Leaving Portland, Oregon is not an easy move because it seems to me that this area has much to offer families. With that said a move to D.C. makes sense. Thom, please guard against becoming one of the lunatics running our asylums in Washington, D.C.

The author, Andrew J. Bascevich, is a retired Army colonel and now a professor at Boston University. He calls it a “sacred trinity: an abiding conviction that the minimum essentials of international peace and order require the United States to maintain a global military presence, to configure its forces for global power projection, and to counter existing or anticipated threats by relying on a policy of global interventionism.”
The sacred trinity is a lot different than the Blessed Trinity.
We are now in a one hundred year war. I can see the conservative crazies rejoicing in the streets, beer gardens, and brothels of the United States.

Congressman Gary Peters
Gary Peters has been a great Congressman for his district and for his constituents. He has answered every question that has been asked of him. Mr. Peters has voted for every one of President Obama’s initiatives.
Thom had a caller who said that Mr. Peters was not for the people. The caller’s words are pure fabrication. The conservative crazies are calling Thom. They sound good but are deviating from the truth.
Congressman Gary Peters’ father was a teacher and a member of the teacher’s union. I believe that his father was a shop teacher and teaching skills to the students. Our country needs more shop teachers.

I was watching TCM and the movie, “The North Star” (1943), with Dana Andrews. Anne Baxter, and Farley Granger. The Germans bombed villages in the Ukraine.
War is obscene. It is for stupid people, started by stupid people. War creates more problems than it resolves problems. We have now stupid people worshipping Bush II and Obama who have killed and are killing God’s children. America will forever have an endless stream of stupid people to carry on our stupid wars. Wake up you warmongering Americans and come to realize that wars resolve nothing!
Enact Medicare for Kids NOW
As you read, the big insurance companies decided they are no longer going to write child-only policies. They need to save money, they say. It's unconscionable. How could anyone do this to kids? I can just see these fat cats sitting in their gentleman's clubs (or wherever) with big smug smiles on their faces because they just pulled one over on the Democrats. This after congress just handed them millions of new policies through the Health Care plan.
What an opportunity they just handed Democrats. Immediately, Democrats must get together and write emergency legislation to defeat their greed. Right now, an update to the Health Care Legislation MUST INCLUDE MEDICARE FOR KIDS. Any kid under the age of 19 can have his or her own federal insurance...just like their grandparents.
The advantage of this EMERGENCY LEGISLATION would be:
1) No kids falling through the cracks and dying because fat cat billionaires didn't want to lose what is lose change to them. Is this the Republican's form of a late term abortion? Just let the kids die?
2) It will help relieve the strapped state Medicaid programs.
3) It will give parents a choice. Those already in group plans will be able to reduce their premiums, some quite substantially, by paying into an already-proven federal program. Will it compete with insurance premiums? You bet. Let the SOBs cry with regret over their own greed. I mean come on now, drop kids from insurance? How evil are they?
4) One month before the election, Democrats can force Republicans into a piece of emergency legislation made necessary by the insurance companies themselves. According to the LA times, this will begin denying coverage NOW. http://www.latimes.com/health/la-fi-kids-health-insurance-20100921,0,799167.story.
I can't think of a better piece of Emergency Legislation that Medicare for Kids, but they have to act now.
Private insurance is a bottom line money making scam for management, stockholders , and legions of attorneys alike . It's to big too take down in a high unemployment, bankrupt environment and it's too crooked to get under control without a clear cut public option. Another can that gets kicked down toward the end of the road.
Dems definitely haven't told their story well on health care. And on other issues, they give credit to Republicans unnecessarily, when they could be blaming them.

@DRichards, I'm not sure what Obama's rationale was for keeping things "Unchanged", but it begs the question, what was "Change you can believe in" supposed to be? Frankly the reasons aren't all that important to me, the results of his inaction are far more problematic. If I were to hazard a guess as to one of his motivations to keep the attorneys where they are, it is not so much about what they would or not do, but if he brought in progressive minded attorneys, they might actually start going into the obvious crimes of the Bush Admin. Why exactly he wants to keep that under wraps I'm not sure, but he certainly has demonstrated that is his intent.
