion or belief works just fine, until “Another’ competes with it. Then all hells break lose. It is no accident that there is a separation of State and Church in our Constitution – we would as a Nation have disappeared long ago without it!
And now the evils of Fundamentalism are again banging on the doors of our Nation! Fundamentalism is again trying to insert itself into our government. Again fundamentalism is trying to eliminate the separation of state and church. And Fundamentalism is again rearing its ugly and hateful rhetoric against the other in this nation, any other!
I beg to differ on needing God. I beg to differ that He is the Answer. I beg to differ He will somehow solve all our problems! He IS the problem. And the problem we all have to solve as a people is how are we ALL going to solve that problem before it destroys us ALL!

voted for this. Nor were 2 million other Vietnam veterans.
We went into Irag because we are a stupid people! We still are! And we are still making the same stupid decisions!

The Beatitudes
I have shared with you SHALOM as an important part of moving our world to justice and peace. Here is another part that is important from Matthew 5:1-12. The Bible is God’s love letter to you and me. The Bible is not about a punishing and a vengeful God. The Bible is about love, mercy, and forgiveness.
You may or may not know that when I examine my conscience I go through the Ten Commandments and the Seven Capital Sins (pride, greed, gluttony, lust, sloth, envy, and anger). I will also go through the Beatitudes and give an example to examine in my conscience. Have I refused to follow Jesus’ Eleventh Commandment (love on another as I have loved you) and have I failed to practice the Golden Rule (do unto others as you would want them to do unto you)?
The Beatitudes
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Do I share my gifts, talents, time, and treasure to help build the kingdom of God here on earth?
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Do I, in turn, try to assist those who are suffering?
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Do I ever look down on others because they may not look or act like me?
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be fulfilled. When I see or hear stories of people suffering injustice, what is my response?
Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. When I am wronged, am I willing to forgive?
Blessed are the pure of heart, for they will see God. Do I respect the gift of my body, created in God’s image?
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Do I work for peace in my country and throughout the world?
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Am I willing to take a stand that is unpopular, but is based on gospel values?
Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven. Is my life on this earth focused on the life to come?
Hopefully, born again Christians may want to read the Bible more carefully.

Harsh but True Words
I have come down hard on the GOP as Satan’s disciples. I won’t give you a litany of reasons for them being Satan’s disciples. I will give you names and you must remember and study their policies and practices. Here are some names – Limbaugh, Bush, Cheney, Beck, O’Reilly, Hannity, Cantor McConnell, Boehner, Ryan, the Koch Brothers, Snyder, Walker, Scott, Kasich, the governors of Maine, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Arizona. There are many more names but why belabor naming all the fascist-Nazis in the United States of Mortal Sin. You know them by their actions, behaviors, and evil deeds and they are also rotten to the bone.
Our central banking system and asset exchanges are fundamentally corrupt. The tea-party and most americans simply and sincerely demand justice... or if you are an economist - a 'correction' in the markets - a really big correction. Wall street had a 2+ yr stay - no more can-kicking, no more bailouts and no QE3 - at least not in time for what's coming. Why? - mark my words, at best the debt ceiling will not be raised until the 11th hour - sometime in August. Remember, Americans have a long history of never bowing to extortion - like the latest threat of financial armageddon if 'we the people' have the audacity to challenge the 'too big too fail' system.. our economy will actually recover more quickly as a direct consequence of the calamity that follows and this great country will be stronger when the cancer is excised. There will be much work to do in the aftermath...wealth redistribution = job growth.
Honestly, does anybody in their right mind think this was going to just keep on going. Give me a break - the jig is up.

If any man lacks enough conscience to be able to commit a string of evils such as, throwing his neighbor out of work, create a off-shore tax haven, participate in foreign slave markets, self enrichment beyond all human scale, and then bragg about it , he deserves the title " sociopathic traitor". However in closed company I would not be so kind! This is the same personality that dresses up as an old lady in order to steal the last seat on a women and children only life-boat.
Thom, great blog, it's precisely the kind of fact filled information we all need to spread, even if it requires connecting the political dots for those who can not.
We always blame the GOP and the neocons for being greedy money cruppers but even worse many of them would also consider themselves Christians. I feel that it must be known that the majority of the Tea Baggers would probably call themselves Christians. When I talk with Christians they see absolutely nothing wrong with taking away medicare, social security, jobs and not paying their fair share in taxes. My question to them is "what would Jesus say and do? They then quote bible and verse evidence that Jesus came to let them do whatever they wanted as long as they can ask for forgiveness. Disgusting and disingenuous to say the least. I believe that progressive talk shows should point out more often the fact that these greedy and selfish people also dare to call themselves Christians.
A significant number of baby boomers are like docile sheep easily lead to slaughter. The complete opposite of their WWII depression era parents.
